Campaigns are week to month-long events that usually require a Campaign Pass to participate, offering missions or contracts that award players various items upon completion, such as weapons, cosmetic items, cases, or War Paints, as well as Blood Money that can be redeemed in-game for select items.
Campaigns were first added in the Gun Mettle Update and have returned in subsequent events.
History
The Gun Mettle Campaign was a three-month event that introduced skill-based contracts awarding one-of-a-kind weapon skins and exclusive weapons cases. Participation in the event required purchase of a premium Gun Mettle Campaign Pass, which rewarded a Gravel Gun Mettle Campaign Coin upon use. It introduced Contracts, Contract Points, objectives, and advanced objectives. Two Contracts dropped for every week of the Campaign, appearing in the player's Contracts drawer, which could hold up to two Contracts at a time. This Contracts drawer system was reused in some following Campaigns.
In the Tough Break Update, the Tough Break Campaign was added, requiring a Tough Break Campaign Pass to participate. Using the Campaign Pass rewarded a Tough Break Campaign Stamp.
In Scream Fortress 2015, Merasmissions were introduced, which worked similarly to the previous Contracts but with changes to reflect the Merasmus or Halloween theme. Completed Merasmissions awarded Halloween Cosmetic items. The event also implemented the Soul Gargoyle, a new tool that recorded the amount of Merasmissions completed, Halloween transmutes performed, and souls collected through completing map objectives or killing enemies. Merasmissions were reused in Scream Fortress 2016.
In 2017, the Jungle Inferno Update was released with its own premium Contract campaign also requiring a Campaign Pass, along with free Pyroland Contracts that awarded new weapons added in the update. A week after the opening of the Campaign, Scream Fortress 2017 commenced with Halloween Contracts, which were a new set of Contracts that again awarded Halloween Cosmetic items and were recorded as completed Merasmissions on Soul Gargoyles. All Contracts were accessed through the new ConTracker device introduced in this Campaign, replacing the previous Contracts drawer. The Campaign also introduced the Mercenary Park Gift Shop, as an additional reward system which used the new in-game currency Blood Money, as well as Friendly-Fire, a way for players to help each other with completing Contracts. Though the event has ended, players who purchased the Campaign Pass may continue to work on the Mercenary Park contracts and earn the rewards with no penalty; The Jungle Inferno Contracts Pass is available for those who did not purchase the Campaign Pass during the event (players can only use the Contracts Pass if they had not used the Campaign Pass). The Contracts Pass still awards the ConTracker to the player as if they had bought the Campaign Pass during the event. The Pyroland Contracts also remain active, while Halloween Contracts are active for most of each Halloween event.
