The only source I am aware of for the rumor mentioned in the article is personal experience. Both me and my friend (E rac and Agent Tallspice, respectively) were awarded the earbuds on the mentioned date, on the same computer. I shall endeavor to prove this in the near future, using yet another friend and the Backpack Examiner. E rac 20:31, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Yes, please do. (hoping there won't be a new "i can has earbuds?" thread here again, hehehe) WindPower 20:36, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
I have proof. Or rather, I will. The earbuds have just been acquired on the account of 'Major': http://www.tf2items.com/profiles/76561198023968483 Unfortunately, I made sure there was a log just before getting them, and the Examiner has yet to decide to update. It will, though, in time. EDIT The Backpack Examiner has updated, showing the Earbuds to have been gained between 15:43:36 and 16:18:12 on July first. E rac 21:12, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

This is Scout, "Offer Ends August 16th" makes me cry!

Was there any information on the TF2 Blog or a TF2 Update saying that the Earbuds' offer time extended? I am kinda unhappy about the fact I did not know that the time extended and I would of tryed to get the Earbuds. --Sinic 20:05, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

There was no announcement at all, it was a ninja update --Firestorm 20:11, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

I know you are busy with recent goings on

But does the Mining Light's glowing bulb count as a passive particle effect? All that is listed outside the Cheater's Lament is the Unusual series of hats. Actually, does the bub even glow at all? I see only one mention of it on the Wiki and no map is really dark enough to tell in no uncertain terms... --Zootch 05:35, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Tradeable Earbuds?

I heard a rumor that it is possible to trade earbuds, and i would VERY much enjoy having my own pair. Is it true that you can trade earbuds?

No need to ask, just look at the info box on the right of the page. You'll see that it says: "Tradable: Yes". Any item that can be traded will say so in that box. -- Alex2539 03:00, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
even though now that they are tradeable, why would anyone would want to trade them? They're too good to trade...--Awesome Weegee 00:37, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Reference to Apple commercials?

Isn't it more likely that it's like some of the hats not being affected by their lighting environment correctly? I'm not sure what the terminology for that was. -- En Ex (talk) 15:22, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Removing vintage Earbuds mention

I am removing the mention of the vintage Earbuds because:

  • It's a glitch that will be fixed.
  • Almost all the promotional items now have vintage versions.
  • There will be the temptation for people to note their movements between traders backpacks.

Feel free to discuss here the reasons for their inclusion. Moussekateer 16:30, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Well, first off Robin Walker himself has said that the glitch shall not be fixed in an email to the current owner. BUT, the current owner happens to be a friend of mine and has said that he does not wish for his information to be on the wiki. Consealed 00:45, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

The vintage Earbuds are still around and I feel should be included on the main page. Air-ick the editor 11:19, 24 July 2011 (PDT)

They shouldn't. It's a silly error, and they're not worth including on the page. I for one haven't seen Vintage Earbuds in a very long time, anyway. --SilverHammer 11:21, 24 July 2011 (PDT)
This is the TF2 Wiki, if a person is interested in finding information we should present it to them. http://optf2.com/item/329310370?pid=244820 here is one and another http://optf2.com/item/329310373?pid=244835 Erikerikerik 19:06, 24 July 2011 (PDT)
That's really not interesting nor trivia wise. Violencejr123(talk | contribs) 19:08, 24 July 2011 (PDT)
You know, I think you make a good point, Erikerikerik. This is valid information, and it should be present on the article in some form. It's not trivia, but it does deserve a mention somewhere, I think. Maybe a small subsection on the item quality page. What do you guys think? --SilverHammer 19:10, 24 July 2011 (PDT)
I don't know. They were only vintage because of a glitch. Violencejr123(talk | contribs) 19:11, 24 July 2011 (PDT)
"Users deleted their items on purpose and asked for them back from Steam Support, claiming it to be an accident. The items were returned in vintage quality." I guess that'd be it. It's small, it seems unimportant, but I think it should have a spot somewhere for the sake of having all information accessible to users who seek it. --SilverHammer 19:14, 24 July 2011 (PDT)

Thank you for seeing my point of view. However without being able to get inside the head of people who deleted and had them restored that quote is simple speculation. It could be purely accident, remember when you got a new item you could delete it right away without equipping it. Erikerikerik 20:33, 24 July 2011 (PDT)

Earbud Glow and Unusual Hats

It appears that certain unusual hats will cancel out the "glow in the dark" effects of the earbuds. My ghost effect hat, for example, seems to mask the glowing aspect of the buds. Any more information on this? Lacysophia 07:50, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

I've noticed that earbuds don't glow anymore and there's forums around that mention it as well -BLU Fancy Fedora.png Aom776 20:38, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Trading Currency

Even though it is not an official currency, many hold the value of the buds as a monetary currency in trade servers and sites. Should this be mentioned in the wiki?Roninsmastermix 14:53, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Hmm, I don't think that prices and or trading practises need to be mentionned on the wiki. It has nothing (or not much) to do with the game itself, that's just some... strange consequences.DSylom 13:00, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

All item prices are all subjective. Expect for Stout Shako, everyone knows that's worth 2 refined. Just a Gigolo 05:45, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

This might be part of a larger more grey area topic. But this wiki is lacking a comparable chart for trading. It might help people so they can make fair trades. Erikerikerik 14:32, 26 July 2011 (PDT)
Trading is very subjective. Just cause you could get something for a certain price, doesn't mean you will. We wouldn't want people blaming the wiki for invalid information, information which changes constantly. - 6vKcd.pngnixshadow (t|c) 14:35, 26 July 2011 (PDT)
Indeed, this is why it would be very touchy, but we could easily inform players that "vintage," items are harder to combine and therefor generally more sought after in the community. Or explain why "buds and bills," are highly traded items because of there limited numbers that will never go up. We can show what items on average trade for, but these are not set in stone trade values. And maybe this should be expanded to another topic? Erikerikerik 11:30, 27 July 2011 (PDT)
