Talk:Backburner
Firstly I'd like like to make it clear that the Backburner was in fact affected by the (now) 10% damage nerf to the flamethrower. The BB does 15% more than the current damage of flamethrower, not the pre-update damage; if it did that, it would be doing closer to 25% more than the current FT damage, which it isn't according to the numbers here. So compared to the old Backburner, it's actually doing only about 3.5% more (115% of 90%), not 15%.
Secondly, is there a way we can express this on the page? Right now it's kind of misleading by not mentioning the nerf, implying that the Backburner actually got a straight 15% damage buff. Jimbo Jambo 06:37, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
HIDDEN
Yes? No? Should HIDDEN stats be added to the weapon info boxes? --Firestorm 18:20, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- I'd say yes, especially when they're not obvious like this — Wind 18:30, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- I'd say no, because the box should mirror what is shown in game, however, it should be noted somewhere. -- Nineaxis 18:31, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- Well that's fair, but it's still a weapon attribute, so maybe it should be written below the box? — Wind 18:33, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- Perhaps a deep-red font to distinguish it --Firestorm 18:36, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- Isn't there the hidden-attributes property for that? Makes it appear as black. Definitely very discreet. -- Vi3trice (talk) 18:42, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- Holy Jesus on a moped, there is. Now i've just gotta edit the template so it's at the bottom instead of in the middle --Firestorm 18:45, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- Also, should I add the "HIDDEN:" in front of it again? --Firestorm 18:46, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- lol, that's embarrassing. And no, you shouldn't add it; if it were to be added, it should be added to the template, not the backburner page. — Wind 18:50, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- There, look good? I don't know why it's in the middle as opposed to the bottom though, it would look better there. --Firestorm 18:53, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- Fix'd — Wind 18:55, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- Probably because the hidden attribute could be either positive or negative, so it sits between them rather than being under the negatives. -- Vi3trice (talk) 18:59, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- I'm adding the hidden attribute again to the backburner; as far as I (and my items_game.txt) know, it still doesn't randomly crit - Mistah Phoenix 00:42, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
- Each one of the articles about weapons which don't roll for critical hits, but only crit when certain conditions are met (Frontier Justice, Ambassador, Diamondback, Market Gardener) all state, on the lead, that the weapon in question does not randomly crit. This seems to be the case for the Backburner, and so I agree it should be included. Adreadline 08:39, 26 September 2011 (PDT)

Trivia
Didn't they add a firing sound for it slightly after the release of the Pyro Update? I do remember that when it was released, the Backburner used the same sound as the Flame-thrower. -- Vi3trice (talk) 19:06, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- That's mentioned in "Related Patches" --Firestorm 19:09, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
Help
I think the backburner looks really cool, but I also think it's a crappy weapon, anybody know how I would go about making the standard FT or the Degreaser look like the backburner?? --Chaplin 00:33, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
- Try asking around on the forums, maybe on the community contribution section? There's a handy modelling tutorial there too. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 11:51, 26 September 2011 (PDT)
No info on it's skin being changed?
I was checking out the Pyro Update article, and I was looking at the Pyro Update promo image, and I noticed that the Backburner in the picture doesn't have eyes on it. Does anyone here know if the eyes were added after the weapon was added to the game, or was it done in an undocumented change as part of a later update? I feel like there should be some sort of trivia note about the eyes not being on the weapon in that promo image. 404: User Not Found (talk) 15:39, 25 December 2011 (PST)
- In game it's always had eyes, the promotional art is inaccurate. Now finding which patch made the backpack icon have eyes... that's something for a day when I'm very bored. Balladofwindfishes 19:31, 25 December 2011 (PST)
- I wouldn't necessarily say the promo art is inaccurate....maybe Valve modified the skin and removed the eyes to see if it looked better? 404: User Not Found (talk) 19:44, 25 December 2011 (PST)
- If I had to hazard a guess, it's a way to help distinguish the weapon from the flamethrower. They might have had the art all ready to go, but noticed the weapon didn't read well from a distance. Back in those days, Valve used to make the art of the weapon as the last thing they did, so it's understandable that there were probably last minute changes.
