Summary
TRAIN! A lucky catch of a rare antique TF2 GP38-2!
The commute to my work location in Seattle followed an old set of tracks. Some of it seemed unused, maybe all of it, so I didn't expect to see any train. But as I was driving away from my last day there, I saw this little old guy road switching a rather long string of railcars. I barely had the chance to shoot my phone over my left shoulder. I had assumed it was one of Union Pacific's once ubiquitous SD40-2s. It wasn't until I got home and could look up the locomotive's number that I realized it was actually a GP38-2.
There are only about 123 of these left in Union Pacific's fleet of over 8,000 locomotives. These are the oldest non-heritage locomotives that Uncle Pete uses in regular service. UP has scrapped over 500 of these in the last 8 years, so, it is a bit auspicious to stumble upon this antique as I was leaving on my last day in Valvelandia!
