Green areas around the image

Obviously, if you hover over the image so the background goes dark, you'll see the green tinting. I took this screenshot on my server whilst using a green screen map, with all graphical settings set to the max. I tried my damndest in photoshop to get the green out (and I de-saturized those two tubes because they went kind-of green), but this is the best I could do. If someone else here is great with photoshop and can get rid of the residual green tint around the edges, that'd be great. 404 User Not Found 22:57, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Why would you use a green screen map? That changes the reflective lighting of the model. Just use a map that is all white or all a shade of grey for easier cropping and transparency. TF2 crosshair.png Fendermcbender 23:00, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Well, you see, the green screen map I used had an open skybox roof with bright light coming in. As well, I was going to use a white map, but believe me, Photoshop's selection tool that I normally use to get rid of backgrounds, it would not have worked well at all.
Plus, as I said, I did this on my server. Gave a fellow admin the weapon, made the admin invisible, and took a screenshot, while having 17 other annoying people jumping around me. I managed to snag this good shoot after the admin who was modelling it for me slayed everyone. 404 User Not Found 23:16, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Few questions then.
  • What tool are you using for Photoshop and do you know of the "tolerance" setting?
  • Does Advanced Weaponiser download the model to any folder in your /steamapps? I've never played it so I have no idea.
  • I have a few other ideas but I'll see what you say to these. TF2 crosshair.png Fendermcbender 23:19, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
  • I'm using Photoshop CS5 Extended, and I used the method involving the color mixer. Turned the image monochrome, played around with the color settings and such until the stuff I wanted to get rid of was black, and the main image was white. I was following a video tutorial, located here. Why? Because when I tried just using the Quick Selection Tool, it was selecting things such as the handle on the backpack, that I didn't want to remove.
  • Yes, when you join Mecha's server, it makes you download all the models and materials. From there, I just uploaded them to my server, and using FlaminSarge's Give Weapon/Visible Weapons plugin(s) (as well as SDK Hooks and Patch for Player Attachments), gave them my own custom attributes because Mecha hasn't publicly released the Advanced Weaponiser or the scripts for the custom attributes he uses.
  • Nope, never heard of the tolerance setting. I'd like to learn about it though, if it'll help me get crisper images without the tinting and such. 404 User Not Found 23:25, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Oh goodness that's much too complex. I suppose it could work for the situation you were in, since it did turn out alright save for the green tints and edges. Anyway, your technique of making the guy invisible and what not is fine, but I seriously suggest just finding a white/solid color map. It makes things loads easier. If you have the original files I can try to work on them, no promises of when or if I'll be done. Also, the tolerance setting is basically a setting that takes a color once you set the value from 1 to 100 and it takes all the colors similar to that based on your value you see. Itm may only be in Illustrator though, I don't remember. I get my programs confused. TF2 crosshair.png Fendermcbender 23:41, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I'll try Googling "photoshop color tolerance", and see what I can find. As for the screenshot map, the one I used, I actually had to modify it. The guy who created it didn't put any cubemaps in at all, so the first screenshot I took of this item, it had the faint checkerboarding on it. I ended up using this BSP to VMF map converted to load it up in Hammer. Added cubemaps wherever necessary and this picture is the final, non-checkerboarded product. Thanks for the tips, Fender :D 404 User Not Found 00:25, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

New version has been uploaded.

Took a new screenshot of the Blizzard Builder using a completely white map. I was having trouble with the Quick Selection tool until I right-clicked its icon and saw the Magic Wand. So I set the tolerance to 1, and selected a white area....and tada! I think this new version came out much better than the old one. 404 User Not Found 02:14, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
