Your recent edit

Hi Deluxe,

Could you please move your recent discussion to our main discussion page? The Technical requests page is for software requests, like updating the website interface, not for suggestions on how to cover a specific piece of content. This discussion fits better on the main page.

Thanks! — Tark 04:58, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

I've moved it to here and given it a reply.

DeluxeFortress (talk) 18:06, 19 May 2024 (UTC) Yeah that’s my bad, just made an account yesterday and it’s like reading a college text book and trying to memorize it. Moving it to the correct page. Ty.

How do I come up with another way to say “Thank You X10”? Just noticed that with the Atoll Scout Edits I’ve been making and I probably wouldn’t have made use of the ‘ ‘ ‘Show preview’ ‘ ‘ button if you didn’t tell me. Dell (talk) 21:33, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
I have made use of the show preview button with the Human Sniper in the Atoll Strategy Page, thank you for showing me this. Dell (talk) 22:10, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
You may also be looking for Community Zombie Infection strategy. Map strategies should only really contain strategies applicable to that map specifically. Also, it seems like you use the wrong apostrophe for things, this is likely due to your keybord. Generally, the apostrophe used is ' not ‘ (they only really look different on the editing side of things, but not all fonts may show them the same).

The ‘’’ was probably because of a mistype, I’ll put all non map specific tips in general and the other maps soon. Dell (talk) 22:57, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Different English types on articles

Hi there,

Please don't change an article to be from British English to American English (or any other form of English). Both are accepted as long as it's consistent throughout the page, changing single words makes it inconsistent.
BLU Wiki Cap.png | s | GrampaSwood Praise the Sun! (talk) (contribs) 08:16, 20 May 2024 (UTC)

I’m so sorry, I don’t think I saw the British, just saw English and thought it was the regular English version. I’m going to read the translation pages real quick. Also note: I’m going to check map strategies for payload maps and control point maps because I want to see if the general tips are in the map specific pages. If they are, I’ll start a discussion to see if people agree to put general tips in the map specific pages for Zombie Infection (if they still apply of course).

Dell (talk) 19:47, 20 May 2024 (UTC)

The point of map strategy articles is to provide strategy specific to that map. Putting generic tips on there would just clog up every map strategy article with every generic tip. What you can do is, for example, say on an open map that rocket jumping can be very effective because of its openness. What you shouldn't do is put on every Sniper section "Be careful of Spies, make sure to watch your back".
As for the English thing, you changed "unfavourable" to "unfavorable", which is how it's spelled in American English while the page is British English.

Your quite literally my guide book (I mean this in a complimentary way,not offensive) right now. I’ll now watch out for British English and other Englishes. I saw the red underline and thought it was incorrect (it was in English, not British English). Question: Let’s say I learn German, am I allowed to edit the German version of pages to the current English one if the German one is missing a detail? Or do I have to have qualifications for editing different languages?

Dell (talk) 20:47, 20 May 2024 (UTC)

Hi there, Deluxe. If you were to become fluent in German, yes, you absolutely could translate parts of the English article that aren't present in the German article, no problem. It is welcomed. You must be fluent, or at least have a satsifactory understanding of German to make these changes, however. This is to ensure that German readers of the article do not become confused by what may seem like gibberish to them. Cheers — payn. Thank you Payn, I’ve a friend living in Germany, that’s why I asked. Also general question: do anyone remember if the HomeWrecker and/or Neon Annihilator could destroy the Zombie Infection Engineer’s EMP grenade? I didn’t use them to check at the time and I want full disclosure of if they can or can’t because I remember a strategy I used with the Neon on water maps. If you don’t know, I’ll move it to main discussion and see if anyone knows.
     Dell (talk) 00:43, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
Quick question, I do not see British English in the languages side bar in Atoll, do you possibly know how I even got there in the first place?
   Dell (talk) 01:37, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
To answer your first question, no, the Neon Annihilator nor the Homewrecker can destroy a Zombie Engineer's EMP grenade. To answer your second question, its not a language per se, more so just a way of writing English words. America writes stuff differently to Britain, so "synthesise" in Britain becomes "synthesize" in America. British English is generally what is used in the wiki, from what I can see, however you should look at the wiki article to determine whether it is being written in American or British English. Generally, with American, you'll see a lot more of the letter "z". Alternatively, simply use words that mean the same thing, but do not differ between American and British English, as recommended by the Style Guide. I appreciate how inquisitive you are, Dell, and I hope to see you become a valuable contributer with time. Cheers — payn. Ok so, learn a tad of,well, the British pronunciation of words and learn to check if they are written as such and write accordingly. The Homewrecker brings up another question however, should we list weapons that are direct downgrades and/or not recommended in certain Gamemodes? Zombie Infection has no opportunities for the Spy to use his Sapper, rendering the Homewrecker as a direct downgrade. The Manntreads are perfectly fine in Zombie Infection, but attempting to land on a Zombie’s head is risky. So should we list weapons that are/aren’t as viable as the rest?
     Dell (talk) 11:08, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
They are just different spellings, really. Some examples are "grey" being spelled "gray" in American English, "tyre" being "tire, "colour"/"favourite" being "color"/"favorite". It's just a matter of spelling.
BLU Wiki Cap.png | s | GrampaSwood Praise the Sun! (talk) (contribs) 11:20, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
Alright, sorry I haven’t responded in a while. I have a translator website I found to see if certain words/sentences should be spelled different just in case I misspell certain words that aren’t as obvious. But the question I asked earlier still holds: should certain weapons that aren’t recommended or a direct downgrade for certain game modes be listed* on the strategy page? As Sappers cannot be sure placed on buildings because the Spy on both teams can’t use them (BLU Engineer can’t place buildings and the BLU Spy doesn’t have it)?

Dell (talk) 17:39, 24 May 2024 (UTC) (The * was made because the sentence didn’t make sense, Dell (talk) 17:40, 24 May 2024 (UTC))

I would recommend against using a translator it, it was just a small note that changing minor spelling in a word (e.g. "colour" to "color") it might be worth looking up first if it's the right spelling. As for the strategy page, it is okay to list if something is entirely useless, but only if something is entirely useless. For example, a weak weapon like the Vita-Saw should not be written down on the Medic strategy page as "This weapon is very underpowered, it is best to stick to the other options". Instead, list the situations the Vita-Saw might be useful in e.g. "If you find yourself often dying in close range to enemies, consider equipping this weapon to get a final hit in and preserve some of your ÜberCharge".
BLU Wiki Cap.png | s | GrampaSwood Praise the Sun! (talk) (contribs) 21:31, 24 May 2024 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Couldn’t figure out the “Outdent” mechanism as of now, sorry. So from what I understand,

  1. You can list a weapon that is entirely useless (The Sapper and Red Tape Recorder decision doesn’t matter anymore because of this).
  2. You don’t list weapons that are underpowered.
I’ve reread your response and I think a miscommunication happened, I meant weapons that would be direct downgrades in different Gamemodes.
  1. The Homewrecker is a case of Weapon that would be a direct downgrade in Zombie Infection as the Pyro deals less damage to players and cannot deal damage to buildings as the Engineer on the Zombie team can’t build and the Spy can’t use his Sapper).
  2. The Vita-Saw is a direct downgrade in Zombie Infection because you don’t respawn on the RED team when you die along with no longer having your Medi Gun to make use of it.
  3. The Pain Train has a double capture bonus for Control Points, but in Capture the Flag your just left with damage invulnerability.

All of these weapons have an upside that only work in certain Gamemodes and become direct downgrades in others (usually 25% firing speed, as the majority of these weapons are Melees as I’ve seen), the example you made for the Vita-Saw is an upside for a gamemode where it would work, which unironically brings me to my point, because in Zombie Infection the upside or any added use from that weapon is gone and the downsides are still there. Basically, I meant weapons that are direct downgrades in certain Gamemodes and listing those weapons in the gamemode’s strategy page rather then poor weapons that at least have an upside. Dell (talk) 20:26, 25 May 2024 (UTC)

I understood what you meant, don't worry. I was giving an example as to how some weapons may seem "useless" because they're entirely outclassed by another weapon (e.g. not recommending to use the Fire Axe because the Third Degree exists).
