Several different versions of items may be found in Team Fortress 2. Some may be rarer than others; Normal quality items are generally very common, while Vintage, Genuine, and Unusual quality items may be much rarer and difficult to get. Some vintage weapons for classes Scout, Pyro, Heavy, Medic, Sniper and Spy can also have random levels (0-100). All weapons used to have random levels, like some hats do now. They also used to effect damage; level 100 the highest damage, and level 0 the lowest. Collectors like to get a collection of certain levels: 0, 1, 42, 69, 99, 100, etc. These items are extremely rare and are worth a lot to collectors.

Currently, aside from the above hats, only the Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker and Haunted Metal Scrap can have Unusual quality. Unlike the Unusual hats, the Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker has no particle effects, making it no different than a Normal weapon.

* Due to a glitch with Valve Support, some Unique quality promotional items that have been restored have been given Vintage quality.

* It is possible to accumulate kills on the Strange Wrench or Strange Jag by killing yourself with the Wrangler.
