The YouTube videos shouldn't be made unlisted, in keeping with past tradition, the circular circlesaw is still public but can be clearly denoted as april fools with a pinned comment Naleksuh (talk) 18:23, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Unlike the Circular Circlesaw, which is actually depicted as an actual demonstration, the Dustbowl Default can clearly be told off as a joke alone. I've see that a demonstration is already in the channel, Dustbowl Default, private (I didn't know the existence of this until a few days ago. However, I made a demonstration video for a well known... class?. I have already the thumbnail and I will prepare the page in a sandbox. Also, I've seen that a you guys would prefer a «kinda serious» video.

Final preperations

Okay, so per the previous discussion pranks are due to go live at March 31st @ 11am Pacific time, in order to ensure it's always April 1st for all timesones. That's in exactly 18 hours and 6 minutes from this message. In addition, several things such as the Lab Rats Dab were cut due to lack of ability to make good pages. If you see any of this, please remove it. The YouTube video for the Dustbowl Default is on YouTube's scheduled upload, and is private right now, but will become Public at the time above. This is the same time that all pages should be moved. However, we will need an admin to replace the main page with User:Zeklyn/aprilfools2020. Hello!

After some consideration, we have decided to postpone the event until next year (2021).

We're really rushing this one and we barely have anything to show off. We feel that if we're just going to deliver a subpar/sloppy prank, we'll better be off stay : quiet. Content for this year will be preserved and we'll be using it for the next year's prank.

Yeah i'm simultaneously upset but also glad because a lot of the stuff that was cut, this is a redemption as we have the entire year to get stuff that's better. However, the youtube upload is still currently scheduled, as I have no way to turn that off. Only thedop has the access and he is offline. However, the one problem may be the joke about COVID-19, which could be not relevant in a year from now. Perhaps it could be a good idea to either tweet out "Due to COVID-19, all Casual matches have been suspended until April 15th, 2020.", or to simply trash the whole thing entirely. • At what time will these pranks go live? Should they cater to people in all timezones or just washington time? The first meaning that it may start at 2pm on March 31st for people in the US, and the second meaning that there could be no pranks when its april first in other countrie's time. I don't know what our policy is on things like this, but I think common sense tells to apply it to all timezones - go live as soon as it's April 1st somewhere, and stay live for as long as April 1st still lasts somewhere. Thing is the timezones can span by a while. According to my calculations, in order to ensure it's up for the entirety of April 1st in every timezone, we would need to put it up at 3am on march 31st, then take it down at 4am on april 2nd, which is a span of two entire days total. But I don't see that as a huge problem. We could also save a bit of time by guaranteeing it up at 8am instead of Midnight, meaning it would be put up at 11am march 31st washington time. I'll save the details for later on, but right now it's just to worry about and make sure everything is ready on the 31st to go live then (washington time). Naleksuh (talk) 21:31, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

My friend on Steam suggested to do Eastern Time, then he added that it should be on "March 31st @ midnight Washington time" (Washington time = EDT). I think we should keep at least April 2, 2020 @ midnight Washington time. - ▪ - 20:38, 27 March 2020 (UTC)

No, when I say washington time I'm referring to the time in Valve HQ, where all dates on this wiki are measured from. That's pacific time, three hours behind eastern time. March 31st at midnight would be about three hours before it's april 1st anywhere on earth, unless you meant March 31st at 11:59.

Translation work

• If we are going to make translation pages as well, that means we have to create another sub page in the user pages. Is this all right?
• What's the best time to create the translation pages, will there be any deadline?
• Chinese Mainland people cannnot visit Youtube without a VPN, so maybe we can upload same videos in Bilibili (a popular Chinese video webite) and link to them in the Chinese pages?

In Jungle Inferno they added some explanation, patch notes can just be general gameplay changes and don't have to be "added 10% extra damage to Iron Bomber".

I'm talking about stuff like instead of "Due to an increase in reports that matches don't last long enough on maps like 2Fort and Hightower, we put invisible walls in the middle of the map to make it impossible to do the objectives." it would be something like "Added invisible walls to prevent pushing the payload in Hightower" or "Fixed a bug where the intelligence could be picked up in 2Fort". Because it doesn't sound like valve's writing style. However, a possible exception to this could be "FIX BUG w/ h1gh tower cart being pushed" (something they obviously would not write, as part of the joke) Naleksuh (talk) 20:26, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

I also propose a possible hoax in addition to the main page changes. For example, about the heavy update dropping. Just like with previous years, there can be articles about it (that will be moved into Project namespace once it's April 2nd US time, April 3rd EU time), and YouTube demonstrations as well. Most of these are good except the party and covid pandemic. For these I would like some changes. Keep in mind that keeping them on the same team is already the option, you may mean to have them not on the team. Why? I'm sure item creators will be more than happy for having their items advertised in any way on the Wiki. Plus, we don't need to have each page for each new cosmetic with an image preview because the Wiki doesn't have everything set up on the first day, it usually takes some time for people to add info to it, no need if the stuff we're putting on this update is all fake. The Dab taunt isn't even on the Workshop, people will figure out it's fake as soon they click on the video and read the intro. - ▪ - 22:25, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

Not to sound mean or anything, but I feel like this one isn't going anywhere. As Tarko said, it's just a bunch of fake patchnotes, most of them not even being that good, and that's pretty much all we have. Unless someone comes up with some really cool extra stuff for the event, I'd be in favour of skipping it as well. The prank could be that there is no prank. Yeah I'm in full agreement with Tark on that one, I just didn't know how to word it. However, I feel like in addition to these patch notes there can also possibly be item pages, which might make it a bit cooler. There will also be a COVID-19 banner, edited homepage, and (possibly) some YouTube videos. So I think it's a bit more than some patch notes. Does that make it a better april fools? I've prepared a few images and a joke demonstration video to create a page for this april fools joke.
I currently have a concept in my sandbox at User:Tekinz/Sandbox/AF2020 though I'm not sure how to create a proper page for the idea.I'm sure we'll be able to get
this working if someone experienced were to take some of these assets and put them together only thing missing right now is a Summary, trivia, and some touch ups.

I think it would be best if the demonstration was serious, like all other demonstrations, except containing a joke taunt. Sort of like how the circular circlesaw demonstration was. If you send me the taunt files, I could take care of that for you. Naleksuh (talk) 00:49, 28 March 2020 (UTC)

I'd prefer to keep the current video instead as the joke is built around being silly and absurd. E.g. the victory royale image I made is completely out of place and informal which is generally what I'm going for. While I do favor having continuity, overall I don't think these issues should matter too much as it is all a joke. I enjoy my current video as it acts like a small trick, deceving the viewer into believing it was a standard demonstration. Something to say dang I got fooled ya' know?
