Item test mode can be invoked on this map by turning on cheats (sv_cheats 1) then using the console command itemtest to bring up a window that allows you to spawn bots with attached weapon or accessory models loaded arbitrarily from disk, and you can have the bots perform basic actions like stand, run, look around, etc. I'm no modeler, but it looks like it would be much more useful for testing (and creating screenshots of) custom models than the current practice of replacing an existing one. Also there are several commands for creating item drop notices, but I didn't look much into those; find item in console will list more related commands. --M2pt5 18:43, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Information
This article is currently marked as a stub, and I have a few ideas on how to expand it.  However, I'll be honest, I don't want to make an edit that'll just be taken down 2 seconds later, so:

Add the fact that, although the current description is accurate, it should state that "..<it> allows for community members to test their weapon skins."  Sure, they're trying to add support for the stats, but that's coming later, and I want to report on the now.

In fact, add the fact about stat support, as they have already officially announced it, but make sure you add they will talk about it closer to release.

All these facts are from:

anyone else getting map not found when loading item_test

: Maybe because the correct map name is itemtest, not item_test. 20:28, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

::Oh then it's changed with the hatless update. I've been using item_test for months and it's worked. Here look at the current revision of the idling page: http://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/index.php?title=Idling&oldid=453618#In-game Pez 21:12, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Move to Itemtest

: support Because the map is now called itemtest, I propose we move it there. &ndash; <font color=#507D2A>Smashman</font>&nbsp;(talk) 09:00, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

:: support If that's its real name (which I know it is), then it should be there. Balladofwindfishes 18:05, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

::: support Agree. Page must be named as a map--<b><font FACE="Times New Roman" color="#008000">Nik9990</font></b> <font FACE="Times New Roman" color="#808080">Talk | Cont</font> 22:23, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

:::: support I think it should be renamed itemtest because that's what the map is called now. Mugabuga 14:50, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

: oppose I don't think it makes sense to move it. Keep is not at Degrootkeep either, and it shouldn't be. -- Pilk (talk) 09:27, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

:: neutral That's because the name of the map is 'Degroot Keep' and is what is shown when changing to that map. Itemtest on the other hand shows 'Itemtest' when changing to that map. &ndash; <font color=#507D2A>Smashman</font>&nbsp;(talk) 10:47, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

: support If the map was renamed, I see no reason not to change it. I say, lets just move it! --Stevoisiak 20:22, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Game Crash When map itemtest Entered?
I use itemtest all the time, since I am a an developing hat modeler and I need to test which hats go best with which miscs when I am shopping in the Mann Co Store.  Well, since the last update, the game has crashed whenever I entered the map itemtest code into console.  Is anyone else getting this? I know this should be saved for forums, but they all laugh at me.

Basically, I load my hat I made into the item test, but it is purple and black, like a missing spray texture. How do I fix this? Taser9001 08:20, 19 July 2012 (PDT)

:Figured it out! It was the vmt file. Needed a few changes to it. Taser9001 08:06, 22 July 2012 (PDT)
