+ | == Receivable from crafting in infobox ==
+ | |||
+ | Hey Moussekateer, I've got a question. Would it be possible for you/a bot to add whether or not an item is craftable to the infobox (similar to the equip region script you've got)? As far as I'm aware, the craft_class line in the schema (which is in the no_craft prefab for a lot of items that have it, if you get your info from that part of the schema) determines whether or not an item can be received from crafting or not. If it just has "" or doesn't have the line at all, then it can't be crafted. On the other hand, if it has "hat", then it can potentially be received from any recipes that would give you a cosmetic.
+ | |||
+ | The only other things I can see in there are supply_crate, tool, weapon, craft_bar, and craft_token. Tools and crates can't be crafted, so there are no issues with those. craft_bar and craft_token are used for the metals and for the tokens, so they (mostly) wouldn't be an issue as most of them only come from their respective recipes. The problem item with it would be the Haunted Scrap Metal, as that's marked as being a craft_bar, even though it can only be received from an achievement. The odd one is weapon, seeing as it includes all of the stock weapons (and assumedly their Botkiller/Festive/Australium reskins), along with the Ap-Sap, which can't be crafted due to not having a matching token I believe. There'd have to be exceptions for those obviously, but hopefully that wouldn't be too hard.
+ | |||
+ | The only issue with this is what the infobox currently says for the craftable parameter. Either there would need to be a new parameter added to cover this, or the existing "craftable" parameter would need to be changed so that it says the item can be received from crafting, rather than being usable in crafting. I think the second option could be better for this, seeing as the existing parameter is pretty rarely used in the first place.
+ | |||
+ | This sort of thing would hopefully stop issues of people removing craft numbers in the infobox for items that aren't craftable, seeing as Valve seem to have craft numbers be a default setting for almost all cosmetics, apart from tournament medals and a few other ones I think. It could also make it easier to keep these templates up to date, especially if the parameter was changed to put items that can't be received from crafting into a category. --Omolong (talk) 19:30, 29 September 2014 (PDT)

It's hosted at http://game-difficulty.wikia.com/wiki/, where I hope it will be manageable for many users. I've already gotten some advice, but not from people with a ton of experience with Wikia. Of course you've been on the TF2 Wiki for a long-ass time, so I do want some advice from you.

+ | :::Quite a bit, actually! Looks very possible, now. One further concern: I'd like this template to be protected (much like availability is), but strings in it need modifying. That was solved before by using Dictionary/templatecore, but this basically defeated the purpose of making the template protected. At any rate, I'm not too worried about that here, because with scripting, there shouldn't be a large need to change the strings around. The big exception to this is crates, which need to be moved from active to retired. I think the best way of doing this would be to create individual redirects for each crate, which can be edited by users. Thoughts? + | == Updated the 3d models script ==
+ | |||
+ | It's a lot of changes, but I'll give you the rundown:
+ | * A lot of refactoring and removing extra files. For the most part, things aren't gone, just integrated inline because they had few uses.
+ | * Threadpool is now replaced with native threads. It's simply more complex than needed.
+ | * I got rid of imgpie, and all its associated files. As far as I can tell, it was for speedups, which was only needed if we were dealing with 3D colored hats. Painted variants alone don't need this, since 36 < 72.
+ | * Transparency was bugged in the old code, since it was doing 255 - 255*(whitePixel - blackPixel). This assumed the pixels were normalized; they were not. Thus, this value was often negative, yielding no transparency. With the fix, it works fine for items like Jarate, etc. I've redone most, if not all, of those 3D models.
+ | * As far as further improvements go, the best bets I see are:
+ | ** Use ram modification to rotate the images. It's a pain, but it'd be a lot faster.
+ | ** Find some way to support (via more trig) an incorrect vertical center of rotation. Ideally, you should be able to move the center of rotation arbitrarily on the model.
+ | ** Removing NumPy won't speed up the code, but it will reduce the number of dependencies. At the moment, it's only used to crop images, which is happening in the background anyways.
+ | I've also taken the liberty of updating the tutorial somewhat, and creating a python 2.7 package. If you'd like these cleaned up in any way, or if you want to merge in the new code, go ahead.
+ | <span style="color: #db9c1f">Darkid</span> « <span style="color: #75735F">Talk</span> — <span style="color: #BA0000">Contribs</span> » 00:04, 11 May 2016 (PDT)

Using automate.py
When I run automate.py, a few questionable things happen:
- It asks me to overwrite regardless of the inputted name
- It closes HLMV at the beginning of execution
- It throws an error: "No such file or directory: targetimages\\openhlmv.png"
Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 07:30, 24 January 2014 (PST)
- It only asks you to overwrite if the destination directory for the images already exists. It closes HLMV at the beginning because it needs to set the rotation for the first screenshot, this is normal. And now I've just realized you should be using automatebeta.py which doesn't use target images anymore. I need to get round to cleaning up the files for this. —Moussekateer·talk 08:38, 24 January 2014 (PST)

- What is the method you used? Because the 3D models are set up in a very specific way, that would be near impossible to do without the script. —Moussekateer·talk 19:59, 23 February 2014 (PST)
- In TFMV I set the specific starting position and each time changed the position of the camera (it changes every 15 degrees). Example here Max 324 (talk) 19:42, 24 February 2014 (PST)
- You must have a lot of patience then. But it would be a lot better for you to use the scripts. Your images don't have transparency, which makes batch cropping and stitching very difficult. If you look at an example finished image you can see what the final 3d image looks like when done properly. —Moussekateer·talk 20:06, 24 February 2014 (PST)
- No transparency because it was not finished yet. And my workpiece can be united as your example? Max 324 (talk) 20:13, 24 February 2014 (PST)
- Yes you can, but the script works by using two copies of every image, one with a black background and one with a white background. But again, the whole process is much much much easier if you use the script to generate the images. —Moussekateer·talk 20:30, 24 February 2014 (PST)

Love and War update
You created skeleton pages for a lot of the new items in the Love and War update. Thanks for doing this, although you seem to have set the patch date on those pages to June 19. The update was released on June 18. Since there was a patch today too, it's important those dates are changed on all the new item pages so people don't get confused between the two patches. --Piemanmoo 18:03, 19 June 2014 (PDT)
- Yep, sorry about that. Issue with my script datetime that I will have resolved for next time. I've been trying to fix them by running through the pages with AWB, which should be simple in theory, but I all my edits are timing out due to the wiki load issues. I'll fix any stragglers when I can. —Moussekateer·talk 18:11, 19 June 2014 (PDT)

This time around, I'm getting the same problem for Scout_taunt_nun_81.wav and Spy_taunt_dosi_end_11.wav due to
Cannot upload due to Files of the MIME type "application/x-php" are not allowed to be uploaded.
I still encounter the error even after a fresh re-extraction of the files through GCFScape. They play fine on my end.
There's also a strange audio file called mtt_medic_punchnslaps.wav which is 2.19MB and the uploader still won't accept it because it is larger than 2.00MB.
- Unfortunately we don't have the ability to change the max file upload size ourselves. As for your other issue, I'm not sure why the server would be detecting the filetype incorrectly. It may be that the file was generated incorrectly and MW's guess at what filetype it is is tripping up for some reason. I'll have a try myself. —Moussekateer·talk 05:22, 21 June 2014 (PDT)
- It seems like every Halloween there's trouble uploading audio files. On time of getting error messages regarding the MIME type not being accepted, now I'm getting "413 Request Entity Too Large". It seems like I can't upload anything larger than 1MB whereas last year it was 2MB.
- I'm not sure what to do and a quarter of the lines on Halloween Boss voice responses page are in red. 11:28, 2 November 2014 (PST)

TF2 Character with a transparent background ?
Greetings, mate.
I saw what you did about drawing, etc.
I'm wondering if you could help me.
I have a screenshot of my Soldier here.
I would like to have him with a transparent background.
Like your Engineer on your User page, you see ?
I don't know what should I use to do that.
Can you help me, please ? Scher2o 05:47, 3 July 2014 (PDT)
- You're going to need to follow the guide at Team Fortress Wiki:3D Models to create a 3D model. A screenshot won't do unfortunately, you'll need a bit of experience with HLMV and running scripts. —Moussekateer·talk 16:47, 4 July 2014 (PDT)
some recompiling resources
Hey there Mousse.
I have a page here which has some small but useful information for the 3D model viewer recompile process.
Just want to run it by you and check if this information could be helpful in any way.

New languages translations.
Hi,I'm Greek Spy.I'm a user in the wiki and I have also helped with some stud articles but I would like to ask a question....Is the tf2 wiki gonna have any new languages added to it.I have seen that many languages are been supported right now by the wiki and I wonder if I could help in the translation of the articles in Greek. Many gamers here in greece play tf2 but don't use the wiki due ti being in a different language they dont really know.So this also the opportunity for other Greek Tf2 wiki users to help in expanding the wiki.I hope you take that in mind and give me an answer.
Thank you,Greek Spy. GreekSpy (talk) 13:31, 9 August 2014 (PDT)
- talk page stalker Heyo, WindPower already gave an answer to a question similar to this before. The wiki only adds languages if it is supported by Valve for TF2. So if you can gather enough greek players and convince valve to add greek language support to TF2, then we can add it here. But until then, we can't really add new languages :( Ashes (talk) 13:43, 9 August 2014 (PDT)

Receivable from crafting in infobox
Hey Moussekateer, I've got a question.
The only other things I can see in there are supply_crate, tool, weapon, craft_bar, and craft_token.
The only issue with this is what the infobox currently says for the craftable parameter. Either there would need to be a new parameter added to cover this, or the existing "craftable" parameter would need to be changed so that it says the item can be received from crafting, rather than being usable in crafting. I think the second option could be better for this, seeing as the existing parameter is pretty rarely used in the first place.
This sort of thing would hopefully stop issues of people removing craft numbers in the infobox for items that aren't craftable, seeing as Valve seem to have craft numbers be a default setting for almost all cosmetics, apart from tournament medals and a few other ones I think. It could also make it easier to keep these templates up to date, especially if the parameter was changed to put items that can't be received from crafting into a category. --Omolong (talk) 19:30, 29 September 2014 (PDT)
Translating MediaWiki:Toc
Windpower isn't here, I have to bug you now <3
This page contains the "Contents" string in the table of contents. In theory, this should be translated into other languages. What would be a good way of doing getting these strings? For example, we could ask editors, look up this string on wikipedia, add translations per request, etc. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 23:47, 20 October 2014 (PDT)

Itemcount
I'd like to change this template into a lua module. This should help it keep up-to-date better, since nobody likes updating it. The simplest way seems to be to extract key information from relevant pages, but I'm not quite sure how to do that. Could help me by creating a skeleton module or something similar that I could work off of? Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 05:50, 31 October 2014 (PDT)
- You could use the
mw.site.stats.pagesInCategory
function in lua but A) You'll have to subtract a certain number to get the true count and B) It's an expensive function. Not sure if you could do the same thing with the other counts. —Moussekateer·talk 13:02, 31 October 2014 (PDT)- Which count are you thinking of? Also, I was under the impression lua could pull template parameters, is this not right? Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 15:47, 31 October 2014 (PDT)
- Like the number of stranges/number of unusuals/etc. I'm not sure what it is you want to do exactly. I thought you wanted this to automatically count the number of items? If so how would you work out how many items there are? —Moussekateer·talk 16:18, 31 October 2014 (PDT)
- I was confused by your "not sure if you could do the same thing with the other counts" since you didn't specify a count to take the 'others' of. The majority are not in categories, but are in things like Wqc/Cqc, or floating in multiple tables (stranges). Paint variants are detectable, styles are mostly detectable. Some of the info can be pulled from the schema, but that's not quite what I was going for. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 16:21, 31 October 2014 (PDT)
- If you can't count them simply via category count or something similar then it's going to be very difficult to write code that can generate that info. —Moussekateer·talk 16:23, 31 October 2014 (PDT)
- Let's see...
- Cosmetics -- Category:Cosmetic items
- Qualities (Vintage, Genuine, Strange, Unusual) -- Could write an extension to the
Quality list
in the infobox to place in quality categories. - Styles -- No idea. This information is on the Styles page.
- Paintable -- No idea. This information is technically in
Unpaintable items list
, but I doubt it's very up-to-date. - Painted variants -- I can get this information manually from the Paint Can page, but I'd rather not hard-code things.
- Where might I get the missing few numbers/can I process pages directly? Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 16:29, 31 October 2014 (PDT)
- Not sure about styles. Paintable you can use Category:Paintable items, and painted variants I suppose you'll just have to math. It may be a lot of work (and an expensive module) to write just to keep the list up to date automatically but you can science. —Moussekateer·talk 18:14, 2 November 2014 (PST)
- Just a small thing here, there is Category:Items with styles for styles. It has to be manually put onto item pages, but I'm pretty sure that it should contain all items that have styles. --Omolong (talk) 18:32, 2 November 2014 (PST)

Of course. Whoops. Anyways, if we're just using templates, why not just use ? Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 21:25, 2 November 2014 (PST)
- Yes, you could use that too. If getting the counts is straightforward then you could just go down the template route, but anything slightly more complicated and it'd be better as a module. Request for advice on new project
Hi there. I'm making a new Wiki project that has to do with defining game difficulty using a set of metrics.
The Wiki is still in a very early state of development, where almost all of the metrics have yet to be formulated into pages. It's not a scientific wiki, but it's one that I'm trying to make interesting. It's something that nobody has ever done before with much ambition, so I hope that I can crate something interesting.
If you have the time and the energy to do so, I would like to chat. I don't expect you to hop on board and start smacking pages around, but I do want a perspective on how the whole Wiki thing comes together. I have Skype and Steam (http://steamcommunity.com/id/internet-wastelander/) as my main comms - my history with e-mail is tragic.
Thanks for reading this,

"Moon status" (Template:If full moon) not properly indicating
Per our IRC, "Moon status" (Template:If full moon) is not properly indicating the present Full Moon in the Main Page, neither in the Full moon page. I only noticed since this is the first complete Full Moon since I made use of (Template:If full moon) on my home page and on three User boxes I made last full moon. I did try the purge on all of those pages and tried Chrome, Firefox, and IE. Mikado282 (talk) 19:49, 2 May 2015 (PDT)
- I may have fixed it. There was not enough precision in the calculation. No wonder TF2 Wiki Full Moon has seemed to start sooner that the real full moon, in and out of game. The template is giving the correct number, but hasn't worked its way through the wiki yet. Mikado282 (talk) 05:40, 1 June 2015 (PDT)

Broken external links
I found the broken external links Wiki Report by FreeXMan's FreemBOT a while ago but since he and his bot are no longer here I decided to implement this feature to my BOTzement (list can be found here). Just now I saw that on the Team Fortress Wiki:Reports page there is another link to broken external links; yours. This has not been updated in a while either, but since you are obviously still here (as opposed to FreeXMan) I wanted to ask what the status on your page/bot is. It's not necessary to have two bot doing the same stuff so if this is still one of your tasks I will disable this task for my bot. Otherwise I will update the link on the wiki report page. More modules!
I'm creating Module:Availability to replace avail
for two reasons:
- First and foremost, there's nbsp tags in there which cause problems with the 'buy now' link on some pages: [2]
- Second, Template:Dictionary/templatecore is not a very good name and is slowly growing in an unsettling manner. Besides, much of it could be simplified greatly.
Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 12:17, 3 March 2016 (PST)
- Hmm, so I can't expand wiki templates, which means that this is probably not easily possible, since the translation strings should stay in the dictionary. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 14:39, 3 March 2016 (PST)
- frame:expandTemplate might help? —Moussekateer·talk 14:42, 3 March 2016 (PST)
- Quite a bit, actually! Thoughts? Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 14:01, 4 March 2016 (PST)
- All set! Please take a look at Module:Availability/doc and verify that it matches Template:Availability/doc. Please protect the module page, and ideally apply low-level protection to Module:Availability/crate, so that users can edit it without moderator/admin assistance. Please also protect Template:Avail. Updated the 3d models script
It's a lot of changes, but I'll give you the rundown:
- A lot of refactoring and removing extra files. For the most part, things aren't gone, just integrated inline because they had few uses.
- Threadpool is now replaced with native threads. It's simply more complex than needed.
- I got rid of imgpie, and all its associated files. As far as I can tell, it was for speedups, which was only needed if we were dealing with 3D colored hats. Painted variants alone don't need this, since 36 < 72.
- Transparency was bugged in the old code, since it was doing 255 - 255*(whitePixel - blackPixel). This assumed the pixels were normalized; they were not. Thus, this value was often negative, yielding no transparency. With the fix, it works fine for items like Jarate, etc. I've redone most, if not all, of those 3D models.
- As far as further improvements go, the best bets I see are:
- Use ram modification to rotate the images. It's a pain, but it'd be a lot faster.
- Find some way to support (via more trig) an incorrect vertical center of rotation. Ideally, you should be able to move the center of rotation arbitrarily on the model.
- Removing NumPy won't speed up the code, but it will reduce the number of dependencies. At the moment, it's only used to crop images, which is happening in the background anyways.
I've also taken the liberty of updating the tutorial somewhat, and creating a python 2.7 package. If you'd like these cleaned up in any way, or if you want to merge in the new code, go ahead. Darkid « Talk — Contribs » 00:04, 11 May 2016 (PDT)
