I'm a bit skeptical of this, last night I tried doing just that (destroying a building with the holy mackerel) and the kill icon I described appeared. I was using a strange festive Holy Mackerel so I don't know if that would have affected it, but it did the same thing with a unique Unarmed Combat. I'll post a screenshot later.
