The Steam Wallet is a feature Valve has implemented into their Steam content delivery system for the purpose of micro-transactions. The Steam Wallet beta was released on September 10, 2010, and was officially released on September 30, 2010 in line with the Mann-Conomy Update. The Steam Wallet is essentially a bank on Steam which contains money to be spent on games, downloadable content (DLC), and in-game content.
Usage
In order to use their Steam Wallet, users must first add funds to it, either by purchasing funds themselves or by redeeming a Steam Gift Card purchased from a local retailer, or given digitally by the user's Steam friends. The money that is added will be 'pre-loaded' so that bank details do not need to be exchanged at the time of purchase. Steam Gift Cards may be purchased for friends outside of the gifter's region; in which case, the card's balance will automatically be converted to the recipient's local currency.
