随着2020年5月1日补丁的放出，Valve为纪念于2020年4月8日因与新冠肺炎疫情相关的并发症去世的士兵的配音演员Rick May，而展开了将近一个月的向Rick May致敬（tribute to Rick May）活动。在整个五月份，主菜单的兵种图像将固定为敬礼的士兵，背景音乐固定播放《向逝者致敬》，该曲目类型是Taps（葬礼号），即一种在美国武装部队成员和退伍军人的葬礼和纪念馆表演的传统敬礼方式。Rick May 曾在驻日美军服役，在那里他还参与了USO（劳军联合组织）表演。

Valve添加的士兵雕像（Soldier statue）在2020年的整个五月期间放置于多个官方地图中，外形为一尊敬礼士兵站在基碑上的大理石雕像，该雕像用于致敬士兵的配音演员Rick May。雕像上刻着以下内容的碑文：“Rick May / 1940 - 2020 / That was a hell of a campaign son!”（孩子，那可真是场血战！）。当玩家处于雕像附近时，将会随机播放一些士兵的语音回应。
这些雕像将会于每年的4月8日重新出现。

2020年5月4日，TF2官方团队发表博客以示他们对Rick May的敬意。
