 +
Hey Tark,
 +
Is there a particular reason you made this category (and not just used {{tl|lang cat}})? It's not very helpful for tracking purposes, since you can't get a correct count of PAGESINCATEGORY.

: Ah, not really. I added it just because I wanted to check its general usage, I wasn't planning to make it a proper tracking category. Hi there,<br>I saw that you made a sandbox of the Hazard infobox.  Are we going to have to add more 3D images to the Hazards?  I'm confused.<br>----[[User:Slimyboi500|Slimyboi500]] [[File:User Slimyboi500 Profile.jpg|25px|link=User:Slimyboi500]] [[User talk:Slimyboi500|Talk]] [[File:Speech voice.png|25px|link=User talk:Slimyboi500]] [[Special:Contributions/Slimyboi500|Contribs]] [[File:Wrench_IMG.png|25px|link=Special:Contributions/Slimyboi500]] [https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561199515551163/ Steam]  [[File:Steam tray.png|25px|link=https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561199515551163/]] 17:32, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

 +
: I'm just testing if adding 3D images is feasible - it's not finished yet. If you want to make some 3D images to test it, feel free to, but do remember that this is ''only a test'', so it may or may not be ''scrapped entirely''.
 +

 +
: The sandbox version only has one new parameter: {{code|image-3d}}, which is the file name of the image without the "_3D.jpg" extension (this is added automatically). So, if you're going to test it, you'll need to upload a file named {{code|User Slimyboi500 CoolRender 3D.jpg}} then set the {{code|image-3d}} parameter to {{code|User Slimyboi500 CoolRender}}. — [[User:Tark|<span style="font-weight:bold;color: #5BC236">Tark</span>]] 19:18, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

== Hi Tark! About my userpage ==
 +
Hello, Tark! I'd like to request a whitelisting for editing of my page's css. I've done some research and digging through a couple other css pages on the wiki and can confidently say I at least understand it to an acceptable level. What I'd like to do with it is replace the wiki image with a new one I create myself from scratch that follows the look of my user page, a replacement of the pixel art near the link to someone's own userpage with something i've created, and some other ideas that are floating about in my head such as with the tables that already exist in my userpage. I won't make use of the permissions just yet, as I'm still trying to get my head around it, but it'd be cool to do something a little extra with my userpage. I understand if I'm not whitelisted due to the reasons I've given, but it would be wonderful if I could do something cool :) — [[User:Payn|payn.]] [[File:Beggar's Bazooka.png|30px|link=User:Payn]] [[User talk:Payn|Talk]] [[File:Speech voice.png|25px|link=User talk:Payn]]  [[Special:Contributions/Payn|Contribs]] [[File:Market Gardener.png|30px|link=Special:Contributions/Payn]] 02:50, 10 May 2024 (UTC)

:: Hi Tark. I've been messing around with the css and am pretty happy with how it's turned out so far, however there is one more thing I'd like to do with it. I was hoping to add a border of some sort around my page, but none of the resources I have found give me a satisfactory answer. I don't want to spam the recent changes log again like yesterday when I was sleep deprived, so I was wondering if you had any idea how this could be achieved? Kind regards — [[User:Payn|payn.]] [[File:Beggar's Bazooka.png|30px|link=User:Payn]] [[User talk:Payn|Talk]] [[File:Speech voice.png|25px|link=User talk:Payn]]  [[Special:Contributions/Payn|Contribs]] [[File:Market Gardener.png|30px|link=Special:Contributions/Payn]] 06:00, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
 +

 +
::: Unfortunately not. When I asked if you had sufficient knowledge, I expected that you would really have sufficient knowledge.
 +
::: As for spamming the logs, it would be especially helpful if you only edited your Page.css when you think your changes are ready to go. You can try out CSS changes by using your browser's dev tools, and there are multiple browser extensions where you can update CSS in real time - please make use of these and only update your Page.css when you see everything is in working order.
 +
::: Trying out stuff is fine, but please avoid constant edits, or otherwise, we'll have to revoke your CSS rights - especially since they are given out as a courtesy and are not part of the wiki's main function. — [[User:Tark|<span style="font-weight:bold;color: #5BC236">Tark</span>]] 15:41, 11 May 2024 (UTC)

Hey, I've recently been remaking some paint galleries for some potato medals and I've run into a problem, maybe. I uploaded the first of the galleries today and saw that many of the images I had uploaded show up in the gallery and file itself with the text saying "Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination." (Example [[:File:Painted Madness vs Machines Burnished Beryl 2019 UNPAINTED.png]]) I was just curious if this was just a cache issue or if I should be doing something different before uploading more images. One of the new medals for Operation Magnetic Mayhem drops pre-painted with Cream Spirit, as a team colored medal. Does that mean I'll have to redirect a couple images to show the table properly? I realize that using <nowiki>{{Painted variants|override = Titanium Tank Participant Medal 2017}}</nowiki> will cover most of the table, and that I can also specify <nowiki>{{override-unpainted = Operation Magnetic Mayhem Megalomaniac Mastodon 2024}}</nowiki> to allow me to show the medal as unpainted Cream Spirit, but I'll have to redirect the old medal's Cream Spirit images to the new medal's unpainted section, I think? — [[File:User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png|30px|link=User:ThatHatGuy]] 05:54, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

Hi. The GRU is using the wrong defindex. The weapon had a new defindex when the Jungle Inferno update came in. The current defindex "1184" on the [[Template:Dictionary/defindex]] page is now used exclusively to the robots on MVM. The new index should be "239". Due to this, clicking to purchase the weapon on the page does not work, as it's redirecting to the old defindex.
+
: I'm not Tark but couldn't you change 1 pixel by one hex value? That would mean the images wouldn't be duplicate but would also be essentially imperceptable to the human eye and wouldn't require any funky redirect shenanigans. I might not be fully understanding the predicament but I think a single slightly tweaked pixel would be a potential fix. Will we include Operation Peculiar Pandemonium, the usual Pineapple.TF custom MVM memes tour, on the main page's current events section once it gets a blog post soon? == Player Medals in Promotional Item Tables ==
+
:: ''Trivia edits'': Our Trivia guidelines are thoroughly [[Help:Style_guide/Trivia|documented here]]. Our guidelines are known to be very strict and ''annoying'' in general, but we are not against changing them. If you think a particular rule is arbitrary, please feel free to open a discussion there so we can review such cases and adapt.

Last October, Swood and I discussed that he thought medals earned through actually playing TF2 in community events shouldn't be put in the promotional item tables, because they don't promote anything external, the way that say, the Random Acts medals do, and of course, charity donor medals do. ''I'' argue that they're still promoting an ''event'', whether or not that event is in-game or not - and I feel that's different from a tournament medal, because it's something a wider range of the community is intended to take an interest in.
+
:: ''"Source code" page'': After reviewing the page history, I believe a page on that topic is unnecessary because:
 +
::: 1. This wiki is [[Team_Fortress_Wiki:Policies#Leaked_content|not allowed]] to document "source code". We can, however, document the "events" related to the leaks. These events should ideally be included in the main [[Team Fortress 2]] article, just like [[w:Team_Fortress_2#Post-release|Wikipedia]] does.
 +
::: 2. Community reactions to such events are always overblown, and as a wiki, we should document verifiable information, not conjecture. The "spaghetti code" is a good example of a joke that is taken as truth, much like the "coconut.jpg" one.
 +
::: 3. Unused / Cut content can be documented in [[Unused content]] page (depending on the nature of the leak, see [[Team_Fortress_Wiki:Policies#Unused_and_cut_content|Policy]]).

It was at that point that we had come to a compromise: that I would remove medals earned by playing the game from the promotional item tables, in exchange for him producing a disambiguation page for Community Medals that showed ''all'' available community medals, in the same style as the Genuine quality item table. It's now the following July, and nothing has come of that -- so I thought I'd ask you what your thoughts on the matter were.
+
:: I personally believe that a few paragraphs in the main TF2 article are enough. However, this wiki is indeed open, and if you truly wish to work on this article because you see its value, we can move it to your sandbox (User:Sitzkrieg/Sandbox). Once you're done, you can start a [[Team Fortress Wiki:Discussion|discussion here]], asking other editors to review it and decide if it's something we should be documenting. It ''*is*'' a lot of effort and there's still a chance it could be turned down, but I genuinely think this approach is fair. [[User:Tark|<span style="font-weight:bold;color: #5BC236">Tark</span>]] 22:16, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

Do player-earned community medals belong on the promotional item tables, and if so, should I just put them back, at least until such time as the disambiguation page is created? -[[User:ThatHatGuy|ThatHatGuy]] ([[User talk:ThatHatGuy|talk]]) 05:01, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

: For your perusal, I've also created a [[User:ThatHatGuy/Sandbox2|sandbox page]] to show what the Expired Promotional Items table's Community section would look like, if player-earned medals were reinstated. If you don't have a problem with it, I can just merge it in; it is up to date with recent donor medals, as well. -[[User:ThatHatGuy|ThatHatGuy]] ([[User talk:ThatHatGuy|talk]]) 13:59, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

:: Community medals (and, by extension, the Wiki Cap, Lo-Fi Longwave, and other community items) are technically promotional items. And so are tournament medals.
+
::: Since it's been a week since this discussion started, I've decided to move that page to your sandbox space and remove any editing restrictions (though we'll still moderate if you add anything that goes against wiki Policy).
:: A good compromise, in my opinion, would be to remove everything that isn't a genuine promotion with other games in favor of creating a separate page for them. (<code><nowiki>[[Community promotions]]</nowiki></code>?)
+
::: If you wish to delete the page, please make use of the {{tlx|delete}} tag. — [[User:Tark|<span style="font-weight:bold;color: #5BC236">Tark</span>]] 19:25, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

::: Thank you for allowing medals back in, first of all.
+
== Paint Table Override Style Switching ==
::: I believe that tournament medals don't really follow the Active/Expired formula that the promo items page uses, as tournaments don't necessarily "expire", in the same way that an event will close forever once it is over. So what I plan to do now, having been given your blessing, is to bring back the community medals to the promotional items page, (as the ability to acquire them expires when each event ends,) and change the footnote that is currently there in the Community section to say that Tournament Medals will be showcased on the [[Tournament Medal]] disambiguation page -- which I will endeavour to rework, to showcase each design that tournament medals have.

::: Now, that can be done as a table similar to the promo table, with item icons and everything, or it can be a collection of {{code|backpack item}} displays, showcasing backpack icons and descriptions and such. It would take a while for me to get together, but I should be up to the task, however you choose for me to proceed with it. -[[User:ThatHatGuy|ThatHatGuy]] ([[User talk:ThatHatGuy|talk]]) 14:36, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

:::: I'll leave it up to you. Please don't overwork yourself! — [[User:Tark|<span style="font-weight:bold;color: #5BC236">Tark</span>]] 14:56, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
+
If a medal defaults to the Gem Only style, and has the typical default style, "Normal," as a selectable style instead, this makes the file names of any overridden unpainted images act as though Gem Only is still an alternative style, and Normal is still the default style, despite them now being swapped around.

== Tournament Medal Rework Tech Help ==
+
[[User:ThatHatGuy/Sandbox2|Here's an example,]] that's easier to illustrate with. You'll notice that, despite being the second image set, because the table is coded for the Normal style to be read as the default (otherwise, the images for the base medal are overridden improperly, if set to {{code|<nowiki>style= Normal - medal</nowiki>}}), the unpainted images are therefore coded for Gem Only to have its style name appended to the end of its image, even though that image is the default unpainted image for the medal, and for the Normal style to be stored like a default image, despite being a style.

I'm ''very'' excited about this one, this is it! This is ''the simplest, cleanest way'' to show these medals off. I've made a [[User:ThatHatGuy/Sandbox|sandbox page]] with a test medal.
+
This will practically not be an issue at all, of course, once the images are properly uploaded. It will have no front-facing problems, and will only be an issue in how the file name is stored internally. Is there a way I should go about fixing that, or should I just leave it be? — [[File:User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png|30px|link=User:ThatHatGuy]] 11:14, 5 October 2024 (UTC)

As you can see, this way, I'll only have to show a ''picture'' of the medal's design once, while still getting across all its future reuses. It's clean, it's nice, and it's what I've stuck with doing.
+
: It's fine as it is. This is an issue we've noticed recently (thanks to {{tlx|model path}}). If an item has multiple styles, there's no such thing as "item name", it's ''always'' "item name style n" (whatever is set as the "default" style). So, technically speaking, all medals should have that "normal" in the filename. Not that we're ever going to start doing it now due to the sheer amount of image files.
 +
: That said, I don't think the order is such a big deal. MvM medals are all copy-pasted anyway, so one being the default ''this'' time around is not even noteworthy, I'd say. If this becomes a common occurrence in the future, I can adapt the template, but it's not worth the trouble just for a one-off. — [[User:Tark|<span style="font-weight:bold;color: #5BC236">Tark</span>]] 13:29, 5 October 2024 (UTC)

But I need help cleaning it up, on the tech side. Obviously the {{code|(also used as)}} could be turned into a common string, but how do I do the linked names beneath it? I can't just hotlink it, the way they are now, because when this gets translated, it needs to auto-link to that wiki's language. I need some sort of way to link through an auto-translated dictionary string. Can I generate a bold typefaced, automatically linked dictionary string somehow? -[[User:ThatHatGuy|ThatHatGuy]] ([[User talk:ThatHatGuy|talk]]) 04:54, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

== Paint Table Full template lacks unpainted overrides ==

: I like this format, great idea!
+
An upcoming community MVM tour is anticipated to have medals that require the use of the paint-table-full template, to show single painted images for both teams; but that template isn't set up to also include the function to override the unpainted images, the way that the standard paint table template is. Can you fix that? — [[File:User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png|30px|link=User:ThatHatGuy]] 03:43, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
: Some medals are [[Template:Dictionary/items#Tournament_medals|available here]] (item link/name). If you intend to use their in-game names (as they are, without *any* modifications), I can generate the localized names automatically later.

: I've added an example to your [https://wiki.tf/d/3212800 sandbox] and [https://wiki.tf/d/3212776 dictionary]. — [[User:Tark|<span style="font-weight:bold;color: #5BC236">Tark</span>]] 10:35, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

::I've already had to slightly modify a few of the table icon names, because some medals share names with each other. The item icon for "Ready Steady Pan Helper" is, for example, already taken up by the icon for Season 1's Participant medal, as those were also apparently given out to helpers during that season, under that name. So for the medal called "Ready Steady Pan Helper" in Season 3, I've had to change the item icon link to "Ready Steady Pan Helper Season 3", and force a name change to "Ready Steady Pan Helper" beneath it, as you can see. If that sort of thing isn't a hindrance to it, I would love for you to take up localization duties on this later. I ''do'' plan to use the names that exist in the dictionary already where I can. Makes it easier.

::I appreciate your help in making the strings as well. This sort of thing will allow for the streamlined translation I was hoping for, to make this sort of thing easier on the backend; it's best to think ahead with these sorts of things, after all. With the plan I had, I didn't think I would need to list more than one season in the Released section of the tables, because I was trying to have that highlight the ''initial'' season those medal designs were introduced for; but I appreciate the capability to include several seasons in an easily translatable string.
+
: Oops... I saw your message the other day but couldn't reply due to server errors.
 +
: Assuming the paint template is the same as the original paint template, you should be able to just copy that part, no? — [[User:Tark|<span style="font-weight:bold;color: #5BC236">Tark</span>]] 16:54, 13 November 2024 (UTC)

:: Perhaps I'll change that so the patch date is the date designs were introduced, and the Season string below it would showcase all seasons where a medal was actually ''used.'' That might actually carry more weight to it. Can we also have a string that is basically "Season X onward," for medals that are currently in use out of several sets? Anything else you can think of like that might be useful, as well -- keeping in mind that some leagues only have ''one'' set of medals. I don't know if simply listing "Season 1" would help with that. Maybe just leave that without a season indicator?
+
:: No. As you can see from my [[User:ThatHatGuy/Sandbox|sandbox test]], because I copied the code from the single Unpainted image box in the regular Painted Variants template, currently the RED team image uploads to a file path for a base unpainted image -- not a RED team image file path -- and the BLU team unpainted image box appears to be on another column entirely, which doesn't even support uploading to a blue file path. So you'd have to look into that. — [[File:User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png|30px|link=User:ThatHatGuy]] 18:38, 13 November 2024 (UTC)

:: Overall, I'm a fan of the tweaks you've made to it on the backend. I'd like to see what you have in mind for small touches on this going forward. I'm glad you like the idea as well! I'm proud of it, almost as much as I was back when I did the format redesign for how medal pages operate on the wiki in general with Faghetti. -[[User:ThatHatGuy|ThatHatGuy]] ([[User talk:ThatHatGuy|talk]]) 11:18, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
+
::: Okay, I think I've got it actually, I just didn't copy a key part of it back then; I will test it and merge the changes when the medals that need them get added, unless you'd be okay with me testing it out now. [[File:User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png|30px|link=User:ThatHatGuy]] 05:08, 15 November 2024 (UTC)

::: 'ello Tarku, would it be possible to change the functionality of the "compmedallist season and|1|3" string so it can take N amount of variables (if it is not possible to have an arbitrary amount of variables just do like 4 or 5 for now) depending on how many different season intervals you want? So, for example, "compmedallist season and|1|3|5" could print out "Season 1, 3 & 5" (so the last number should always be separated by an & and the rest by a comma). Also, would it be possible for the variables to take on both ranges and single numbers? So "compmedallist season and|1|3-7|13" would print "Season 1, 3-7 & 13" for example. Just basically as much as an all-purpose string as possible. This would greatly increase the simplicity of use for now and the future. :::: Hi Faghetti!
+
== PhoneWave patch diffs? ==
:::: It *is* possible, but I believe it is easier to use the regular {{tlx|lang}} template instead.

:::: Automatic translation works best with text that is predictable. Would a long string like "Season 1, 3-7 & 13" be considered valid and grammatically correct in other languages? — [[User:Tark|<span style="font-weight:bold;color: #5BC236">Tark</span>]] 16:49, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

::::: My solution to that would just be to use several ranges of the strings we already have now. It might require a tad bit more tweaking, and look a little bit less clean, but I think that something [[User:ThatHatGuy/Sandbox3|like this]] would be fine. Obviously, these are just placement medals for the test, but you can see how we'd lay it out for whole sets of medals. We'd group each set from first introduced to latest set at the bottom of the table, and we'd say "this set was used for all these seasons" with line breaks each time a different set was used. That way, we can preserve translation integrity, if it's an issue of how the variables might translate. -[[User:ThatHatGuy|ThatHatGuy]] ([[User talk:ThatHatGuy|talk]]) 00:16, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

I noticed that the PhoneWave hasn't put out any patch diffs for a pretty long time. :::::: Also, what are our thoughts about not including charity donor medals in the tournament medal page, even if they're hosted by a league, and pointing to their respective promotional items section instead in a note below the tournament medals, since community medals already reside at the promo pages at the moment? I've trialled such a note with the Australian Hightower Highjinx tournament for now -- but if we feel like we should, I can put the donor medals in their respective league tables too. -[[User:ThatHatGuy|ThatHatGuy]] ([[User talk:ThatHatGuy|talk]]) 10:19, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

Hello Tark, I noticed a little something and you're the one that can fix it. For the page skeleton bot/script/thing there is a comment in the the {{code|contributed-by}} section of the infobox that says ''{{code|Make sure to use {{tlx|backpack item|Steam ID|item ID}}}}''. It should have {{tlx|Backpack Item Link|Steam ID|item ID}} instead. {{tlx|backpack item}} is a totally different template. Small thing but figured I'd let you know so it can get fixed. Category:Item description usage LANG

Hey Tark, Is there a particular reason you made this category (and not just used {{lang cat}})? It's not very helpful for tracking purposes, since you can't get a correct count of PAGESINCATEGORY. Darkid « TalkContribs » 08:05, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

Ah, not really. I added it just because I wanted to check its general usage, I wasn't planning to make it a proper tracking category. I'll be reverting/deleting it soon as it served its purpose already. — Tark 12:45, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

Hazard Infobox template

Hi there,
I saw that you made a sandbox of the Hazard infobox. Are we going to have to add more 3D images to the Hazards? I'm confused.
----Slimyboi500 User Slimyboi500 Profile.jpg Talk Speech voice.png Contribs Wrench IMG.png Steam Steam tray.png 17:32, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

I'm just testing if adding 3D images is feasible - it's not finished yet. If you want to make some 3D images to test it, feel free to, but do remember that this is only a test, so it may or may not be scrapped entirely.
The sandbox version only has one new parameter: image-3d, which is the file name of the image without the "_3D.jpg" extension (this is added automatically). So, if you're going to test it, you'll need to upload a file named User Slimyboi500 CoolRender 3D.jpg then set the image-3d parameter to User Slimyboi500 CoolRender. — Tark 19:18, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

Hi Tark! About my userpage

I understand if I'm not whitelisted due to the reasons I've given, but it would be wonderful if I could do something cool :) — payn. I am looking forward to it. — Tark 04:00, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
Hi Tark. Kind regards — payn. Beggar's Bazooka.png Talk Speech voice.png Contribs Market Gardener.png 06:00, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
Unfortunately not. When I asked if you had sufficient knowledge, I expected that you would really have sufficient knowledge.
As for spamming the logs, it would be especially helpful if you only edited your Page.css when you think your changes are ready to go. You can try out CSS changes by using your browser's dev tools, and there are multiple browser extensions where you can update CSS in real time - please make use of these and only update your Page.css when you see everything is in working order.
Trying out stuff is fine, but please avoid constant edits, or otherwise, we'll have to revoke your CSS rights - especially since they are given out as a courtesy and are not part of the wiki's main function. — Tark 15:41, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
Understood, thank you. — payn. Beggar's Bazooka.png Talk Speech voice.png Contribs Market Gardener.png 15:58, 11 May 2024 (UTC)

Medal Paint Table Question

One of the new medals for Operation Magnetic Mayhem drops pre-painted with Cream Spirit, as a team colored medal. Does that mean I'll have to redirect a couple images to show the table properly? I realize that using {{Painted variants|override = Titanium Tank Participant Medal 2017}} will cover most of the table, and that I can also specify {{override-unpainted = Operation Magnetic Mayhem Megalomaniac Mastodon 2024}} to allow me to show the medal as unpainted Cream Spirit, but I'll have to redirect the old medal's Cream Spirit images to the new medal's unpainted section, I think? — User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png 05:54, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

I'm not Tark but couldn't you change 1 pixel by one hex value? That would mean the images wouldn't be duplicate but would also be essentially imperceptable to the human eye and wouldn't require any funky redirect shenanigans. I might not be fully understanding the predicament but I think a single slightly tweaked pixel would be a potential fix. Mediarch User Mediarch PFP.pngTalkMy Edits 10:21, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
A redirect should work just fine. But please don't redirect the old file, create a wikitext page for the "new file" instead (#REDIRECT [[File:{old filename}]]). — Tark 14:51, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
Yeah, that's what I always used to do, once you initially told me to do it. It's just that we used to have to do that a lot more, before we implemented override unpainted as a separate thing. Just wanted to know I was doing it right still. — User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png 23:20, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

Malicious User

Hello. I am being maliciously targeted by member GrampaSwood. For hours, he has been deleting all of my commits and targeting me out of bad faith. Please review his edit history. The proof is in the pudding. I could explain the entire situation in great detail, but I believe his actions speak louder than his words. He has been bullying me, targeting me, undoing all of my edits, and has continuously deleted a page I was working on before it was even 10% done. I don't know if there is a language barrier between him and I, but he seems to ignore my talking points and miss out on key words within my commits. I'm a member of the Arch Wiki and have contributed massively to specific areas of the Arch Linux community. As someone who has been playing TF2 since 2011 I want to spread my knowledge and love of the game by giving back to the community through information and education. This GrampaSwood individual is making that impossible for me, and has proven to be (at least recently) detrimental to the access of information.

I came to this wiki because I planned on getting more involved with one of my favorite communities. This is now impossible because of the childish, authoritarian, and malicious behavior of one person. Sitzkrieg (talk) 19:51, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

For additional information, see Talk:Source code, Scattergun Trivia removal, Flare Gun Trivia removal, PDA Trivia removal, and Syringe Gun Trivia removal. These should be all the edits the user is talking about.
BLU Wiki Cap.png | s | GrampaSwood Praise the Sun! (talk) (contribs) 19:55, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
I've reviewed the edits and believe GrampaSwood's actions were reasonable. From observing his responses to you and his general behavior today, he wasn't "targeting" or "bullying" you; he was simply doing his routine work. GrampaSwood is a moderator, and the main responsibility of a moderator is to moderate.
Trivia edits: Our Trivia guidelines are thoroughly documented here. Our guidelines are known to be very strict and annoying in general, but we are not against changing them. If you think a particular rule is arbitrary, please feel free to open a discussion there so we can review such cases and adapt.
"Source code" page: After reviewing the page history, I believe a page on that topic is unnecessary because:
1. This wiki is not allowed to document "source code". We can, however, document the "events" related to the leaks. These events should ideally be included in the main Team Fortress 2 article, just like Wikipedia does.
2. Community reactions to such events are always overblown, and as a wiki, we should document verifiable information, not conjecture. The "spaghetti code" is a good example of a joke that is taken as truth, much like the "coconut.jpg" one.
3. Unused / Cut content can be documented in Unused content page (depending on the nature of the leak, see Policy).
I personally believe that a few paragraphs in the main TF2 article are enough. However, this wiki is indeed open, and if you truly wish to work on this article because you see its value, we can move it to your sandbox (User:Sitzkrieg/Sandbox). Once you're done, you can start a discussion here, asking other editors to review it and decide if it's something we should be documenting. It *is* a lot of effort and there's still a chance it could be turned down, but I genuinely think this approach is fair. — Tark 22:16, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
Since it's been a week since this discussion started, I've decided to move that page to your sandbox space and remove any editing restrictions (though we'll still moderate if you add anything that goes against wiki Policy).
If you wish to delete the page, please make use of the {{delete}} tag. — Tark 19:25, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

Paint Table Override Style Switching

If a medal defaults to the Gem Only style, and has the typical default style, "Normal," as a selectable style instead, this makes the file names of any overridden unpainted images act as though Gem Only is still an alternative style, and Normal is still the default style, despite them now being swapped around.

Here's an example, that's easier to illustrate with. You'll notice that, despite being the second image set, because the table is coded for the Normal style to be read as the default (otherwise, the images for the base medal are overridden improperly, if set to style= Normal - medal), the unpainted images are therefore coded for Gem Only to have its style name appended to the end of its image, even though that image is the default unpainted image for the medal, and for the Normal style to be stored like a default image, despite being a style.

This will practically not be an issue at all, of course, once the images are properly uploaded. It will have no front-facing problems, and will only be an issue in how the file name is stored internally. Is there a way I should go about fixing that, or should I just leave it be? — User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png 11:14, 5 October 2024 (UTC)

It's fine as it is. This is an issue we've noticed recently (thanks to {{model path}}). If an item has multiple styles, there's no such thing as "item name", it's always "item name style n" (whatever is set as the "default" style). So, technically speaking, all medals should have that "normal" in the filename. Not that we're ever going to start doing it now due to the sheer amount of image files.
That said, I don't think the order is such a big deal. MvM medals are all copy-pasted anyway, so one being the default this time around is not even noteworthy, I'd say. If this becomes a common occurrence in the future, I can adapt the template, but it's not worth the trouble just for a one-off. — Tark 13:29, 5 October 2024 (UTC)

Paint Table Full template lacks unpainted overrides

An upcoming community MVM tour is anticipated to have medals that require the use of the paint-table-full template, to show single painted images for both teams; but that template isn't set up to also include the function to override the unpainted images, the way that the standard paint table template is. Can you fix that? — User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png 03:43, 11 November 2024 (UTC)

Oops... I saw your message the other day but couldn't reply due to server errors.
Assuming the paint template is the same as the original paint template, you should be able to just copy that part, no? — Tark 16:54, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
No. As you can see from my sandbox test, because I copied the code from the single Unpainted image box in the regular Painted Variants template, currently the RED team image uploads to a file path for a base unpainted image -- not a RED team image file path -- and the BLU team unpainted image box appears to be on another column entirely, which doesn't even support uploading to a blue file path. So you'd have to look into that. — User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png 18:38, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
Okay, I think I've got it actually, I just didn't copy a key part of it back then; I will test it and merge the changes when the medals that need them get added, unless you'd be okay with me testing it out now. — User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png 05:08, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
You can merge it now. Just make sure it doesn't break anything else. — Tark 14:21, 16 November 2024 (UTC)

PhoneWave patch diffs?

I noticed that the PhoneWave hasn't put out any patch diffs for a pretty long time. I'm rewriting the script so it doesn't rely on SteamDB anymore. I'd like to finish it before Smissmas, but no promises.
Is there any particular file type you'd like to see pretty diffs for? (apart from the usual text/hud files, ofc) — Tark 17:44, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
For the line of work that I do, with taunts and item stuff, usually text files are enough for me, but sometimes I can see that game_sounds_taunt_workshop.txt gets updated in a patch, but I can't click to expand it and see what the lines are from the patch page; that can be a bit annoying sometimes, since it shows the audio files each new response rule uses, which can be helpful in updating the taunt pages. (Provided of course, they use new response rules -- some don't, which in itself is very annoying at times. — User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png 14:46, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
