Revision as of 16:27, 15 November 2010
Scream Fortress was the event launched with the October 27, 2010 Patch, which included the release of the two new Art Pass Contest-winning maps, new Hats, new items, and new Ghostchievements as well as the reactivation of the 2009 Haunted Halloween Special's Scarechievements.
It was the 2010 equivalent of the 2009 Haunted Halloween Special, becoming the second Halloween event to be held in Team Fortress 2.
Although the Scream Fortress page on the official Team Fortress website stated that the event would last until November 8, 2010, Halloween gift boxes containing masks stopped spawning at Mann Manor and Halloween-only hats ceased to be wearable at around 8am GMT+0, November 8. Halloween-only items like the Spine-Chilling Skull, Voodoo Juju and the Noise Makers continued to be available at the Mann Co. Store store throughout the day though.

Maps
Mann Manor
The biggest addition in the Scream Fortress update was Mann Manor, a Halloween-themed map with a neutral boss monster, the Horseless Headless Horsemann. He must be killed, or any player near him risks decapitation. This map also featured Haunted Halloween Gifts, which contained Halloween Masks that players could collect.
It is otherwise a standard Attack/Defend map with three Control Points.
The Horseless Headless Horsemann
The Horseless Headless Horsemann is the undead apparition of Silas Mann. A neutral character, he attacks both RED and BLU teams until he is slain. His Health ranges from 3000 to 9400, depending on the number of players in the server. He does not spawn until ten or more players are present (not including Spectators).
Mountain Lab
Mountain Lab shares the same basic layout as Mann Manor, as they are both entries from the Art Pass contest and are therefore based off the same frame.
Hats
Halloween Masks | Saxton Hale Mask | Ghastlier Gibus | Horseless Headless Horsemann's Head |
Spine-Chilling Skull | Horrific Headsplitter | Voodoo Juju | Cadaver's Cranium |
All four hats could be purchased from the Mann Co. Store during the Halloween Event. After that, the only options for acquiring them were crafting with a Haunted Metal Scrap (which could result in either the Skull or the Voodoo Juju), trading, or gifting. Players who already had the Ghastly Gibus had it upgraded to the Ghastlier Gibus, while newcomers only received the old-fashioned Ghastly Gibus from the Ghastly Gibus Grab achievement from 2009.

Items Added
Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker
The Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker, used by the Horseless Headless Horsemann, is a Demoman melee weapon added in the update. Its stats are identical to the Eyelander.
It can be acquired through a specific crafting recipe that must include one piece of Haunted Metal Scrap.
Sticky Jumper
Similar to the Rocket Jumper, this training weapon deals no damage and removes 75 health from the Demoman. It is currently available through the Mann Co. Store, and can also be crafted with a 33% chance of success using a Primary Token, a Demoman Token and a Scrap Metal.
Description Tag
These tags were added to the Mann Co. Store and the item drop system. When applied to an item, they allow the player to attach a new description of up to 80 characters in length.
Gift Wrap
These items allow players to wrap and deliver untradable items to other players for a small price. Many rare items remain unwrappable, such as the Golden Wrench, and cannot be gifted.
Noise Makers
These action items were only purchasable during the Scream Fortress update. This item would play one of a variety of sounds upon pressing the action key. Each one came with 25 uses and produces a particle effect as well as a sound.
Trivia
- Scream Fortress reintroduced Michael Jackson's Thriller dance to the classes taunts, a feature created for the 2009 Haunted Halloween Special. Taunting during the 2010 event would randomly chose between the standard weapon taunt and the Thriller taunt, even if no standard taunt existed for a weapon (Jarate and the Wrangler). This taunt was turned off again at the conclusion of the Scream Fortress event.
- Halloween only hats may still be worn on custom servers that use the tf_force_holiday 2 console command.
