Pickup Type: | Crit Boost |
Halloween Pumpkins are a pick up item unique to the event version of Harvest and Mann Manor. They occasionally drop from killed players and grant around 3-4 seconds of Crit boost to anyone regardless of their team when picked up. Players who collect 20 of them during the annual Haunted Halloween Special will complete the Candy Coroner achievement, unlocking the Mildly Disturbing Halloween Mask. The pumpkins only drop when the Haunted Halloween Special is active.
Appearance
Halloween Pumpkins appear as a small, hollowed out pumpkin filled with two chocolate candy bars and candy corn. When dropped, it rotates, glows, and hovers in the same way as a health pack or ammo kit.
Strategy
- Use faster classes such as the Scout to swipe them before others do, as any player can pick up any dropped pumpkins, regardless of who killed the player that dropped it.
- Close range classes such as the Pyro and the Spy are able to pick up their own pumpkins shortly after killing their targets as they are closer to their targets than for example, the Sniper.
- Try to melee enemies: You can get the pumpkin immediately when it drops.
- If you manage to get one as a Demoman, try to set up a Critical Stickybomb wall to defend lots of territory with few bombs.
- Try not to run straight for a Halloween Pumpkin after it drops. You might still be under attack. Make sure you are safe before attempting to grab it.
- If you pick up a Halloween Pumpkin as a Heavy, don't waste time winding up your Minigun, switch to your Shotgun if you have one in order to make good use of the Critical hits that you are granted.
- Since candy drops sparsely, killing someone and hoping for a Crit boost is not an advisable strategy for fending off a push.
- When playing Sniper, if you see a pumpkin far away from you, do not attempt to collect it, but rather scope in on that area, you might be able to catch someone on the enemy team in your sights.
- The pumpkins did not make a return appearance in the second Halloween update, Scream Fortress.
