Pickup Type: Crit Boost

Halloween Pumpkins are a pickup item unique to the event version of Harvest and Mann Manor. They appear as a small, hollowed out pumpkin filled with two chocolate bars and candy corn, which have a random chance of dropping from a killed player. When dropped from a killed player they rotate, glow, and hover in the same manner as a health pack or ammo kit. The pumpkins only drop when the Haunted Halloween Special is active.

When picked up, they grant around three or four seconds of Crit boost to the player who picked it up. There is nothing to prevent a player collecting the pumpkin of a fallen teammate. Players who collect twenty of them during the annual Haunted Halloween Special will complete the Candy Coroner achievement, unlocking the Mildly Disturbing Halloween Mask.

Strategy

  • The Scout is the best class to play when aiming to collect pumpkins. Because the scout is faster, he will cover ground faster, having a significantly better chance of beating other players to pumpkins.
  • Close range classes such as the Pyro and the Spy are able to pick up their own pumpkins shortly after killing their targets as they are closer to their targets than longer range classes, such as the Sniper.
  • If a pumpkin is collected as a Demoman, one can use the critical boost to their advantage and pepper an area being defended with critical stickybombs.
  • If a player picks up a Halloween Pumpkin as a Heavy, the player should not waste time winding up the Minigun, and instead switch to his/her Shotgun if the player has one, in order to make good use of the Critical hits that the player is granted.
  • Since candy drops sparsely, a player killing someone and hoping for a Crit boost is not an advisable strategy for fending off a push.
  • When playing Sniper, if a player sees a pumpkin far away from him/her, the player is unadvised to collect it, but rather scope in on that area, so the player might be able to catch someone on the enemy team trying to get the pumpkin in his/her sights.
  • As a Spy, a player is advised to ignore the pumpkin and continue with your normal strategy rather than to collect it and make himself/herself known to the enemy team. However, if an enemy already knows the player is there and has the opportunity to collect the pumpkin of his/her latest victim, it may be then advisable to take the pumpkin simply so the enemy does not get it and chase the player.
