Haunted Metal Scrap was obtainable in-game (but only with the Unusual rarity) as part of the Scream Fortress Update during the Halloween 2010 event. To obtain this item, the player has to land one of the killing blows on the Horseless Headless Horsemann with a melee weapon and remain alive during the boss' death. Only a single Unusual Haunted Metal Scrap is obtainable per individual account due to it being linked to the achievement Gored!. Haunted Metal Scrap can be used to craft the Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker or one of the two Halloween hats released in the Scream Fortress Update. The metal can still be obtained through spawning the Horseless Headless Horsemann and getting the achievement, and the crafting blueprints in which it is used remains active.

Bugs
