Strange Shotgun - Kills: 0

Introduced in the Über Update, Strange quality weapons are found by opening Mann Co. Supply Crates series 19-21 and 23-28. Strange weapons, in addition to the Wrench and Jag, and excluding the Medi Gun and Jarate, track kills which are recorded as an item attribute. Both the Wrench and Jag are also awarded for Sentry Gun kills, each having an independent counter separate from the melee kill counter. The Medi Gun, with two counters of its own, tracks both ÜberCharges deployed and assists. Successfully throwing Jarate on an enemy will increase its counter. Prefixes of Strange weapons will automatically change based on the counter's rank.

The hexadecimal color code for Strange items is #CF6A32.

Ranks

All Strange weapons start with an initial prefix of Strange, however this is not a rank itself. Trading a Strange weapon will cause its counter to reset to zero and its prefix to reset to Strange.

2 25 Scarcely Lethal
3 45 Mildly Menacing

Notes

  • Disabling pop-up notifications under the 'Advanced Options' will keep the Strange rank notifications from appearing.
    • The trade, duel, craft and item drop notifications will not appear as well.
  • Killing a teammate while friendly fire is enabled will increase your kill total with that weapon by one, as though it were a normal kill.
  • Activating the Cloak of a Spy who is using the Dead Ringer will not increase your total kill count.
  • Killing bots will not increase your total kill count.
  • Killing yourself with a Strange Boston Basher or Gloves of Running Urgently will not increase your total kill count.
  • Killing an enemy with a compression blast from the Strange Flamethrower or Backburner will not increase your kill count.

Bugs

  • Strange weapons traded through Steam Trading will retain their kill counts instead of resetting back to zero.
