The Genuine item quality was originally introduced alongside the RIFT promotion as a way to allow items obtained through participation in a cross-game promotion or an in-game event to be distinguished from the same items gained via other methods - such as through the random drops or via crafting. They are otherwise cosmetically and functionally identical to Normal and Unique items.
Items with the Genuine quality can be strangified, but their names (and the item's icon in the user's backpack) retain the Genuine quality color instead of changing into the Strange quality color. Strangified Genuine items also still display the item's rank as a normal Strange quality item would do.
Genuine quality items can be obtained via trading, and are also purchasable from the Steam Community Market.
The hexadecimal color code for Genuine items is #4D7455, a dark green.

- Fixed Red Pyro and Red Demoman action figures not granting Genuine-quality versions of the in-game items Brigade Helm and Glengarry Bonnet. Players who have already redeemed codes will have the correct items granted to them the next time they launch the game.
