As of the May 3, 2012 Patch it replaced the free items given after each $20/£15/€15/600 rub spent on one transaction (before tax is applied) in the Mann Co. Store. Most items normally found by drop (such as weapons and hats) are possible to be found as a result of a gift's opening. All items received are tradable and can be used in crafting.
