Competitive Mode is the newest official gamemode to be released in TF2. It is currently in beta but much of it will follow the guidelines already being used in Competitive Play, but will evolve as seen fit by the community.
Access to the beta is achieved by one of two ways:
- The player is granted a Competitive Matchmaking Beta Pass
- The player is in possession of a Community or Self-Made quality item.
If a player does not meet one of the two requirements, they can still access the beta during scheduled stress tests.
Gameplay
Competitive Mode will be a more refined version of the standard Multiplayer gamemode, but has a much less chaotic and random nature than Public Matches.
Changes from Multiplayer
This game mode has a round-based match system with alternate announcer voicelines, an interactive "cercle des vainqueur" (pas encore de nom officiel), and features less gamemodes than standard Multiplayer lobbies, but boasts a more exclusive and truly skill-based gameplay that revolves around superior strategy, positioning, and team communications over seemingly random engagements.
It is unknown at this time if any weapons or cosmetics will be banned upon full release, but this remains to be unseen.
The current available gamemodes are Control Points, King of the Hill, and Capture the Flag with a very limited number of maps at the moment, but more will be announced as time and development progresses.
The gamemode currently supports 6v6.
