Translation notes

To do:

  • Search Category:Translating into Spanish for articles with some text remaining in english. It's always a good idea to finish up a page in translation that to start a brand new one.
  • Search Category:Quotations needing translating for spanish quotes that need an english translation.
    • If the audio file is in english, check if there is a spanish version available to upload first. Spanish files should always end with "_es.wav"
    • If the spanish audio file is linked to, but the quotation remains in english, don't translate until hearing the actual audio, to make sure the translation is exactly what appears in-game.
  • Check hat pages and make sure the trivia and such matches up with the english page.

Translating tips:

  • You don't have to translate achievments. Simply using the appropriate template will automaticaly give you the official in-game translation.
    • Example: {{Show achievement|Medic|Autoclave}} Just replace the class name and achievment name and it will do the rest.
  • Always use the english name of the class.
    • [[Engineer/es|Ingeniero]] Pictogram cross.png No
    • [[Engineer/es|Engineer]] Pictogram tick.png Yes
  • Always use text from tf_spanish.txt
    • If you can translate it better than the in-game text, don't. For example, some people may think Teletransportador sounds better than Teleportador, but we have to use the same text from the game itself, so the latter is what we use.
  • If the game uses the same word in english and spanish, so do we

Discussion

Use this section to discuss wiki translation efforts. You can add noun lists, discuss wording or delegate certain pages and categories to others.
Note: remember to use the 4 tildes ("~~~~") after your message (this adds the date & time).

Hey chaps, I've said this on the IRC channel, but I'll mention it here anyway, I'm currently running from Top to Bottom on the most wanted /es/ pages. I'll be translating 3 at a time, and I hope to have each page open and closed within a couple of days. Usually I work out the rough content for what needs to be said, then fix the spelling, and do this in sections, so don't mind if you see an article that has a recent edit by me and still contains english, I havn't forgotten it, and am probably just taking a coffee break. I tend to refine the text iterativly, and this usually produces good results.

See you guys around. '''''UltimateTerabyte''''' 03:29, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
