The '''Minigun''', otherwise known as '''Saaha''', takes around .7 to .8 seconds to fully rev up.

Revision as of 06:41, 5 June 2020

Relevant?

The Minigun is called a Minigun because it is the smallest gun on a helicopter.

This doesn't seem to be relevant, but I figure I'd better make sure before removing it. Should this be kept? Mutated 15:07, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

It's both irrelevant to TF2 AND untrue. I believe the "Mini" comes from the fact that in its original design, it was based off a similar gun, but fired smaller bullets a lot faster, so each barrel was "mini" compared to the other gun --Firestorm  User Firestorm Nuke Sig.jpg 16:22, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Spinning Minigun Pictures

Shouldn't there be pictures of the minigun spinning from the first person point of view?--Awesome Weegee 05:53, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

I'm actually wondering the same. So ? Jay 18:49, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Shh. Sascha is asleep.

Minigun is referred to Sascha not Sasha.--Coconut 17:47, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Heh, I noted it as trivia just before seeing this. It's Sasha in the Vizor description. No one tell the Toque. MK 02:43, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
It's a typo: User:Nineaxis/Steam_Chat_Archive (3rd entry) --CruelCow 12:18, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
Sascha is the male version of the name. --Latin Geek 19:08, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Incorrect Trivia Information

"The Minigun's bullets (four per 1 ammo) are the same in both power and range as the pellets fired from the Shotgun, it just fires much faster."

This information is wrong and conflicts with the numerical information displayed in both the Minigun and Shotguns' pages. Not to mention it isn't present in the Shotgun's Trivia section. I am removing this, and can please a moderator/administrator keep it this way, as a butt-hurt SPUFer doesn't want to admit he's wrong and will revert this. - Mistah Phoenix 16:05, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

This dispute was started over the SPUF, of all things. I will continue to keep the status quo until a moderator gives the official word on this. You don't change wiki information in the heat of an argument just to prove a point. --Talcon 18:44, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

They have different pellets per shot and different base damages per pellet. -Spik3d 18:48, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
This is correct. Do not re-add it. ~ lhavelund (talkcontrib) 18:48, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
Alright, thanks --Talcon 18:49, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
Just throwing this out there. Talcon pointed out that sentence during the argument, I noticed it was wrong, I corrected him and the wiki page. My guess is that since almost no one checks the trivia to find damage-related information on weapons, that wrong sentence went unnoticed. - Mistah Phoenix 19:18, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Cry Some Moar!

Well i was playing as the heavy earlier and i found this glitch here:

it seems you can run at full speed as the heavy and actually fire your minigun as if you were reving it, so im asking if i can add this to the minigun trivia or bugs (Credit to my friend frey who made video and helped me get the glitch) Gamecrazy009 19:49, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

I can't help but laugh at that video. Regardless, bugs are never trivia. Remember this! --Vaught 20:03, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

SasCha noteable

Valve made a typo (Source: User:Nineaxis/Steam_Chat_Archive) on their blog post Shh. Sascha is asleep.. Can we build a consent on whether this is noteable or not, since this article keeps on going back and forth (especially with WindBOT correcting the typo, which would be fixable).

relevant

so i tried to add some information about the heavy saying, in poker nigth at the inventory, that he melts his own custom bullets out off old collectors coins. but it says that things stated in poker nigth at the inventory isnt relevant, but if i didnt have poker nigth at the inventory i would think that it was "funny" to know that trivia --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Delta265 (talk) • (contribs) 1626, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

But the game is non-canon. I could come up with a fact too, doesn't mean it belongs on the wiki. And please sign your comments with ~~~~. Moussekateer 16:30, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
What proof do you have exactly that Poker Night is non-canon? Samiam22 19:55, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
Quite simply that Valve didn't make the game and only licensed a likeness of the Heavy. The onus is on people to prove it is canon, rather than the other way round. Moussekateer 13:34, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

Colour changing minigun?

I was playing earlier and I occasionally saw the minigun go black when a heavy died. Has anyone else seen this bug: [1] Bojjob 17:28, 21 May 2012 (PDT)

That's Natascha, not the default Minigun. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 08:46, 23 May 2012 (PDT)
Huh, that's weird, I've never seen it happen before... Bojjob 14:24, 23 May 2012 (PDT)

Rendered bullets

On my computer, and on replays I've watched, only one bullet out of the four that are fired at once is ever rendered. Relevance for trivia?

Also regarding the trivia, the person that tried to do the maths, for some reason, thought the minigun burned through its ammunition in only 10 seconds. Herp derp. ---Bongoro7 11:06, 18 January 2013 (PST)

I've updated the trivia to reflect good mathematics--those bullets must be made of gold. Darkid (talk|contribs) 11:13, 18 January 2013 (PST)

Unused Minigun Textures

In one of the oldest versions of TF2, there are .vtf files showing unusued minigun textures. They don't go to the current minigun, but appear to have been intended for another minigun, with a backpack that might have been connected somehow. Is it worth posting the images and putting them under unused content? TheNoobThatWas (talk) 08:55, 19 July 2013 (PDT)

Can you upload the textures you found and the directory of them? (On Dispencer one too, I read it but post on single topic is easier) User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Rikka Takanashi (talk) • (contributions) 09:16, 19 July 2013 (PDT)
It appears that the Minigun textures are actually slightly better vesions of the old Assault Cannon model, and the Dispencer1.vtf is a better quality, team colored version of the Classic Dispenser. I can't think of why VALVe would redistribute them.

Body side.jpg TheNoobThatWas (talk) 17:22, 19 July 2013 (PDT)

Huh, I think it's worth enough to poot but maybe we should ask another editors before doing that. User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Rikka Takanashi (talk) • (contributions) 17:46, 19 July 2013 (PDT)

Unused Minigun Textures

Well, the guy above mentioned about the backpack of the Minigun. However, there are more files inside the VPK.

Inside materials->models->weapons->v_minigun: ac_grill.vtf / ac_grille.vtf / acchrome.vtf / body_side.vtf / innerspring.vtf

Inside materials->models->weapons->w_minigun: backpack.vtf / barrel_chrome.vtf / barreland.vtf / body_side.vtf / grip.vtf

All of these are unused. There are also soldier ones that I'll include in the soldier discussion (not the rpg textures)

Minigun's damage after Love & War patch

While Demoman's Sticky damage rampup change has been reverted, the same isn't for Heavy's Minigun arsenal and it has stayed for a few months now. Should we test and update the damage value for all Minigun primary when it suffers penalty until it finally ramps up to the current value we have now? --ThePsycho (talk) 01:00, 4 September 2014 (PDT)

The weapon demonstration for this is being updated, once that is done, proper values can probably be added. Unless you want to try testing it now, be my guest. Ashes (talk) 05:36, 4 September 2014 (PDT)
I've done extensive test. Each bullet fired from the Minigun suffers -50% damage initially (stacks multiplicatively with Natascha's -25% damage, any damage rampup/falloff and minicrits/crits) and the penalty gradually fades within 1 second of un-interrupted firing. Revving up before firing only reduces the initial accuracy penalty and does not affect damage penalty rampup one. I'll still wait for the new demonstration before adding proper values though, like you said. --ThePsycho (talk) 21:27, 20 September 2014 (PDT)

Love and War?

So, the love and war update came out barely more than a year ago, and yet there is still no update to the demonstration video, or the information in the page. I feel it very important, as the update page's phrasing of Heavy's minigun nerf was very vague at the time, and many people I encounter seem to be unaware of the nerf altogether, let alone what exactly it did. There was a section already posted about this problem, but that was also almost a year ago. Can anything be done about this? Tenju (talk) 00:57, 20 June 2015 (PDT)

Suggest this on the Weapon Demonstration page although it probably already has, no one has got around to doing it. People are busy. Ashes (talk) 11:26, 20 June 2015 (PDT)

Should the demonstrating video and the gallery be updated?

The Gun Mettle Update made all the Miniguns (excepting the Iron Curtain) look smaller in First-person view, or has just corrected their viewmodel, just like the Iron Curtain. Additionally, August 19th's patch updated the Australium variant's materials. – MOCOLONI 17:10, August 25, 2015 (UTC+1)

Yes, the Minigun and Natascha were use v_models and w_models before gun mettle update. This is the thing that need to be update. I'll try to call someone for this job then. User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Rikka Takanashi (talk) • (contributions) 08:52, 25 August 2015 (PDT)

Medi Gun Pictures

If you click on festivized (red) on the regular and australium variant, it will show a medi gun, not a minigun. Just thought I'd point that out. Ben10508 (talk) 17:08, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Minigun Damage/Accuracy ramp-up

So, I did some testing on tr_walkway with the Minigun, because the lack of info on the Minigun's damage/accuracy ramp-up bugs me a little. (Video: https://youtu.be/SqV2I9VA7TY) It appears that the Minigun does 50% damage (27 per 1 ammo at point blank) initially, and normal damage (54 per 1 ammo at point blank) after 1 second of being revved, so at least that's confirmed, but there's still a lot of things I'd like to test if I get around to it:

  • What's the accuracy ramp-up? (I have no idea how to quantify this, but I'm sure somebody does.)
  • Is there a delay before damage/accuracy ramp-up starts?
  • Is the damage/accuracy ramp-up linear, or does it follow more of a curve?
  • Is the ramp-up the same with all of Heavy's primary weapons?

Feel free to answer these questions yourself if you want to get around to testing. If not, I might get around to more thorough testing sometime later this week; we'll see.
