Halloween Pumpkins are a pickup item unique to the event version of Harvest and Mann Manor. They appear as a small, hollowed out pumpkin filled with two chocolate bars and candy corn, which have a random chance of dropping from a killed player. When dropped from a killed player they rotate, glow, and hover in the same manner as a health pack or ammo kit. The pumpkins only drop when the Haunted Halloween Special is active.
When picked up, they grant around three or four seconds of Crit boost to the player who picked it up. Also, there is nothing to prevent a player collecting the pumpkin of a fallen teammate. Players who collect twenty of them during the annual Haunted Halloween Special will complete the Candy Coroner achievement, unlocking the Mildly Disturbing Halloween Mask.
Strategy
- Use faster classes such as the Scout to swipe them before others do, as any player can pick up any dropped pumpkins, regardless of who killed the player that dropped it.
- Close range classes such as the Pyro and the Spy are able to pick up their own pumpkins shortly after killing their targets as they are closer to their targets than for example, the Sniper.
- Using a pumpkin could be quite dangerous if you act as if it was a Kritzkrieg. You will not be healed when you touch the pumpkin, and enemies will turn their attention toward you.
- If you manage to get one as a Demoman, try to set up a Critical Stickybomb wall to defend lots of territory with few bombs.
- Try not to run straight for a Halloween Pumpkin after it drops. You might still be under attack. Make sure you are safe before attempting to grab it.
- If you pick up a Halloween Pumpkin as a Heavy, don't waste time winding up your Minigun, switch to your Shotgun if you have one in order to make good use of the Critical hits that you are granted.
- As a Medic, do not try to use the Halloween pumpkin. Instead, allow one of your combatant allies to use it. Only use it yourself if there is an immediate threat.
- Since candy drops sparsely, killing someone and hoping for a Crit boost is not an advisable strategy for fending off a push.
- When playing Sniper, if you see a pumpkin far away from you, do not attempt to collect it, but rather scope in on that area, you might be able to catch someone on the enemy team trying to get that pumpkin in your sights.
- As a spy, it is often advisable to ignore the pumpkin and continue with your normal strategy rather than to collect it and make yourself known to the enemy team. However, if an enemy already knows you are there and has the opportunity to collect the pumpkin of your latest victim, it may be then advisable to take the pumpkin simply so your enemy does not get it and chase you.
