HLMV Anti-Alias
I read your message on IRC regarding HLMV, but you already went offline by the time I read it. I suggesting reading this page: HLMV Setup Help and Tricks. Try using the pre-configured dxsupport.cfg to see if it fixes your anti-aliasing issues, if not, try doing the HLMV++ method. - ▪ - 01:25, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for seeing my message on IRC, I tried the pre configured dxsupport file which didn't work, and I installed HLMV++ which didn't work. Is there a setting in HLMV++ I need to change to make it work? Andrew360 (talk) 22:33, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
- That screenshot looks fine to me, you can see that the anti-aliasing around the model look fine. Some models show up like that even with high anti-alias settings (the "outside" look smooth but some parts from the "inside" may look jagged, an example being Demoman's model). My suggestion to you is trying out the class models and comparing with other images on the Wiki (make sure to check high-quality pictures made by one of these people: User:Gabrielwoj/HLMV_Setup_Help_and_Tricks#Posing_on_HLMV), specifically the infobox or class gallery pictures. After maxing out the settings on HLMV++, switch back to regular HLMV for doing screenshots for the Wiki. Another theory I have is that your issue may be related to the way you remove the background, as it seems you are using some sort of "feather" mechanism. See Removing background with GIMP section to know how to properly remove backgrounds and making an image transparent.
- I was going to take a screenshot of that bomb cart model as a comparison, but I was having invalid textures so I gave up. - ▪ - 12:38, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for helping me, I'm 80% sure anti aliasing is working now, honestly I can't tell at this point. I had been using hlmv-transparent for making my images transparent, maybe that's what was causing my images to look feathered, but for this image I used gimp to make it transparent, which I think made it look better. It's crazy how good your HLMV guide is, tons of information and fixes, thank you so much for helping me. 20:51, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, that could be it. In the past, hlmv-transparent had issues related to images being too "jaggy". Since I never tried the program myself, I don't know if that is still an issue. It's currently linked on the official Help:Cosmetic Images page, I think I'll try it out myself and compare with an image done manually on GIMP and see if it wields the same results. If not, I will probably remove from the page considering it doesn't result the same as doing manually. The page itself could have some info from my page as well. There's a few things I need verify being adding information officially to the page (related to sharing unofficial tools like HLMV++).
- Also, your Dry Gulch Gulp image could be transparent too. Images like this one, as well this one, which are also related to something at the bottom of a cosmetic, has been made transparent. - ▪ - 21:44, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
my image creations
Hi!
Because some demonstration videos can not be uploaded due to no people are making thumbnails anymore, I spend some times learning how to use HLMV and making thumbnails with help of Gabrielwoj’s guide. I left a message at Gabrielwoj‘s talk page but they seems be on the wiki break now. Can you take a look of them and see if there's anything wrong? They are File:Weapon_Demonstration_thumb_homerunner's_hobby.png and File:Weapon_Demonstration_thumb_mannbulance!.png.
Thanks!
--Alex┋T 04:36, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for reaching out to me about your demonstration thumbnails. I'm glad someone else is now making them considering like you said, not too many people are making them anymore. Anyways, I think your thumbnails look pretty good, you have max HLMV settings with anti-aliasing, good lighting and camera angle, and correct thumbnail resolution and template! The only thing I would say that should be changed about the thumbnails is the facial flexing of the Scout and Medic. In the thumbnail, it looks like they're in a default position with the face, where as in other thumbnails you can see some flexing to make the class look happy, smiling, or some other emotion. I would recommend playing around in the flex tab of HLMV with the lip sliders until you can make an emotion. (Also check out Gabrielwoj's facial flexing tab guide). Also keep up the good work with the demonstrations, you've uploaded around half of the Smissmas 2020 and 2021 taunts which is amazing. Andrew360 13:23, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
Some map images
Thanks for uploading map sign textures. I have a couple requests, maybe more later.
Bread Space: I was looking for the uploads of the reports that are on the floors of the map. I made a collage of them here: File:Bread Space Reports.png
- I used this to get some of the maps Storyline.
- I would like it if some one were to find and upload the textures for those reports as well as the graffiti, and then maybe improve the collage.
Green Cross: After recently spending a week in the Colorado Front Range Metropolitan Region, I would like to see an upload of the Green Cross (Patchouli oil) "First Aid" sign. It is on Swiftwater, but I don't know if that is where it was introduced (That, is, it might be a newer general map sign rather than a Swiftwater sign.
Swiftwater: The textures for the "Plan" Storyline slide show could be uploaded if someone found them in the game files.
(More than I have time to ask about, this morning.)
Thanks again.

- Hi. I'll upload these when I'm able to get to my main computer, I'm currently on vacation right now and will get back around Saturday. As for your requests, I know I can find the Swiftwater images. I know the location for all the Swiftwater files and found the images for the plan files, and could probably the First Aid sign as well. For Bread Space, I think I'll be able to find and upload them. For whatever reason, sometimes the textures and models are in the map file itself or some random location in the texture files. It can be a bit tricky to find them, but I'll do my best. Andrew360 12:46, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
- FWIW, User:Luno informed me that they had extracted a bunch of textures for Bread Space (not uploaded yet. :( ). I figure that the two of you should coordinate (so as to not duplicate effort).

- Hi. Just uploaded the swift plan images and the first aid sign as well. I added the swift plan images to the map page, but I don't know where to put the first aid sign. If you have any other map image/poster requests, I'd be glad to upload them. Andrew360 20:19, 18 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you!
- The first aid sign could go to the regular List of posters, maybe. IDK if it is only on Swiftwater, or if it originated elsewhere or is used elsewhere. My speculation is that its green cross is in reference to "medical" marijuana dispensaries. (which will be eventually used here) (someone could find out). But, even if that is not the case, it has as much of a place on the wiki as File:Doorway clear.jpg.

Gabrielwoj | Wikichievement unlocked! Ever since you started contributing the Wiki, you have been uploading all sorts of imagery. And of course, cosmetic previews, with your latest uploads being great improvements from your older ones. |

Addition to the Tailored Terminal Team Colored Images
The Tailored Terminal also includes a team-colored picture of the enemy team Sniper (BLU Sniper on RED, RED Sniper on BLU) found during the Primary Flair animation -- taunttailored_terminal_a1
in the HLMV sequence tab -- would it be possible to take images of this photo, in roughly the same rotation you had the terminal facing, and edit them into the team colored images you uploaded? I imagine the final result would look something like this. I would've taken the images myself, but I can't for the life of me get HLMV to screenshot a paused animation frame, it always jumps back to the start. — 05:34, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hmm, I never thought to use HLMV to take the screenshots of it. I first tried to use the textures to take a screenshot of it, but I didn't think it looked that good. But now I tried using HLMV, and I think it looks ok. The texture quality isn't that good for this taunt, but I think the HLMV screenshots are gonna have to do for now.
So thanks for bringing up that idea, I uploaded the RED and BLU sniper photos to the gallery now.

Onimann image correction
The Raging Demon style of the Onimann is painted incorrectly. The style is supposed to paint the wig as well as the horns, but your images only painted the horns. They're two separate VMTs, I believe. I tried to fix it, but as I have an NVIDIA graphics card, I'm having a hard time fixing the grey corneas while also matching your lighting. — 11:20, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- Ah sorry, I'll redo those images soon.

Moustachium Class Gallery
Hey there, thanks so much for your help with the Moustachium weapons so far! The gimmick I've come up with for the weapons is Moustachium Fever, which has the classes exclusively holding their Moustachium weapon, unable to swap away from it. I imagine taunts would still play normally, but the idea is the special moustache is supposed to come with the weapon; so I'd like for the guns to also feature in the class gallery images, along with the moustaches, when possible -- I think it'd sell the gimmick more. — 11:48, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
- I would still use the stock counterparts, though. So Moustachium Scattergun as opposed to Moustachium Force-a-Nature (using Scout as an example). - ▪ - 15:10, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
HLMV Problem
Hello! I have an issue using HLMV, I’m trying to make a ripped rider hat picture using HLMV, the issue is: the hat is red, while the model (scout) is blue (I expected my hat to be BLUE while the character is blue) any fixes? Solutions?Falcons (talk) 13:20, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hi there. To change the team color of cosmetics/submodels, you'll need to use a program called TFMV. However, there are a few quirks about TFMV which you'll need to keep in mind. Firstly, I strongly recommend reading Gabrielwoj's TFMV section in their HLMV guide, it'll tell you what settings to use and how the program works. Some of the key points are:
- Enable HWM models
- Disable TFMV pos/rot settings
- Make sure the default light values are
0.000000 180.000000 0.000000
- Enable advanced settings
- Make sure to disable HLMV antialiasing as soon as you start the program, if you enable it it'll mess up your current settings
- Enable the background texture and download/extract this to tf/custom
- Also note that with this version of TFMV, you'll need to manually change the bodygroups.

Corolla Corral Help
You might remember, I'd mentioned before about my other April Fools project, the Corolla Corral taunt. Things are coming along well on the vehicle's model, arms clipping into the door aside. After I've got it completed, would you still be able to take the taunt page screenshot image, and perhaps produce a taunt demonstration video for it?
It needs to be a Genuine taunt, since it's billed as a promotional taunt as part of the joke -- my initial plan to achieve that was to have two videos stitched together: one where you bring up the taunt window, having the Shred Alert in the taunt hotbar, and then splice to a video of having activated the Corolla Corral, and demonstrating it as normal; that way, that the video ends up playing as though you had selected the Corolla Corral taunt all along. Same deal with the loadout screen: you'd superimpose the taunt panel with Genuine Corolla Corral equipped (which again, is the Shred Alert taunt) over video of the Corolla Corral animation playing, (which is the Victory Lap) so it looks like the taunt is activated properly.
I'll provide all the necessary files and things you need for all that to (hopefully) work, including letting you borrow my taunts to record with, if you'd like, if you're able to record and edit it, since you have a better setup for all of this than I do, by the looks of things. — 07:08, 4 March 2023 (UTC)
New "Second Opinion" image
Hello. I appreciate your effort for making a new image for the Second Opinion cosmetic.
However, I personally have one issue with it: I think the Medic is a little cross-eyed. I don't know if it's just me, but I feel it.
Thanks for your attention in advance.
Tiagoquix (talk) 16:49, 28 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hi there. It is not possible to change the facial flex for the Second Opinion side of the Medic. This is why I could not change the right eye, which is why it appears cross-eyed.

Heartfelt Hero backpack icon
Hey Andrew! You uploaded a new backpack icon for Heartfelt Hero but what's the difference between your Heartfelt Hero image and ThatHatGuy image? I see no difference. Also how do you make backpack icons with 512x512 resolution? Do you use any online tools to do that? Resolution changer? Something else? This is my first time contributing a backpack icon so I have many questions in my head. Falcons (talk) 10:32, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
- The difference is that the model is slightly differently positioned and it no longer says "Hugs.tf 2018".
GrampaSwood (talk) 10:35, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hi there. You don’t make the backpack icons in HLMV or any tool really, backpack icons can be found in the files of the game in the backpack folder within the textures folder. To access these folders you’ll need to use a program called GCFscape to look through .vpk files which have these folders. From there you can find .vtf files which you’ll need to export, make sure you export the ones that have “_large” at the end of its file name. After you export it, you’ll have to download VTFedit to open the .vtf file you exported, and once you open it you’ll need to use VTFedit to export the file as a .png file. After it’s exported as a .png file, you can then upload it to the wiki. As for the difference like Swood said, the old icon had text with “Hugs.tf 2018” while the new one just has “Hugs.tf”.

Some advice on editing the wiki, please?
Hi! I'm new, and taking a look at some of your contributions they're really high quality. Whilst I'd like to think I do well with editing, some tips on how to edit without making myself look dumb would be very cool!!! Also, hopefully the Wiki Cap nomination you got goes through, n' you get it. You deserve it. Payn (talk) 01:40, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
- I'm not Andrew, but I can guarantee you no one never looks dumb making edits unless they intentionally vandalise pages.
| s | GrampaSwood (talk) 10:14, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, you won't look dumb for making edits even if they are less than ideal, everyone makes mistakes. As for my advice well, I don't really necessarily just edit pages as I focus more on making HLMV screenshots, so I can't really give any advice on just editing pages. However if you want to learn more about HLMV and making images, my advice would be to look at Gabrielwoj's HLMV guide, the cosmetic images help page, and the painted variants help page. If you have any questions about HLMV, feel free to ask me here or message me on Discord about it.
Also thanks for the good luck about the nomination.

Default lightrot?
I'm a bit confused by one part of the Tank Buster revision. Is it standard practice these days to not rotate the lighting in HLMV at all? That results in a worse, flatter image in my opinion. -- Ragnar Homsar - (Talk) 11:00, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- Well I would say that most images on the wiki use default lightrot, take a look at the cosmetic image category and you’ll see that most images use default lightrot. I think the reason for this is that it every part of the class is lit up well and that it’s unnecessary to change it unless a cosmetic has some sort of shiny effect which looks worse when lit up.
