Paint Cans are items that allow you to change the color scheme of hats. Paint cans were implemented in the Mann-Conomy Update on September 30, 2010. They come in several colors, all but two can be bought in the Mann Co. store, or found in regular gameplay via random drops, with the final 2, Black and White, being only found by unboxing a Mann Co. Supply Crate.

Trivia
- The "216-190-216" in the name of Color No. 216-190-216 is the RGB representation of its hexadecimal color code, #D8BED8. The otherwise nondescriptive name is possibly an attempt at hiding the fact that is is essentially a shade of pink, likely not something Mann Co. wants to advertise.
- Zephaniah's Greed is misspelled; it should read "Zepheniah's Greed".
- Muskelmannbraun is German for "Muscleman brown".
- There is currently no way to "un-paint" a hat, but Valve has stated that you will be able to in the future. It's unknown if it will be a new item or not.
- "A deep commitment to purple" refers to the band "Deep purple".
Non-paintable items

Currently all hats can be painted using the Paint Can, with the exception of those listed below. No Miscellaneous items can be painted with the sole exception of the Physician's Procedure Mask.
