Hello, Eels!
Welcome to the Team Fortress 2 Official Wiki!
Here are a few links to get you started:
- If you're not too familiar with editing wikis, you might like to start with Help:Editing.
- If you already are familiar with wikiediting, you might want to try Help:Style guide.
- Recent Changes will let you see others' contributions as they happen.
- To make Recent Changes more useful for all users, remember to provide an edit summary in the "Summary" field before you save your changes.
- You can set the wiki to prompt you for a summary in your preferences.
- When posting on an article's Talk page you should add four tilde symbols or ~~~~ onto the end.
- This will add a signature and timestamp to your comment so others can easily tell who posted it.

Hi there
Wanted to give you "the speech". A little talk about what and what not happens, maybe you could talk with darkid or other /nl people. But let's start at the beginning. I like you kid, you show some real potential, and you do a good job, a damn good job. So here is just a slight hint how you can do things a bit more efficient. So tak a look at this: Void Monk Hair /NL and this: Tribal Bones /NL. In short: Some language switch others not. Annnnd i have a question. Is it in /nl INGAME this way:
Level 1 Hoed ; or this way: Hoed Level 1 ? Just wanted to know that. In german it is "Name" Level 1 and not Level 1 "Name". Just let me know buddy. That is it, nice to have a little chat and all. δ³Σx² > Add + or - skills for me 20:03, 30 November 2012 (PST)
could you give me some advice?
Hello there, I saw you changed some things in my translations of #1 fan and archimedes (in nl) could you tell me what you fixed and what should be fixed? Maybe give me some hints? I started yesterday and it would be great if you could give me some directions on what I can improve on.
Thanks in advance Rafaeltheraven 10:56, 11 February 2013 (PST)
Hey.
Hey Eels. Don't take this the wrong way but I know that GIF images do not work inside the gallery. I was hoping people would be intelligent enough to click it themselves to see the working image. Thanks for doing your job, by the way.

Hey Eels, how do you work HLMV?
Everytime I try to open up a .MDL file, HLMV crashes on me. How do you do it? --Samuel Enthers 13:09, 22 March 2013 (PDT)
- Launch Source SDK (not Source SDK Base 2006 or Source SDK Base 2007), set current game to Team Fortress 2 and double click Model Viewer.
- Then click File → Load Model... → player → items → ...
- If it keeps crashing, you might want to verify your tool cache or perform a clean install.

Regarding translation
Hello Eels, thanks for your offer. I did in fact try to translate pages before. Unfortunately my knowledge of Romanian (even though it's my native language) isn't very formal. So I'm not sure I'd be suited for the job. Either way I might translate some pages over the summer. Since your profile comments are locked I figured I'd respond here. Thanks Eels for help me, you are the best :D

Someday I will have my revenge on you and when you finish translating something I will say "translation titles, Mr.Eels." and you will obey my commands like you were programmed to. Beep beep boop. Lumpy3 16:10, 16 May 2013 (PDT)
Understanding .VPK's
VPK files work a lot like the .GCF files that we are used to. However, the VPK files will initally appear as Steam Add-on Files, which are useless to us. To fix this, all we have to do is update .GCFscape and navigate to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf folder, and all of the SDA fies will convert into VPK files, like magic! You should be able to view, extract, and modify the files within the VPK's as long as you have the proper tools, the most useful being .VTFedit and HLMV.
You will be presented with a lot of VPK's when you navigate to the TF folder. Almost all of these are empty, and shouldn't be played with. The ones that contain files are as follows:
- tf2_misc_dir.vpk contains the particle files, map files, game models, and .VMT files. No .VTF's here.
- tf2_sound_misc_dir.vpk contains the world sound files, like crit sounds, weapon sounds, and music. There aren't any player voices, but the rest of the sound files are in the next directory:
- tf2_sound_vo_english_dir.vpk contains player voice files and responses, including the Mann vs. Machine robot sounds. Also contains boss sound files.
- tf2_textures_dir.vpk contains all of the .VTF files for everything in the game. No .VMT's here.
You use GCFscape to select which directory you want, just like a .GCF file. However, I personally suggest extracted all of the files to one folder for convienience sake.
If you have any questions, please ask me! --Samuel Enthers 04:41, 20 May 2013 (PDT)
- So if I want to open the new hats in HLMV, I would have to extract them and point SDK towards the directory I put them in? I can't seem to get HLMV set up for VPK's using Smashman's method. :/ : Eels 17:21, 20 May 2013 (PDT)
- Well what I did is extract all the files from the .VPK's to a single folder. I've also launched HLMV as a standalone program instead of with the SDK, so that you get the option to select .MDL files from anywhere. Instead of having to go through the old, outdated file browser HLMV comes with, you get the spiffy new Windows file browser (Unless you're using (Steam) load weapon)! If you launch HLMV as standalone, apply Smashman's fix, and extract all the files, you should be fine. But if there is still an issue, pictures would be nice! --Samuel Enthers 13:30, 21 May 2013 (PDT)
- Thanks for the help, it's greatly appreciated! <3

Saxton Hale needs you!
Yo Eels, the German version of your 'Saxton Hale needs you' image is rather...poorly translated ;) So I made a new one: http://bit.ly/Z8GG40 Feel free to use it. AgentBull(T|C) 11:05, 26 May 2013 (PDT)
- Heh, I originally had another translation, almost the same as you have, but then TheDoctor told me that THAT was poorly translated and proposed this one. Anyway, thanks for the effort :)

Unusual gallery
Hey Eels, I was going to update the gallery shortly after the update but my sfm somehow broke down. I recently fixed it and was going to add the missing images but it looks like someone beat me to it though.
Even though I left the sfm save file and the map I used here the guy who added the new effects didn't use it. I will probably have to remake the new effects at some point for the sake of consistency.
I could do some other graphic work if you point me to it (and if i'm not lazy). Error (Talk) (Contributions) 14:19, 1 June 2013 (PDT)

Hi !
My correction on the web page: http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Community_Spy_strategy/fr was correct.
--Poisson (talk) 10:15, 12 June 2013 (PDT)
- So was mine, to be honest. We meant something different and in my opinion mine was more relevant since yours says pretty much the same as the following sentence. Eels 10:27, 12 June 2013 (PDT)
Hey Eels
I wanted to thank you for the message with the useful tips and info you left for me, it helped quite a bunch!
And I also wanted to apologize for my first poor edits I made in the /nl part of the wiki, I'll make sure my future edits will have a much higher quality, and also thanks for correcting my mistakes by the way! :) Knalraap (talk) 17:38, 15 June 2013 (PDT)
- Conversations are usually kept on one talk page so I really hope you ever read this.
- I truly appreciate your good intentions and I hope you remain an active contributor to this Wiki. Too often have I seen fellow Belgians and Dutchmen join the Wiki, only to give up after a few days because it's either too hard or too much of a mess. I admit that when I first came here I thought the same, but as I pushed onward and picked out the things I wanted to do I gradually grew better at it and because of my studies I greatly enjoyed it as well. With the help of the people in the IRC I learned how to do pretty much everything here, from simple translations to elaborate templates. I grew so fond of it that I spent all of my free time (and even most of my time during lectures) doing stuff for the Wiki, simply because I enjoyed it so much more. I was recently nominated for a Wiki Cap and I can't possibly describe the happiness I felt that day. Not because I got a chance of getting a rare item, but simply because I knew people acknowledged my work. It feels great almost breaking the record of most backers and seeing how many people appreciate the things you do, mind you, and if you give it your best, I'm sure one day you'll be able to experience the same satisfaction.
- As to your edits: I must admit I was surprised about the quality of your first few translations. Of course they weren't amazing, but most people do way worse in the beginning. I plan on writing a list of fixed Wiki expressions for new /nl users soon, but as of now you'll just have to check other recent articles and do a bit of copy-pasting. The reason I'm saying "recent" here is because the older /nl pages are horrible. Not bad, not very bad, horrible. Feel free to update and/or completely rewrite these as I haven't got around to doing so myself yet.
- I'd like you to thoroughly read the links on your user page again and again and hopefully learn something from them. As a linguistics student, nothing agitates me more than compounds written apart, random capital letters, and most of all literal translations. This may sound weird but whatever you do, do not translate a sentence literally. Read the sentence, translate it in your head, make it sound like something you would say or write yourself, then write it. Feel free to use figures of speech and collocations and don't hesitate to fiddle around with punctuation; One sentence in English could be two or more in Dutch and vice versa.
- Please don't feel offended if I happen to correct the things you translate. I am by no means trying to tick you off, I'm just somewhat conceited when it comes to correctness.
- There is so much more I'd like to teach you and talk to you about but it's past 3AM and even though that's my most productive time of day (or night, hah), it's also the time when I make the most spelling/grammatical errors. If you have any questions whatsoever, feel free to join the IRC as I noticed you did earlier today (or yesterday). Even if I'm not around, there should be plenty of nice and helpful people there to assist you and help you out with whatever you're trying to do.
- Good luck and have a nice stay! Eels 18:19, 15 June 2013 (PDT)
I didn't plan on giving up after a few days because being an active contributor took more effort than I initially thought, I did some translating on another wiki a long time ago which I really enjoyed doing as well, sadly that wiki doesn't exists anymore. Congratulations on the nomination! I can certainly see why you were nominated, you're very helpful and got me motivated to stay, and who knows.. maybe I'll be in the same state of euphoria someday.
I'll read through the links again and again, I tend to avoid litteral translations as well but I can see I already made some unnecessary mistakes. Don't worry, I'm never offended by anyone who fixes my errors, I'd rather see the quality of the wiki improve instead of it being littered by my mistakes.
If I ever have questions and maybe even suggestions, I won't hesitate to contact you about them and you shouldn't hesitate to point out some mistakes to me, as small or big as they may be.
Anyways, thanks for the warm welcome and I hope that I can be an active contributor with some help :) Knalraap (talk) 08:08, 16 June 2013 (PDT)

- Why thank you my dear, it's much appreciated!
Hey there.
Thanks for the welcome :) I'd like to ask . With this new editing style thing. Is there an alignment button, because I feel like there might be one and I just haven't noticed it. I really need it since Arabic is read from the right to the left. If there isn't I guess I'll have to do it the old the way and type it out. I don't actually know it . I need the right + left ones. Thanks.
