Achievement progress is usually announced in appropriately sized blocks in the lower right of the screen. When you obtain an achievement, a trophy will appear briefly above your head. A short fanfare will also play and your achievement will be announced to the server. If enough of the appropriate achievements are obtained to meet an achievement milestone, the player may be awarded unlockable weapons and items. Certain achievements may also grant items upon completion. Completed achievements will be recorded on your steam profile.

Most achievements are readily available for completion (with the correct updates), though certain holiday-specific achievements may only be completed during special events.
