Team Fortress 2 Updates
Medals
Several medals created by community contributors are to be awarded to participants of endorsed community events. However, these medals have not been officially mentioned by Valve. The reason for their delay is due to technology currently being tested. [1]
Mapper's Medallion
The Mapper's Medallion is a special medal created by Lord Ned of TF2maps.net in order to congratulate the participants of the Art Pass contest. This medal is similar to the Polycount Pin as it will only be available to those who entered the competition.
Pubbers vs Pros Medal
The Pubbers vs Pros Medal is a misc item created by Lord Ned of TF2Maps.net to reward to the participants of the Pubstars vs Pros event. This medal is similar to the Polycount Pin as it will only be available to those who compete within the event.
ETF2L Highlander Community Challenge, UGC Highlander, ESL 6on6 League and ozfortress Ultiduo5 Medals
Twelve medals are to be added to the game and given to participants and winners of the ETF2L Highlander Community Challenge, UGC Highlander, ESL 6on6 League and the ozfortress Ultiduo5 when the tournaments end. Currently, it has been confirmed that there are a first place, second place, third place, and participant medal that will become available for the first three tournaments' entrants; however, only a winner and runner-up medal (designed by Valve) will be issued to winners of Ultiduo5.
Unreleased Items
Certain evidence of unreleased items can be found in the game files. It is unclear why they have not been released as of yet.
Firstly, a community-contributed hat known as the Legionaire's Lid (according to the tf_english.txt file) exists in the GCF, complete with description.
In the December 23, 2010 Patch, tf_english.txt strings for a new Demoman shield, known as the Heraldic Targe, and Gadget Tokens were revealed. Robin Walker announced that the Gadget Tokens was "an experiment we tested internally, but didn't like enough to ship," so the Gadget Tokens may never be released.
Large Scale Performance Update
Shortly after the Mann-Conomy Update, Robin Walker discussed in an email with one of the community contributors a future performance update in the works which would replace all W (World) and V (View) models with the new C (Combination) model type, as well as update existing C models and the new C models with LODs. This update would significantly increase performance and allow for a greater range of community and Valve item replacements in later updates. In the updates released since this email was sent, a sizable portion of the game's C models have received LODs. Many more, however, are still to come.
Training Mode for the remaining classes
The Scout, Pyro, Heavy, Medic, and Sniper Training modes are to be released in a future update.
Second Miscellaneous Item Slot
During the Summer Sale announcement on the Team Fortress 2 website, Valve noted that there was promotional artwork of Scout wearing two miscellaneous items at the same time. In response to this, they said,
"Note: The Scout is shown equipped with TWO miscellaneous slot items. We realize this is currently IMPOSSIBLE. After firing the artist responsible, we are now working on making that artist's vision a reality."
Other
Unreleased Meet the Team videos
There is one unreleased Meet the Team video expected for release, Meet the Pyro. As revealed in an interview with Robin Walker by the podcast Kritzkast, Meet the Pyro will be a look at the world through the Pyro's eyes.
Source Filmmaker
- Main article: Source Filmmaker
Source Filmmaker is the name of the tool used to create the Meet the Team videos, the Left 4 Dead intro movies, and other Valve-produced clips. It has not yet been officially released, though it was leaked.
Others Polycount contest entries
Valve initially selected five entries from the Polycount Contest out of a total of 76. Robin Walker has stated that nearly half of the entries were of high enough quality to be put in-game, and Valve has since implemented an additional six entries.[1][2][3] All of the entries can be located here.
Contribution Site Gallery
Valve stated they would release a way to view all user submitted content before they were implemented into the game (or not)[citation needed]. It is unknown when this feature will be available. A Gallery for Avatars only has since been released. However a gallery for hats and weapons has yet to be made.
