Engineer vs Scout rework
Here, I've reworked the Engineer guide to dealing with Scouts (In the improved class specific strategy at the botton of the page), is this the writing style your looking for? Lolimsogreat21 (talk) 19:35, 30 April 2021 (UTC)Lolimsogreat21
- And I've just rewritten the Scout vs Scout, what do you say? (And also, sorry for bothering you so much) Lolimsogreat21 (talk) 21:43, 30 April 2021 (UTC)Lolimsogreat21
- I'd say you're fine. The current entries for Engineer and Scout as anti-Scout sets a great format for the match-up pages, wherein we'll split each table section into Main advantage ("Advantage and disadvantages?"), Strategy, and Loadout ("Useful weapons?"). I'm grateful that you're bringing in this detailed information - taking care of info first, style second is an option. -- InShane (talk) 16:06, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
Is done
Here, the third edition of anti-Scout matchups is done, what do you say? Lolimsogreat21 (talk) 13:57, 11 May 2021 (UTC)Lolimsogreat21
- I see it all! I'm preparing a template change over at https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/User:InShane/sandbox. We're going straight into changing the existing tables to implement your format. It's a huge upgrade in terms of conveying information. My next free moment is this weekend. I'll update the match-up template, get the new template and links working on the 9 pages, and spread the existing entry as skeleton information until details are prepared. I'll also transfer your entries into the Scout section. This way, the existing style stays while we slowly transition into the new format. -- InShane (talk) 19:45, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
- So...we will transfer everything into a table? Lolimsogreat21 (talk) 20:41, 11 May 2021 (UTC)Lolimsogreat21
- The existing table with new rows that match your sections, to be specific. -- InShane (talk) 20:46, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
- Welp, I guess that I'll start moving the information from this page in the table you've created.
- Please don't. That's going to replace a template, which will make entry easier. I can handle the moving. I've gotta do it all at once, otherwise we'regoing to have some null pointers. InShane (talk) 23:11, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
- Allright then, I won't transfer anythig. To be fair, I was suprised that you have decided to put this information in a table, so I think that I can shorten the information a bit further in order for it to actually fit.

P.S. I will be taking a small break this weekend so don't expect much from me.
- It's all good. You've done a ton of work so far, so I want to support you. My idea behind putting your info into the edited table was to let your work be the first thing seen on the match-up pages. After this weekend, I'd like your input on the result. I'll shorten some parts, then you can change things appropriately. -- InShane (talk) 00:15, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
Funny story about breaking things...
Heyo Lol. I went and tried changing the class match-ups template to a 3-row table. My changes worked, but then I realized the vast number of pages that actually use that template - all of our translations! Changing the template adds my variables like {{{scout-weapons}}} to all other languages' pages, to which I am not equipped to handle. Que lastima.
Sooo...no template change, an unfortunate case of the template being 10 years old and having so many pages relying on it. Your information still fits in the single table appropriately - check this out? This is how I shortened your Scout vs. Scout.

My new plan is to sandbox each class's page into those 3 sections, one at a time. Are you willing to approach other classes from a "one vs. all" match-ups rather than the "all vs. one" anti-class you currently have? We can maintain sandboxes for the 9 classes - I'm starting with the Scout's, working my way down his 9 match-ups.

- Ahh, so this is how your trying approach this "project" of ours (Is it a project?). I still don't quit understand what makes your writing style so different then my, but it's a lot more better... So, I guess that I have to try and mimic your style in order to get my guides into your's tables...oh well.
- Anyway, I presume that you are now going to shorten the rest of my anti-Scout strategy guides in order to make them "table ready". I was planning to continue work on the anti-enginner strategy, but I will take some time to continue experimenting on the anti-Scout strategy insted (Starting from the bottom), this way I will hopefully learn to write the way you do.
- As for the choice between the "one vs all" or "all vs one", that comes down to what we choose to make out of this strategy guides. If these strategy guides get inserted into the anti-class pages, the we will use the "all vs one". But if these guides go into the class matchup pages, then the "one vs all" template will be used.
- Thats that for today, excuse my grammar mistakes if I made any. Lolimsogreat21 (talk) 22:34, 14 May 2021 (UTC)Lolimsogreat21
- With the hours we put in, this is definitely a project! I believe your writing style is good for casually conveying the nuances of TF2's metagame. If there's anything to focus on for wiki work, it would be keeping entries short for short Internet attention spans. Writing style is definitely something that develops as we write more. If you want something to snicker at, check out my edits on the basic strategy pages from my start - I got into a similar tussle about my past style! It helps that my eventual professions - software engineer (with plenty of documentation) and teacher - required a lot of writing that people less "technically adept" than me could understand.
- You're going for an ambitious update for all 9 classes - that's why I feel there's potential. Usually, the typical editor goes for one class-specific entry that ends up in community strategy. This is a good chance to update the match-up pages, wherein your work would be far more often viewed than what appears in community strategy. You starting this project prompted me to spend free time browsing the pages' history and casual competitive talk on, heh, YouTube and Reddit - everything I've missed for a few years (Big fan of r/truetf2 now), so I can back that all your info is good.
- If it helps you, take the info in the match-up pages for a certain match-up as a base. Now that the school year is wrapping up, I also don't mind if you're fine with me doing the shortening.
