On-going tasks
These are the tasks that are on-going maintenance work, or which are part of on-going projects that will take a significant period of time to complete.
For staff members
The following tasks can only be carried out by staff members.
Marked for deletion
These categories should normally be empty. Any articles in these categories are deletion requests and should be checked out. All sub-categories should be checked and if the criteria have been met then the article(s) should be deleted.
For all users
The following tasks can be carried out by all users.
Requested moves
This category should normally be empty. Any articles in this category are requests for articles to be moved. If the criteria have been met then the article should be moved and the template removed.
Partake in active discussions
Partake in the active discussions regarding articles or files to decide what action should be taken towards them - used for listing discussions regarding merging, moving, or deleting articles - and "other" discussions requiring user input. Sometimes also used to remind users of certain things.
Give your opinions on articles marked for open review
Articles that have been marked for open review should be checked, and your feedback is appreciated. Articles marked as such may have conflicting or disputed contents which need attention and we prefer to discuss these articles with the community before making any decisions.
Add to articles listed as Stubs
Stubs are articles which are usually too short and need additional content. If you believe you have added enough content, even if the article is not finished, remove the {{Stub}}
from the article.
Clean up articles
The great thing about Team Fortress Wiki is that anyone can contribute. The downside to this is that articles can become messy and the contents may not be easy to read. Readers should be presented with articles that are a 'good read' and easily flow between one another. To bring some consistency to the wiki, the Team Fortress Wiki style guide was introduced and should be followed when cleaning up articles.
Check recent uploads
All uploads should be tagged with an appropriate license, or marked for deletion (as appropriate). If you are unsure about which license should be applied, use the tag {{unknown}}
and ask the uploader to fill in the correct details via their talk page.
Add categories to any uncategorized pages, images, and categories
You will need to familiarize yourself with our categorization scheme first. Note that the Category:Main, Category:Team Fortress Wiki, and Category:Languages are our three top-level categories and should remain uncategorized themselves.
Recent changes patrol
Check through the list of recent changes (particularly new pages and new account edits) to catch vandalism/spam. If existing pages are vandalized, then the changes should be reverted. If new junk pages are created, they should be marked for deletion. If edits don't follow the Style guide, they should be reverted and said editor should receive guidance.
Create missing category pages
Check the list of missing categories, and check whether the articles in the category are in the right place. If not, update the category links on the article(s) in question. If they are, then add a category page, ensuring that you categorize it so it shows up in the right place in the tree. For non-English categories, copy the categories from the English version, i.e. if Category:Weapons has Category:Items and Category:Gameplay, then Category:Weapons/ja should have the same (but /ja versions).
Fix orphaned pages
Pages that haven't been linked to will show up as orphaned. No pages should exist that do not have links from other articles because readers will have no way to find them. If the contents of the articles listed as orphaned are useful, find a related article and create a link to it. If the contents are not useful, they should be marked for deletion using one of the deletion templates. Note: Red-linked pages will show up as orphaned. As these pages may well be reused, there is no need to mark these pages for deletion.
Fix dead-end pages
Opposite to orphaned pages, dead-end pages have no links from them which means readers will have nowhere to go but back. Pages showing in the list should be updated to provide links out of the article; if the contents are not useful or old, they should be also be marked for deletion using one of the deletion templates.
Images that need improving
If you are good with HLMV and Photoshop, there are a number of images that need general improvements in this category. See also Team Fortress Wiki:Images.
Articles needing images
Similarly to images that need improving, there are lots of articles that need images related to HLMV and Photoshop. Other than that, there are plenty of other images needed, as determined by the notice notes. See also Team Fortress Wiki:Images.
Submit articles to be a 'featured article'
If you come across a particularly good article on the wiki, you can nominate it to become a 'featured article'. Once the nomination process has been completed, and if there are no objections, the article will be displayed on the main page.
Contribute to the Weapon Demonstration project
The Weapon Demonstration project's goal is to build a complete library of videos demonstrating the various aspects of all weapons, game mechanics, tools, taunts and some cosmetics in Team Fortress 2. Anyone that meets the requirements could make a demonstration video that is needed or need to be redone. Visit the project page for more information.
Help out with the 3D Models project
The 3D Models project aims to create pseudo-3D images of items which can be freely rotated.
For translators
If you are new to the wiki and just beginning to translate, see Language translation for a better introduction.
Translate the main page
The main page should be the gateway to the rest of the wiki's content in your language. See Main page layout to translate elements of the main page layout. There are also subtemplates which hold current events ({{Current Events}}
), featured article ({{FeaturedArticle}}
), and 'Did you know' ({{Did you know main}}
).
Translate a heap of pages
The main important thing. If you can't find pages to translate, start with the most important ones first: Class pages (Scout, Soldier, etc.) -> Hats/Weapons -> Gameplay.
Retranslate any outdated pages
See Pages requiring retranslation. Pages in this category have been tagged because they differ significantly from the English page, however, the list is not complete.
Translate templates that use translation switching
Here is a full list of translatable templates. Be sure to read the guide on this as well. There is also a list of templates that do not have any translations added yet here.
Task requests
If there are any general tasks that need doing – but which you either don't have the time, skill, or user-rights to perform them – then please list your request under the appropriate section here, and sign it with your name and date.
