Taunt demonstrations can take a while to finish. Do not give up on making one! This guide (will) be made to help you complete one!

Welcome

Hello! This is a page for demonstration tips, mainly for taunt demonstrations, although some tips here may still apply to weapon and pyroland demonstrations. Currently this page is not linked on my profile, but will be linked once it is finished and when I am more confident with demonstrations.

Set up

To get prepared for demonstrations, please first read the weapon demonstration guide. The weapon demonstration guide has lots of useful information for getting started. However the guide only has instructions for setting up, recording a weapon demonstration, editing, and submission, this is still a lot but it does not cover some of the other parts of set up and other types of demonstrations. Some reminders when setting up:

  • Download the weapon ref folder and extract it with 7zip or WinRAR into tf/custom
  • Send all other mods you have in your tf/custom folder to another location when recording
  • Type "map tr_karma" into the console to load the demonstration map
  • Make sure all graphical settings in options are at medium or higher
  • Once the map and server are ready, join Blu team and type "exec weaponref" in console
  • Type "hud_reloadscheme" to make sure the hud is clear and ready for the demonstration

If done correctly, you should be on BLU team with the default hud in the demonstration room. Anytime you want to record a demonstration, these steps should be done.

Recording software

You will have to choose a recording software to record any part of the demonstration video. There are many options you can choose from to record your demonstration, some of the options you have are:

Personally I use Game Bar because you can record anytime without having to open an extra program, and it doesn't affect game performance too much.

Recording loadout preview

Once you have set up, disconnect from the server. (Later on you'll go back to tr_karma to record) After you disconnect, you should be on the main menu, from here you can click the items button, choose a class loadout, and select loadout A. After you have selected loadout A, clear out all other items, taunts, and cosmetics you may have on that are not related to your demonstration. Once clearing out other items, go to the taunt menu of that class loadout and select the taunt you are demonstrating, you should see the class performing the taunt you selected. If your taunt has a set start and end to the animation, start the recording, equip the taunt and hover over the taunt with your cursor, and once the taunt animation ends, stop the recording. Once done, the recording should start with the animation playing while the cursor is over the taunt, and it should end when the animation stops. You can see some examples from the wiki channel itself such as the Profane Puppeteer, the Fubar Fanfare, the Soldier's Requiem, and many more. If you are demonstration a looping taunt, start recording when the taunt begins and while your cursor is over the taunt, and end the recording when the animation starts repeating again. Some examples for taunts like these are the Bare Knuckle Beatdown, the Drunken Sailor, the Scotsmann's Stagger, and of course many more. Once you have recorded your loadout preview, you're ready for the next part of the demonstration.
