The Pile of Ash is an item that can be crafted from four incinerated remnants of the mysterious treasures. When it is used, it opens the same way as a Mann Co. Store Package and yields a single Scorched Crate and/or one of the Pyromania weapons or cosmetic items. According to the in-game description, the Pile of Ash will disappear on 7/11/2012.

Using
If you select the Pile of Ash in your backpack and use it, you will receive a Scorched Crate. You also have a chance of finding a unique item from the Pyromania Update such as:
