The Ninjaneer
General
The Ninjaneer (Derived from the combination of terms ninja and Engineer) is an alternative play style for the Engineer. Unlike Engineer who stays in the back line of his team and focuses on supporting his team by building Sentry guns for area denial, Dispensers for Health and Ammo replenishment and Teleporters for quick transportation of his team mates to the front lines, the play style of the Ninjaneer usually involves sneaking into the enemies back lines and setting up Sentry nests and other things to confuse and catch the enemy of guard. While he is behind the enemy lines, the Ninjaneer will set up Sentry guns (these Sentry guns set up behind enemy lines are commonly called the "funny Sentries") in unexpected spots to catch enemies who will be making they're way to the front lines of guard as they would be thinking that they are safe in they're back line. It isn't uncommon for the Ninjaneer to set up entire Sentry nests behind the enemy and to start teleporting his own team mates to his location. In this case, the enemy team finds itself in a confusing situation as while they were fighting on the front lines an entire army of hostiles suddenly sprung up behind them.
Strategy
The place style of an Ninjaneer isn't paticulary effective, even if you, a rather slow moving class with no stealth capabilities somehow manage to get yourself behind enemy lines the amount of damage you could inflict on your enemies is rather minimal, you may get a few kills with your "funny Sentry gun" but its a matter of time before your enemy catch up to you and kill you. However, if played right, this play style can be effective and a skilled Ninjaneer can become a serious problem for the enemy he is sneaking behind. The main goal of an Ninjaneer should be to try and distract as much enemies as possible and draw them to try and deal with him instead of focusing on the front lines and doing the objective.
Sneaking behind
In order to become a Ninjaneer one must sneak behind the enemy lines first, however this is easier said then done, as mentioned earlier, you have an average speed meaning that unlike Scout who can quickly run past the enemy to get to they're back lines you are unable to do that, you also don't have any cloaking abilities like the Spy making sneaking by the enemy even harder. But you do an unique trick up your sleeve witch can be used to get you to the enemy back line even better, faster and safer then Scouts speed or Spies cloak could ever dream of. You have a Teleporter, which in theory can be used to teleport you directly to the enemy back line in an instant, the problem with this is that you first need to go to the enemy back line and place a Teleporter exit your self in order to use, this once again loops back to the original problem of getting past the enemy front lines in the first place. But there is actually a way to "get" behind the enemy lines using the teleporter without sneaking past the front line. When playing an attack/defense map or a Payload map, before the round begins and the Setup time ends, a Red Engineer (Ninjaneer) can place a Teleporter exit in a hidden area so that he can use it for later, this Teleporter exit won't be used for its primary purpose of quickly transporting the Ninjaneers teammates to the front lines, in fact, it will be an inactive teleporter so that it can be concealed as best as possible, since the round hasn't even started and the enemy (in this case the Blu team]]) has yet to leave the spawn allowing the Ninjaneer to safely put down the "sneaky Teleporter" in his desired spot. After the round has begun and the Blu team has pushed out of they're spawn the frontline should slowly start advancing forward. After some time has passed, the area in which the Ninjaneer's "sneaky Teleporter" has been placed is no longer apart of a front line but it is now apart of the Blu teams back line since the front line should have advanced further up leaving the Teleporter behind it. Now that the Ninjaneer has a teleporter behind the enemy, he can use it to get behind the enemy lines. To do this he simply need to build a Teleporter entrance to make the Teleporter active and go through it to find himself behind the enemy lines. In order execute this method of getting to the enemy's back line, the Ninjaneer has to be on the Red team and be playing an Attack/Defend or a Payload map to be able to place his teleporter exit before the round starts. If the Ninjaneer is on the Blu team or simply isn't playing a map with a setup time then he won't be able to use this method and will have to resort to the old fashioned way of manually sneaking past the enemy's front line.
Disrupting the enemy
Now that the Ninjaneer is behind the enemy lines he can start doing some work. There are two ways to "Ninjaneer", one way is to build an entire sentry nest behind the enemy and eventually start teleporting friendly team mates, the other way is to teleport behind and not build anything, but instead act as a Scout who will suddenly pop out of of nowhere, shoot some people, and quickly disappear without a trace.
- If your going for the first option, then I recommend that before taking the Teleporter behind the enemy lines, you first construct and fully upgrade you Sentry gun, and then take the Sentry gun with you through the Teleporter to the enemy back line. If your going on cheeky "funny sentry" kills on unsuspecting enemies then make sure you move your gun to a different location every few kills, when you fool someone by killing them with a Sentry they weren't expecting to be there the first they're first thought would be to get revenge and destroy you and your Sentry by going to the location they died and destroying the Sentry now that they know where it is, so keep the enemy on they're toes by constantly moving the Sentry's location.
- If your going for the other play style then using the Eureka Effect is a requirment, the Eureka Effect gives you an unique ability to teleport between your spawn and your teleporter exit wherever you are and whenever you want. Using the Eureka Effect you'r play style should go like this: Telport behind the enemy lines, kill some unsuspecting victims using your Shotgun, cause as much commotion and confusion, when the enemy team starts getting a hold of you, use the Eureka Effects ability to teleport to you spawn room and replenish you health and ammo, teleport again to you Telporter exit and repeat the process.
