Addition?

Just wondering since I cannot edit this page, should it be added that "it is currently unknown how this hat is obtained"? Or have I just missed something? I have no idea. Zombie James 08:31, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

• The whole freaking point of having a Wiki hat is to attract more contributors, and that's what it's doing. Not everyone who has signed up recently are morons, we actually have a lot more good editors now. In the future they are the ones who will get the hat, not people who just post their Steam URL and be done with it, nor others who are just curious about how you even get the hat in the first place; seriously, look at the Wiki Cap article. You wouldn't be able to know how to obtain one just by looking at it. You could only know by reading this entire talk page. Taking a stance against new editors who are "just here for the hat" does not increase your chances of getting a hat yourself. How I feel about the Wiki Cap

I've got something say about this whole mess.
Look, fact of the matter is (to me anyway) that if you came here for a stupid hat, you're here for the wrong reasons. Some of us contribute a lot, some of us only a little, but we all contribute something and we don't do it for a damn hat. I don't want a hat. I want to keep the wiki up to date with correct information. Why? Because I want it to be that way. I use this wiki along with everyone else.
Unlike other wikis I've been members of, though, I've rarely had to fix any pages. Rarely do I have to correct information or revert an edit. And this is concerning. It seems people are coming in here just editing pages now putting in bad information and then correcting it themselves or letting other people correct it to seem like wiki contributors to get this freaking cap?
I took a unanimous vote, and decided those people can Jarate right off. Smashman, this hat I think has ruined the wiki for those users who are here to keep the wiki up to date and correct. It's become a pain in the ass for the rest of us. I'd like to see the hat renamed to "Community Contributor Cap" and given to those who help out the community, being forum administrators and the heads of this wiki and everyone else out there who has done a damn good job in helping out the community like Diamao and Royzo and even Drunkenf00l for TF2items.com
In conclusion, f-bomb this hat.

You get right! It's pleasure to help people know something about the game. But some guys think that it's pleasure to wear wiki hat that they got not by honest way! I disagree with Seb, Pilk. Of all the time I've been on the wiki I've had to correct and fix more shit than usual since the update came out because people are doing dumb edits, and I see a lot more of the users having to fix edits of things that are misspelled and incorrect and just blatant lies. And if you think I made this post to get a hat, you're a jerk. I already stated I don't want one, and I think there are people out there more deserving of such a thing than I. I would just like to say, that I recently joined up to help out with the Wiki in general. I've added a few trivia facts, and tried to fix grammar. I even contributed a little on the old TF2wiki website before it became official. Please don't throw all us new editors under the bus. I really do want to help; it bothers me immensely when I go into a wiki and see false information, and I can change it now. Please, let me try to help. Same page here mate. I'm capable of doing little to actually add pages, but I do what I can to clear up misconceptions, add details that might've been missed, or (especially) include helpful trivia and strategies for other people to see. Just like with Highlander, I came here because I thought the item would be a good excuse to do my part and get involved, and I've found it to be quite enjoyable to notice things other people have missed and to tidy things up. I was actually unaware there was such a hat until people started talking about it. I was thinking it was some kind of joke for someone who edited the wiki a ton or something, but I look at the tf2items list, and sure enough, it's there. I don't really know how to feel about it, seeing how I've the hats I really want. I just want to make sure to add information that may be useful to readers (Though at times, it's not). If they really want to reward editors with a hat, then I've no qualms, but I feel it to be unnecessary. Not to mention it acts as bait for people to just join for the cap and all that. This just proves it. There are plenty of editors who are not totally interested in the Cap and would rather just work on improving the quality of articles. Anyone who decides to judge others' intentions solely because their signup date coincided with the release of a hat have missed completely the entire point of the hat's introduction and in my mind are utterly undeserving of one themselves. seb26 [talk] 05:09, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

Well said, seb. It's comforting to know that the veterans of the Wiki feel that way. As a new member, one of the first things that happened to me after a couple of edits was Firestorm complementing me. Regardless of the fact that I was a new member who only started editing after the update, he did, to a certain degree, acknowledge that my edits were worthwhile. How welcoming you guys are is part of the reason I am going to stick around and help the Wiki. I'm not going to pretend that every new user has intentions that are as innocent as mine, but the fact that there isn't a generalization of new users among the old crowd is very reassuring. -- Alex2539 05:31, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
