Trade-Up refers to a feature that allows players to trade multiple unwanted items in their backpack for a chance at receiving a new, possibly better item. It is applicable only in specific situations.
Contents
Item Grade Trade-Up
Available only for items that have a designated Grade, Item Grade Trade-Up allows players to exchange ten Decorated weapons or certain cosmetic items of one grade for an item of the next higher grade. It is accessible via a sub-menu in the backpack, either through inspecting a valid Trade-Up item, an empty space in the backpack, or the Soul Gargoyle.
Trade-Up requires ten weapons or cosmetics of the same grade. Weapons may be of any exterior wear, but must all be of the same grade (Civilian, Freelance, Mercenary, etc.). Strange items may also be accepted, although Unusual items are prohibited.
After confirming the input of the required number of items, the player receives one item of the next higher grade. The resulting item is selected at random from one of the same collection(s) as the originating items; submitting multiple items from a single collection will guarantee receiving an item from the next higher grade of that collection. If all submitted items were Strange, then the output is also Strange. For example, if 8 Space Hamster Hammys, 1 Burstchester, and 1 Cold Case are selected, then the result will be an elite grade item from either the Confidential Collection Case or the Blue Moon Cosmetics Collection. However, the result will most likely be from the Confidential Collection Case because there are more items from that crate.
In the case of Decorated weapons, the exterior wear of the received weapon is the same as the wear of one of the items from the same collection. For example, inputting one Battle Scarred, one Well-Worn, one Field-Tested, one Minimal Wear, and six Factory New items from the same collection will result in a random wear on the output item, however, it will have a higher chance to be Factory New since there were more Factory New items in the trade up. If the trade-up had five Battle Scarred skins from the Pyroland Collection and five Factory New skins from the Warbird Collection the wear on the output item will be Factory New if it's from the Warbird Collection and Battle Scarred if from Pyroland.

Trivia
- On the original file for the Trade-Up Menu image, there is a list of alternative text to feature in the yellow arrow:[1]
- "If you aren't 100% satisfied with your products, you can take it up with my bare hands!"
- "If you aren't 100% satisfied with, you never will be! You will never know love! I guarantee it!"
- "Tired of being disappointed with the same old stuff? Trade them in for something new to be disappointed with!"
- "If you aren't 100% satisfied with ten our our products, why not be unsatisfied with just one? Save time!" "We stand behind every weapon we sell! So once you get rid of them all, I'll be standing there, and I'll be furious!"
- "Are you man enough to take full advantage of mann co.'s trade-up policy? I doubt it!"
- "If you aren't 100% satisfied with our products, I will 100% satisfy you... with my bare hands! Wait, Bidwell, don't write that one down."
- "If you aren't 100% satisfied with my products, let's see how you satisfied you are(sic) when my foot is 100% up your ass!"
- "If you aren't 100% satisfied with our products, why not trade them in? Stop dreaming about it and do it, you coward!"
- "If you're not man enough to handle ten weapons, I will take them off your hands and give you one in return!"
- "Trade in your crap for new crap! Or don't ! Either way you are a dead man, I promise you!"
- "Give me ten guns, I will give you one back! This is the best last deal I will give you!"
- "If you aren't 100% satisfied with your guns, I will tear you limb from limb and take them for myself!"
- "This may look like recycling, but it is not! We will feed your old guns to a dolphin until it chokes to death! Dolphins do not eat guns!"
- An alternate menu can also be found, which contains mostly the same text, but with the "Take your GEAR to a NEW TIER!" text replaced with "How Joe's GUNS brought him FAME instead of SHAME", and instead of a quote it says:[2]
- Do you lay awake at night, wondering what Mann Co(sic) products you could have used to kill your enemies? Wonder no more. Convert your dreams into cold steel reality with this simple program.
Send me 10 items that I can feed to my band of mercenary orphans and in return I may send you 1 good gun.
Mailing this coupon could be the turning point in your life. See your enemies driven before you - in style - with rare and exciting new Mann Co. weaponry.
If you don't like the deal you can take it up with my fists.
- Do you lay awake at night, wondering what Mann Co(sic) products you could have used to kill your enemies? Wonder no more. Convert your dreams into cold steel reality with this simple program.
