POW! Ha ha!
The Heavy

Upon taunting with the Fists equipped, the Heavy mimics a quick-draw Pistol Showdown, resulting in crippling pain and/or death for anyone slow, unaware or simply unfortunate enough to actually be hit by it. Unlike the Hadouken, this move cannot be used to destroy buildings. It is necessary to kill someone using the Showdown taunt to gain the Show Trial achievement. The taunt can still be used during Humiliation, to kill the winning team members as they come barreling into your spawn, and during a Stalemate, when the two enemy teams meet and spam taunts at each other. The taunt animation exists in the 360 and PS3 versions of the game but does not cause any damage.

Community testing has found that the range at which this taunt will kill is actually pretty respectable for such a situational attack. The taunt can (and will) kill people who are standing the equivalent of 9 players (of any class) away from the Heavy performing the taunt (horizontally), and its vertical range is approximately the distance between the ground level and second floor ceiling of 2Fort, giving it the longest range of all the taunt attacks by far. However, due to the taunt's straight line of fire, it is still difficult to kill someone with it, and so it should not be considered a serious strategy, unless used against enemies that are distracted, and standing still, such as a scoped Sniper and a Heavy firing. It may be used in most melee only servers or games, making the Heavy the only class with any amount of range in melee.

Trivia

  • The sound clip used for Showdown is heavy_niceshot02, one of the Heavy's three sound bytes for the "Nice Shot!" vocal command.
  • There used to be 3 different ways the Heavy presented this taunt, shouting "POW! Haha!", silently, and with a short, high-pitched laugh, before the taunt was converted into an attack.
  • This is the only ranged attack in the game with unlimited ammo (not counting how the Sandman regenerates the ball it launches over time, or the Jarate's regeneration).
  • Unlike most other taunt attacks, Showdown does not hit based on the enemy player's position relative to the taunt animation- to hit, the target must be on the line indicated by the Heavy's crosshairs at the start of the taunt. As a result, the taunt can be aimed in any direction, including straight up or down. The Engineer taunt Organ Grinder is the only other taunt that functions this way.
  • The range of this taunt is equivalent to approximately 9 Heavies in a line.
