A "Latest Beta Patch" Tracker for Front Page
I feel that it would be a good idea if, on the front page next to the "Latest Patch" and "Latest Blog Post," we had a link to the archive of the beta patch notes as soon as Valve begins pushing patches through in the near future. Besides, there's quite a bit of extra space there, and I feel quite a few people will come looking for it inevitably. Kanosea 10:37, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Can We Change the Random Page Link on the Navigation Bar on the Left?
Whenever I click the "Random Page" link on the left it usually brings up a random page in a language that isn't English. This frustrates me as an English user and I'm sure it also frustrates people who speak a different language like French to click the random page link and receive a link in Japanese. Is there any way we can have language-specific random page links? <font color="Purple">MR SLIN</font> 13:04, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Why isn't there a wiki "rules" section in the navigation bar on the left?
This place is missing a guide that lists things that you shouldn't do on this wiki, like deleting posts and whatnot. I find it odd that it isn't immediately searchable or findable in one FAQ page or similar. (nanosheep_inc) 03:36, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

:We have Help in the navigation for that information.  Personally, I think Rules implies users will be punished if they do not abide by our guidelines, however us staff and the guidelines are here to help new users get into the practises and procedures we abide by here - not punish those who make mistakes. However as you never made the connection that Help would list our guidelines, I wouldn't be surprised if other contributors haven't made that connection either; so I think we would have to do something to make that clearer. -<span class="burbg" style="margin-right:1px;text-shadow: #538237 1px 1px 0px;">RJ</span>Sta 17:51, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Sandman Wall Glitch
I don't know if this has been posted before but i found this glitch ingame. While using the Sandman's baseball, run back and forth toward a wall while hitting the ball. Make sure to go straight and to keep the ball going in a straight line towards the wall. It might take awhile but it should eventually "disappear". To see what actual happens go to a glass wall and do it. What you'll see is that it goes straight through the wall and still hurts an enemy. --Delterz 04:08, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Do we need an Arabic section of the wiki?
"Languages supported officially by the game are supported here. There are a few exceptions, however: Czech and Portuguese (Brazil) are supported by the Steam Translation Server, however, do not yet have TF2 localization files. Arabic has neither, however, will remain supported."

If Arabic has neither Steam Translation Server support, or sound/text support in TF2, this means that:

*The amount of Arabic TF2 players who solely speak Arabic is very low, as Team Fortress 2 is geared towards the officially-supported languages.

*The amount of people who are able to translate the English wiki into Arabic are not easily found.

And as a result, the Arabic wiki is one of the wikis most desperately in need of content. It is missing basic essential articles, such as class pages and weapons.

In any other situation I would suggest finding more contributors, but in Arabic's case I wonder if it's worth it. Who would the Arabic wiki be made for, the one (yes, only one contributor) person who is actively translating it?

Your insight would be appreciated.

FlotsamX 23:57, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

: I really don't think it is worth keeping up an Arabic section of this website. However, if that person is willing to put the time into doing so then let him do it. Then again, he's probably just doing it to rack up edits and since nobody else here speaks Arabic there is nobody to verify whether or not he is writing legitimate things...Misterslin 15:28, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

::Delete I don't want to sound like a jerk, but the facts are that we might not need it, we don't have the resources to put it together properly, and we have no way of ensuring quality info. Whether this lone user is making stuff up or legitimately contributing, all translators should have a working understanding of English. That means that even if we shut down the Arabic pages, he should still be able to contribute in a meaningful way. ::Keep Hello guys, I'm Alsoodani, the translator for the Arabic section. Traditionally, most game companies do not have official game translation for Arabic.  The market for Arabic speaking countries is diverse. Many do not have access to offer official products from outside. Many of you are asking What is the point of having an Arabic section if no one uses it? On the contrary, there are many Arabic users on the internet who play Valve games including Team Fortress 2! I have visited my home country Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Morocco, the UAE, Syria, and Lebanon. They all have sparse, but growing gaming communities! As for what got me to do this: I am currently living in a dorm with Arabic exchange students helping them out and generally translating for them (I double major in Arabic and Nueroscience) who don't speak a lick of good English. What got me started on this project was that they happen to play Steam games as well (mainly Counter-Strike, but they do play TF2) and the amount of information available online for Arabic-speaking gamers is very, very limited (if you don't count broken Google Translations). As a wiki contributer and as a student working on his Arabic Major I feel it is my duty to help out. I repeat, This effort is not being wasted.

::For a general (very general) sample on the number of forums discussing Team Fortress 2 Check out this Google Search filtering only Arabic pages shown discussing Team Fortress 2: Google Link Once the front page and the major articles are established, instead of our Arabic-speaking Team Fortress 2 brethren cluelessly playing the game, they will have information at the Official Team Fortress 2 wiki! For those debating about my credentials or the accuracy of the actual Arabic, I am currently partially majoring in Arabic and am a senior in college. For those wondering if there will be more contributes, I have only started this project for a month. There will be more translators. For those, who think I am doing this for petty reasons such as "wracking up edits", I say to you: I translate whole pages one by one and there is currently approx. 1000 pages of English. That would mean if I translated everything, it would only be a mere apporx. 1000 edits. That is not a substantial amount to "wrack up" anything. It would be foolish to do so.

:: I feel that it is strange that I must defend a top spoken language in the world that is even spoken more than most of the supported languages over on the Team Fortress 2 wiki! I ask those that voted for removal to reconsider. I can understand a needed removal if it was some obscure language and that there are no users from that language, but this is not true. Simply put, Arabic translations are needed and their will be more translators past the infancy of this project. I feel it is my duty to inform those who are voting to remove the Arabic section on how this will affect the Arabic gaming community. Alsoodani 00:09, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

::: agree I must agree with Alsoodani. His effort seem genuine and I'd say there's a big overlap in Arabic people who play TF2 and doesn't understand very well English. —  <span style="color: #FF6600; font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; text-shadow:orange 0px 0px 2px;">Neo_Player</span> <sup>(<span style="background: #FFFF00; color: #FF0000; padding: 0 1px;">t</span> ▪ <span style="background: #FF0000; color: #FFFF00; padding: 0 1px;">c</span>)</sup> 00:18, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Haven't had any item drops for a week!
Now, I've already posted this same question on the Steam Forums and Steam Support and neither one has been any help so here goes.

Last week I went on an achievement server in team fortress 2 that I've never been on ("Achievement_Dr Cola" or something like that). Now, when Wednesday came and the item drops started to restart for everyone, I got two item drops on the morning of Thursday, and then I went on that achievement server again (because I thought it was pretty neat and I hadn't thought that that might be the cause of the item drop issues). Now it is Saturday and I haven't gotten a single item drop since Thursday!

Now Steam Support is telling me that I should wait it out but no items for weeks is pretty bad. So, I would like to know if any of you guys know of any alternative solution besides "wait it out."Hazmatt 23:04, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

: You just got exceptionally unlucky. Those two drops reached your drop cap. The fact that you were on an idle server does not mean you lose any items. -- <span style="text-shadow:orange 0px 0px 3px;"><font color="#FF6600"><tt><big><u>Firestorm</u></big></tt></font> mod</span> 03:31, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

::Agreed. This has happened to me several times (only about 5 drops a week). Best bet is to wait it out and if it does not improve in a few weeks try playing on "more popular" servers. If the idle server loses connection to steam master servers(and you don't notice), you may not be receiving your drops due to that, but that is kind of a stretch. Hope that helps K-Mac 06:15, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Mechanics
Finally finished my draft of Mechanics. It covers many topics related to gameplay and customization, meant to bridge a number of topics that one would want to know in order to understand and make full use of TF2. You can see the original discussion for it here. Right now, the plan is to replace the Game modes link on the Main page, and in the process give some more room to topics found in :Category:Gameplay and :Category:Customization that players don't know much about, though with some reworking I could see Patches or Miscellaneous items being moved or merged to other places on the Main page and giving their space instead. Right now some of my main thoughts are...

* Making sure people are still receptive to the concept of the article and putting it on the Main page

* Getting the article a better first image

* Finalizing where exactly the article will be linked

* Getting people to review the article thoroughly to solidify writing and scope

I'm happy to hear questions, suggestions, and comments. :) Feel free to edit the article as you see appropriate. == How To Be Fast.. ==

Hi Im kinda of a new member i just joined last night. My friend was all like "go onto the Tf2 wiki its sick as!!".I tried it and now im on.Im kinda fast and im a real noob at writing stuff like this but leave a comment or whatever on tips that you use on how to be fast. I use the scout a heck lot. I have about 34 hours just on scout. I jump around a lot so i always (well almost always) kill the enemy i am pinned against. It proves a vexing task when we have to try and dodge spammed demoman grenades but we still get along.

It is quite hard to jump around as scout when a demo is spamming grenades or stickies. Im actually sick of it. No mean to brag but im a fairly good scout. I hope this can help you. Here is a list as scout on how to be fast..

1: Jump around a lot

2: Spray a bit

3: Hide and ambush the enemy (not camping)

4: Confuse the enemy (like jump on a roof and ambush)

5: Be careful and watch your back.

6:

7:

You can use 6 and 7 for what you think could be Fast!

Hi Its Veryrenwick again.. I have been recently playin tf2 and i have been kinda annoyed by this but the Soldier and Demomans weapon the "Pain Train" and certain other bugs on different weapons. I cant name all of them and if you want to add me on steam my name is Spectre. But make a thread if you want with a comment or soemthing about what weapons you have found with bugs. The only reason is its kinda bugging ME. Thanks --Veryrenwick 20:55, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Community Strategies REVAMP!
I have been doing a little snooping here and there and have usually been very impressed until now. Strategies every which place coming out of the WAZOO! We need a total revamp. I was thinking instead of the random pages and pages of different types of strategies and such we should have a HEAVY strategy and so on and so forth instead of the different types such as Demoman match-ups, the Community Pyro strategy, and the list goes on. We need a system or else I may go crazy. The only problem I see is page sizes. The way to solve that would be to create a Heavy(or others) Strategy page that will link to sub pages or link to the main articles. We CAN do it. just don't have them every which way that it goes out of our ears!

:I agree, they're quite a mess. I spent last night going through and fixing only typos in these articles. It took a fair bit of time even with Firefox's built-in spellchecker; just imagine if these articles were really audited! As for an actual system, I don't think the current way of doing things is entirely bad, but it should be subject to a lot more scrutiny. Or maybe placing limits on what users can contribute. I'm not sure. - Vlad The Impaler 21:52, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

::Revamp or just a quick rearrange just anything to get it to look good and make sense. Meter1060 02:39, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

:::I agree it should be cleaned up and even perhaps limited in what can be added in content. But, categories such as Demoman match-ups are necessary. They provide both experienced and rookie players specific strategies for a given situation. I know it helped me with certain one-on-one situations. That being said, I again feel as though this area can be cleaned up some and contributions should be monitored. K-Mac 23:04, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

How to get wiki cap ( i need answers)
I have not only joined this for wiki cap BUT i also joined to meet people in the community. I was doing a little bit of browsing and i have ABSOLUTELY NO idea how you get the wiki cap.

I would like some answers on how to get it. I am quite low on hats. Please if you know or already have it please tell me how to get it. I  NEED some answers as soon as possible. I really want to know because the hat looks epic. I love how Valve and Steam have made Team Fortress 2. I believe that they done a VERY VERY good job. --Veryrenwick 09:19, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

: We should also note that the Wiki Cap is a reward for a job well done for contributing useful and insightful information. In my opinion, you should be doing this to help the community, not only for the hat. K-Mac 23:07, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

:: The problem is that the majority of the new editors have registered to get the hat. You probably being one of them. There isn't anything wrong with this however. The point of the hat in the first place was to reward valuable contributions and attract editors. -- Lagg 23:39, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

:::Have to agree here. I'm one of many who came here originally drawn by the idea of the Wiki Cap. The current guidelines, alongside the fact that there was an awesome community, kept me interested in the idea of working towards it. But I've seen a lot of pages that need work, I've done about 100 "quality" edits over the course of two months, and I'm happy to say that I'll likely be here even after I ever get a Wiki Cap. But some people aren't like me, they want to just get the cap and get out. To that extent, I think pushing people towards the community, towards the IRC, and giving them an idea of what is "quality" and what is not would go much farther than putting a tag on the Wiki Cap page. Just my 2 cents. StarYoshi 23:42, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

::::I meant no disrespect by what I said. I know that hat draws many individuals to this community, which is great. And yes it did draw my attention to it, but I have found a niche that will allow me to contribute to the community in a specific way. I feel more people should use this technique to contribute because everyone has some area that they can contribute usefully. The hat should be considered a "bonus" for working hard and one should not have a sense of entitlement to obtaining a hat for having contributed. K-Mac 00:25, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Kanosea 10:37, 4 December 2010 (UTC) I suppose beta updates also show up in TF2 news, no? Strobe 10:41, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

We have the official christmas cards to work with, and Pyro, Heavy and Scout all have winter themed hats. I think a nice banner could be made, but that's just my two cents Balladofwindfishes 17:41, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Blurred Hat Pictures

I've noticed how the loadout, store, and catalog pictures for the Vintage Merryweather, the Carouser's Capotain, and the Horrific Headsplitter are very blurred. Also on the list of servers, the pictures for the official maps Watchtower and Pipeline are blurred too. When might this be fixed? Jarhead 01:42, 8 December 2010 (UTC)Jarhead

This page is not for general discussion of TF2 or the Wiki. It is for discussion pertaining to the Main Page itself.

Should there be a mouse guide?

I noticed there are guides for IRC and other not so TF2 related guides. Many people do not have much knowledge on how to use a mouse well in TF2.

Should there at least be a link to an outside article somewhere in the wiki for users who want to know what Raw Input and other mouse are?

new update

there was a new update with the killing floor pyro stuff...
