Show Preview

Hi, I've noticed you've been making a lot of repeated edits to the same pages one after the other, often consisting of small fixes. When you edit a page, could you please use the "Show Preview" button first so that you can catch those errors before publishing the page? The way you're doing it is flooding the Recent Changes and is a little bit annoying. I'm glad you're making edits, but it would be nice if it was all done at once. Thanks. -- User Alex2539 Sig.png -- 05:19, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Mini-Crit

May I ask why you removed all links to the Mini-Crit page on the weapons pages? --Firestorm 07:32, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

I made those changes for consistency as I noticed some weapon pages had the Mini-Crits links while the majority didn't. I'm not sure what the popular consensus is, but I'd be happy to go through them all and add the links in? Moussekateer 07:36, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
It would be better to have the link, in case new people are here and don't know what a Mini-Crit is. Now, it's your choice, you can fix all the weapon pages to link properly, or I can use my bot and do it much quicker, your call --Firestorm 07:44, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
I don't want to take up your time, and since I have a quite a lot of free time I'd be happy to go through the weapons pages and insert the links if that's ok with you. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Moussekateer (talk) • contribs)

Removing strategy tip

You really think that teamwork between engineers is not necessary in the game? Really? Fuutard 12:07, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

No I do but those tips are only the official tips that show up on the loading map/joining server screen. There is a separate article for other tips. Moussekateer 12:10, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
Then I would be glad if you could show me it. Fuutard 12:13, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

clipping undos

Sorry about that. I assumed putting clipping problems in trivia was fine cause I saw it in several other articles. ChillColdCoolaid

That's okay, they shouldn't have been in the other articles in the first place. Also next time reply on the same Talk Page so it's easier to follow conversations ;) Moussekateer 20:15, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Umm...

May i ask you why you're taking all my edits off the pages? Basing it off other edits, i don't see why you do. Rickly 23:30, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Because they don't meet the trivia style guidelines. Most have consisted of unrelated coincidences, minor bugs or uninteresting facts. Moussekateer 23:32, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
Oh, ok, thanks then. I'm a bit new to the Wiki, so sorry about that. Rickly 23:38, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Painted Hound Dog bug

Hi, I had put information about a bug concerning the painted Hound Dog's model on it's trivia section and you've deleted it, it's ok but I'd like to know why you did that, because I also saw information about the Sniper's model bugs on the Sniper's trivia section, so I'm confused because they're both explaining model bugs, what's the problem with my edit? Allukard 18:45 (GMT -03:00), 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Hiya. It was decided a while back that bugs don't count as trivia. Especially bugs that are very minor and don't affect gameplay. If you've noticed it on other articles rest assured, they will be removed soon. Moussekateer 22:42, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
Oh ok, thanks for the explanation, cya. Allukard 19:30 (GMT -03:00), 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Removed tip on HHHH

I saw you removed my tip on the (let's see if I can get this right) Horseless Headless Haunted Head Taker. My tip read as follows, "Currently, The Headless Horsemann's Headtaker has the longest name of any weapon in the game.". I feel this is an interesting bit of trivia, as it is correct. I did, however, make the description "tip" which confuses even me. I must have left my brain on Auto-Pilot. It should have read something along the lines of "added trivia". I'd hate to think it was removed just because of an incorrect description. I was wondering if under these now explained circumstances it could be re-added. Cheers MogDog66 22:11, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Whilst I approve the addition of trivia and curse the day trivia executioners ruled this wiki, that's not exactly a great piece of trivia. The key is asking yourself if they already know this from reading the rest of the article or playing the game. In this instance, people will be able to guess that the HHHH is the longest named weapon in the game. --Focusknock s 22:14, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Marking custom maps for deletion

You seem to have been marking several custom maps for deletion on the grounds that "nobody plays this map," or "not notable." How is this grounds for the deletion of a page? -Nerdboy 01:38, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Some of them were mark by mistake on my part. Some of them are not notable though, and that is grounds for deletion if enough other people consider them not notable enough. Moussekateer 01:44, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Why are you removing all my edits?

I have been updating the trivia but anything I add you remove it. Why are you doing it? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by VRCkid (talk) • (contribs) 04:16, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Poker Night Release

Hello, I was wondering if once the update goes live, can I add all the appropriate linking immediately (November 22, 12 AM)? Or should I wait for confirmation. Things like the Maim badge have already been reported by Valve to be all class, so should I only add already confirmed ones? MogDog66 User MogDog66 Service Metal No WhiteSpace.png t c p || 05:45, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Well only the License to Maim Badge has been confirmed to be all class I believe. The rest are just intelligent guesses as to whether they'll be misc/hats or reskins of certain weapons. So the ideal thing to do would be to wait until we have confirmation before we start adding in links and templates. Moussekateer 06:01, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Holy Mackerel

Why did you remove the trivia of the fish being a monty python reference, it obviously is and nowhere is it stated in the trivia? Tryer 22:47, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Hiya. It was removed because the only link is that they are both fish. Apart from that the link to the scout owning one is tenuous. Do you have any source saying otherwise? Moussekateer 23:11, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
You know, you maybe right here. I can't find any reliable sources, how about we put "it may be a reference to Monty Python" as a precautionary? Tryer 23:16, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Ah that's a big no no. The moment the words 'it may be a reference' are uttered it'll be removed. Otherwise the wiki would be full of tenuous trivia references. There is currently a revised set of guidelines being compiled to clarify the wiki's position. Moussekateer 23:21, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

even though the "wording" flowed better in the previous version, we should still change the "hitting Pyros with fire will not count" to "hitting Pyros with a flare projectile will not count" or something along those lines since we are talking about the flare gun in this achievement. Hotrod trivia links

Changes were made according to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources#Embedded_links. What dictates when a References section is used and when it is not if the former isn't the case? _Malthenius Backpack Sandvich.png 00:23, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Hmm well the wiki doesn't seem to have a position on this, and it's not mentioned in our style guide. Give me a while and I'll get back to you with a better answer. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 00:31, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
Well the wiki doesn't have a definite position on when to use one or another. References are sometimes a nightmare to fill in, so just use your best judgement. The best approach would be to stay consistent in the article once you've made your choice. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 00:43, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
Do you think this would be something worth expanding on in the style guide? I'm all for staying consistent, but I'm also big on having specific rules to use to guide the editing process. Hell, if it's something I can work on pitching or presenting as an idea for an addition to the rules I'd gladly take it on. Just a thought. Thanks. _Malthenius Backpack Sandvich.png 01:11, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

A User Page Question

You seem like you know your way around making a correct userpage, so maybe you could be of assistance. On my User page, I have a little header bar, that lists a bunch of shortcuts to my backpack, steam page, ect. The only problem is that I cannot fathom why the last two pictures keep linking to the image file and not the link I desire (the same link as the text below it). I have been fiddling with it forever and cannot figure out what's up with it. The header template can be found here. Any help? Balrog Skull Trivia

Self-Facepalm... I even double checked the edit history because I'm one of those sensitive users that feels bad when deleting someone's content. It just seemed to make sense... Is there a discussion somewhere about this? I feel like the reference is reallllly speculative, significantly since the horns are shaped differently, and there's been demons with downward facing horns for ages. I think it'd be just as fair as to say that the artist was influenced by, say, Diablo or something like that. I know Weta Digital was responsible for Gollum's model, and the effects on the Balrog, and I know that the modeler that created these hats was somehow involved with Gollum's CGI... but again... to him to both characters and then tie that back into the hat just seems overly speculative in comparison to the rest of the wiki. Regardless, thanks for catching my error. CptObvious 01:15, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

It's okay, you're not the first to have misread that edit notice :P We can't say for sure that he was influenced by the Balrog model but the fact that his company did do the effects is a nice bit of trivia. The connection is there, so it's not baseless speculation. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 01:20, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
I definitely understand that it's not baseless, but we've definitely slaughtered other trivia for less-concrete evidence. I mean, if we're willing to concede that we can't say for sure that it's what influenced the hat, while it may not be baseless, it still violates the rule of having trivia only "be facts, not speculation." With different wording, this trivia would never fly. "The Spine chilling skull may or may not have been influenced by the Balrog from LOTR, as the modeler may have been the same person, or might have drawn inspiration from it." Interesting? Yes, very... but Speculative? Yes, very. It just seems "meh" considering the normal standard on the wiki. That's what I was so confused when I saw that I had misread the notice.CptObvious 01:34, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
The fact of the matter is that a Valve employee did tell us a Weta modeler made the skull, who also worked on the Balrog. That connection is interesting. He possibly didn't base it on the Balrog, but say if the Brigade helm was designed by a firefighter that would be interesting, even if we cannot say where he got his inspiration from. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 01:41, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
You know, it comes across VERY differently when you say it like that. Right now, the connection is being made from the resemblance and speculates the inspiration. If the connection focused on the modeler and his connection the the shapes and forms, it would feel a LOT less vague and a lot less like speculation.

"The Spine-Chilling Skull bears a resemblance to the Balrog from The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, presumably because the hat was modeled by the man who also made Gollum's face in the movies" (Current)
"The Spine-Chilling Skull was modeled by an artist from Weta Digital, the same studio responsible for modeling characters from the Lord of the Rings film trilogy such Gollum and the Balrog. The latter of the two, interestingly, bears quite a resemblance to the Spine-Chilling Skull."

Thoughts? I don't know how "set in stone" the current trivia is, but I feel like it could use a rewording. PS, thanks for your help on this... I've been here for a while, but I'm definitely still a wikinoob. CptObvious 02:09, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Also, your indicating that the screenshots were terrible indicates that you didn't even look at them...they are 640x480 in-game screenshots of TF2...I suspect you simply looked at the pages that I had created which had image links with the 100px resize option...all you needed to do was discuss with me that you feel the screenshots should be full size instead of 100px thumbnails, or suggest a different size.
I'll contact Zoolooman and coordinate with him. Rockn-Roll 02:18, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
Believe me, I looked at all the screenshots. They were terrible both in quality and composition. But please do contact Zoolooman in case it's a waste of time, as the strategy pages need an overhaul. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 02:23, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
Then be more specific...we are all here to create improve the wiki...simply stating that a user's contributions are "terrible" does not help. Please indicate what is wrong with them. Thanks. Rockn-Roll 02:56, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Ah, sorry.

Hmm, what saying the boston basher resembles a medieval mace be good?
