Classless Update Title Card.png

The Classless Update was released on August 13, 2009, and marked the first non-class specific major update. The content focus of the update differed from previous updates; instead of introducing new weapons or achievements, the Classless Update added new hats, game modes and maps, while also delivering a large number of bug fixes and minor tweaks to existing gameplay.

Announcements

The Classless Update page officially began on August 11, 2009, as announced on the TF2 Official Blog with the post "This one's ours now!". The update was released to all players on August 13.

  • Day 1 (August 11): the Arena map Offblast, along with the addition of 18 new hats was announced.
  • Day 2 (August 12): the King of the Hill map Viaduct, the first of its game type, as well as two new king of the hill converted maps, Sawmill and Nucleus, were announced.
  • Day 3 (August 13): the Control Point map Yukon, the Capture the Flag converted map Sawmill, and patch notes listing additions/changes, map changes, item reworks, fixes and community requests were announced.
