The Gloves of Running Urgently (G.R.U.) are a melee weapon for the Heavy. They are similar in appearance to the Killing Gloves of Boxing, but designed with flame decals and orange rings around the cuffs.
While the Gloves of Running Urgently are the active weapon, the Heavy moves 30% faster - at 99.67% base movement speed, a rate of 299 Hammer units per second (about 13 miles per hour). While this effect is active, the Heavy suffers a health loss of 6 health per second, indicated by a team-colored skull and crossbones appearing above him every time health is lost. Continual use of the Gloves of Running Urgently will therefore result in the Heavy's death unless he is being continually healed. The Gloves of Running Urgently's damage is half that of the Fists.
As with the Fists and the rest of the Heavy's melee weapons, primary fire swings the left fist, secondary fire swings the right fist, and the critical hit animation is always a right-handed uppercut.
The Gloves of Running Urgently's self-inflicted damage is cumulative with respect to time. For example, if a player took out the Gloves of Running Urgently for 0.5 seconds, switched to Minigun, and then switched back to the Gloves of Running Urgently, that player would take 6 damage after wielding the weapon for another 0.5 seconds. A player can minimize damage taken during travel by repeatedly jumping and only taking the Gloves of Running Urgently out while touching the ground, as velocity is not lost by losing base move speed mid-air. The heavy can also jump a little higher then usual if he jumps as soon as he takes damage from the G.R.U. While this is not as useful as some other forms of jumping, it can get the player to places that are not normally reachable.

- The Gloves of Running Urgently now using the boxing taunt and boxing glove weapons are now of the type "Boxing Gloves" instead of "Fists."

Trivia
- G.R.U. is an acronym for the Template:W, the foreign military intelligence directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (formerly the Red Army General Staff of the Soviet Union).
- The Gloves of Running Urgently were featured in the closed beta, the attributes of which were leaked by testers; they did not have their own texture or taunt and instead used the Killing Gloves of Boxing's model and the Showdown taunt as placeholders. The first version, «G.R.U. Beta 1», increased the movement speed of the Heavy, but reduced the damage done by 50% and decreased max health by 100. These effects only took place while the weapon was active. «G.R.U. Beta 2» made the Heavy receive less health from healing sources, rather than lose a portion of maximum health. Finally, «G.R.U. Beta 3» was identical to the weapon used in the game now.
