Videos for hats

Completely unnecessary or what? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ereht olleH (talk) • (contribs) 03:22, 15 November 2010

Completely unnecessary. Also please remember to sign your comments with ~~~~. Moussekateer 03:26, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
I agree its completely unnecessary. MR SLIN 18:44, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
With the possible exception of the Hotrod. Toomai Glittershine 19:38, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
What, A small .gif on the hat's page is enough, not a whole video. Strobe 19:42, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Can We Change the Random Page Link on the Navigation Bar on the Left?

Whenever I click the "Random Page" link on the left it usually brings up a random page in a language that isn't English. This frustrates me as an English user and I'm sure it also frustrates people who speak a different language like French to click the random page link and receive a link in Japanese. Is there any way we can have language-specific random page links? MR SLIN 13:04, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

We would if we could: Team Fortress Wiki:Discussion#Random Page gives mostly non-English pages :( --CruelCow (talk) 13:11, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Why isn't there a wiki "rules" section in the navigation bar on the left?

This place is missing a guide that lists things that you shouldn't do on this wiki, like deleting posts and whatnot. I find it odd that it isn't immediately searchable or findable in one FAQ page or similar. (nanosheep_inc) 03:36, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

We have Help in the navigation for that information. Personally, I think Rules implies users will be punished if they do not abide by our guidelines, however us staff and the guidelines are here to help new users get into the practises and procedures we abide by here - not punish those who make mistakes. However as you never made the connection that Help would list our guidelines, I wouldn't be surprised if other contributors haven't made that connection either; so I think we would have to do something to make that clearer. -RJ 17:51, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
Yeah I think "Rules" is harsher than "Help" so it should stay the way it is. MR SLIN 08:45, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Sandman Wall Glitch

I don't know if this has been posted before but i found this glitch ingame. While using the Sandman's baseball, run back and forth toward a wall while hitting the ball. Make sure to go straight and to keep the ball going in a straight line towards the wall. It might take awhile but it should eventually "disappear". To see what actual happens go to a glass wall and do it. What you'll see is that it goes straight through the wall and still hurts an enemy. --Delterz 04:08, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

It's a known exploit, and documented here. ~ lhavelund (talkcontrib) 05:55, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I've actually done it before myself. Maybe Valve will patch it, maybe they won't. ~PeacekeeperRen 00:06, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
It's not really a significant issue so don't expect it to be fixed anytime soon. Misterslin 15:21, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Unofficial Community Content

I've noticed that nearly all of the unofficial community content (Mods, maps, etc.) are stubs, marked for cleanup, ect. Do we really need these? There is FPSbanana. That would clean up a LOT of the wiki. --Kurathedog 21:53, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

I think the general consensus is that we add pages for custom content if it is notable. That is, for example, if a map has been adopted in comp play, is featured on a bunch of servers, etc. ~ lhavelund (talkcontrib) 21:54, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Instead of asking to delete them, why not contribute to them instead? That would be most helpful.--Focusknock s 21:57, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
I agree with lhavelund. Only notable content should be added to, anything irrelevant or not noteworthy should be marked for deletion. Cidem 06:46, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
I too agree with IHavelund, there are so many maps that are not played or will ever have anything noteworthy to write about Z Overlord 02:41, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
I also agree. I think we should only include Stock maps or maps that are so frequently played that they are worth noting. An example that comes to mind was cp_freight before they made it an official map. Something of that level.Misterslin 15:22, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

New facts. Seriously.

I've been staring at the same facts for quite a while. Let's get some new facts, and a new featured article. ~ lhavelund (talkcontrib) 14:31, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

I'm sort of new here, so I don't know this. Does this wiki have a monthly or weekly update for the facts or featured articles, or does it stay until changed by someone of higher power?~PeacekeeperRen 00:12, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
I think he may be referring to the "Featured Article" and the "Did you know?" sections on the main page. I agree someone should go in and change them on a regular basis. Misterslin 15:29, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
I always thought that the admins were the ones who regularly rotated the facts in and out. Usually I just add a fact to the page (after checking that it hasn't been repeated) and let others take care of changing the front page ones out. --LordKelvin 17:28, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Pictogram tick.png Done Rotated the facts. I'm not sure if we have a proper rotation system in-place, i.e. every month or so. I'll start a discussion about it and I invite you guys to join in here. -RJ 17:51, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Dunno where else to put this

On the left hand side, under the search tool, there are some links for Team Fortress Classic. Wouldn't it make more sense to link to Main Page (Classic) instead of team fortress classic wikia? Psychopath 23:04, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Agreed. I was thinking this very same thing last night while reviewing some TFC material. We should try to keep links to "in-house" material when the information is available - K-Mac 16:26, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Secret audio responses

Today I got some kills underwater (also 1 domination i think) and I heard the Engineer saying something that I can't find on the audio responses page. It was something like: "6 feet under", or "Do I have to to say 6 feet down under".

Is this real with every class?-- Jem (talk) • (contribs) 20:28, 13 November 2010

What you describe is the Engineer's Domination line for the Sniper. see here. It is not a secret or hidden audio response. --Focusknock s 19:31, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

Ah, I couldn't find it because i was underwater, and it said 6 feet under. I thought it had something to with the water. Thanks.

Haven't had any item drops for a week!

Now, I've already posted this same question on the Steam Forums and Steam Support and neither one has been any help so here goes.

Last week I went on an achievement server in team fortress 2 that I've never been on ("Achievement_Dr Cola" or something like that). Now, when Wednesday came and the item drops started to restart for everyone, I got two item drops on the morning of Thursday, and then I went on that achievement server again (because I thought it was pretty neat and I hadn't thought that that might be the cause of the item drop issues). Now it is Saturday and I haven't gotten a single item drop since Thursday!

Now Steam Support is telling me that I should wait it out but no items for weeks is pretty bad. So, I would like to know if any of you guys know of any alternative solution besides "wait it out."Hazmatt 23:04, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

You just got exceptionally unlucky. Those two drops reached your drop cap. The fact that you were on an idle server does not mean you lose any items. --User Firestorm Flame.png Firestorm 03:31, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Agreed. This has happened to me several times (only about 5 drops a week). Best bet is to wait it out and if it does not improve in a few weeks try playing on "more popular" servers. If the idle server loses connection to steam master servers(and you don't notice), you may not be receiving your drops due to that, but that is kind of a stretch. Hope that helps K-Mac 06:15, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Why is this Main Page discussion material? -- En Ex (talk) 06:28, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Happens to me more often than not. I've only found one item this week. Some weeks are better than others I guess, but I normally just wait it out. Mr.JimmyBojangles 02:32, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Danish Wiki

I'm in the process of expanding the danish part of this wiki, but I can't seem to find edit for Wiki main page eng to put a link to the danish main. Orb

Community comments

in the ingame encyclopedie it says "community comments". and if you click you will be linked to the tf2 wiki page of that object. but there are no comments! should i make a part where tf2 users can post their comments on the pages? if they like or something. or what is bugged. just what they think, without removel. Jem 08:36, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Oh lol, there is "Page talk" button DrAkcel 08:37, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
This is a terrible idea. Imagine the Natascha page... I don't know why Valve called it 'community comments' but I assume they just meant the wiki article on it. Moussekateer 08:40, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Mechanics

Finally finished my draft of Mechanics. It covers many topics related to gameplay and customization, meant to bridge a number of topics that one would want to know in order to understand and make full use of TF2. You can see the original discussion for it here. Right now, the plan is to replace the Game modes link on the Main page, and in the process give some more room to topics found in Category:Gameplay and Category:Customization that players don't know much about, though with some reworking I could see Patches or Miscellaneous items being moved or merged to other places on the Main page and giving their space instead. Right now some of my main thoughts are...

  • Making sure people are still receptive to the concept of the article and putting it on the Main page
  • Getting the article a better first image
  • Finalizing where exactly the article will be linked
  • Getting people to review the article thoroughly to solidify writing and scope

I'm happy to hear questions, suggestions, and comments. :) Feel free to edit the article as you see appropriate. ~G-Mang (T|C) s 21:55, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Very Nice. I found it to be quite helpful. Good work! Mr.JimmyBojangles 09:57, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. :)
If anyone has any objections or concerns, please voice them. I'll probably put the mechanics article into the game modes slot around Sunday if no one has any problems with it. :0 ~G-Mang (T|C) 22:09, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
None here. A solid article, and actually quite the read. That said, very informative, and definitely a good "first read" for anyone new to TF2 and the wiki. StarYoshi 23:11, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Poker Night Wiki

I created a Poker Night Wiki for all the Poker night relate stuff to go to. It's still under construction so any help is aprecciated [1] Guybrush20X6 11:42, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Good idea...maybe consider putting a link to it somewhere on this site? MR SLIN 10:05, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
Hey there. I re-added the link to the site here, hoping that your site can get a few more contributors and become more comprehensive. If it doesn't after a little while then we will remove it, simply because right now it's not totally useful to all readers. -- Pilk (talk) 10:14, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

How To Be Fast..

Hi Im kinda of a new member i just joined last night. My friend was all like "go onto the Tf2 wiki its sick as!!".I tried it and now im on.Im kinda fast and im a real noob at writing stuff like this but leave a comment or whatever on tips that you use on how to be fast. I use the scout a heck lot. I have about 34 hours just on scout. I jump around a lot so i always (well almost always) kill the enemy i am pinned against. It proves a vexing task when we have to try and dodge spammed demoman grenades but we still get along.

It is quite hard to jump around as scout when a demo is spamming grenades or stickies. Im actually sick of it. No mean to brag but im a fairly good scout. I hope this can help you. Here is a list as scout on how to be fast..

1: Jump around a lot 2: Spray a bit 3: Hide and ambush the enemy (not camping) 4: Confuse the enemy (like jump on a roof and ambush) 5: Be careful and watch your back. 6: 7:

You can use 6 and 7 for what you think could be Fast!

Weapon Bugs

Hi Its Veryrenwick again.. I have been recently playin tf2 and i have been kinda annoyed by this but the Soldier and Demomans weapon the "Pain Train" and certain other bugs on different weapons. I cant name all of them and if you want to add me on steam my name is Spectre. But make a thread if you want with a comment or soemthing about what weapons you have found with bugs. The only reason is its kinda bugging ME. Thanks --Veryrenwick 20:55, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Veryrenwick..

Community Strategies REVAMP!

I have been doing a little snooping here and there and have usually been very impressed until now. Strategies every which place coming out of the WAZOO! We need a total revamp. I was thinking instead of the random pages and pages of different types of strategies and such we should have a HEAVY strategy and so on and so forth instead of the different types such as Demoman match-ups, the Community Pyro strategy, and the list goes on. We need a system or else I may go crazy. The only problem I see is page sizes. The way to solve that would be to create a Heavy(or others) Strategy page that will link to sub pages or link to the main articles. We CAN do it. just don't have them every which way that it goes out of our ears!

/rant - Meter1060 21:48, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

I agree, they're quite a mess. I spent last night going through and fixing only typos in these articles. It took a fair bit of time even with Firefox's built-in spellchecker; just imagine if these articles were really audited! As for an actual system, I don't think the current way of doing things is entirely bad, but it should be subject to a lot more scrutiny. Or maybe placing limits on what users can contribute. I'm not sure. - Vlad The Impaler 21:52, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
Revamp or just a quick rearrange just anything to get it to look good and make sense. Meter1060 02:39, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
I agree it should be cleaned up and even perhaps limited in what can be added in content. But, categories such as Demoman match-ups are necessary. They provide both experienced and rookie players specific strategies for a given situation. I know it helped me with certain one-on-one situations. That being said, I again feel as though this area can be cleaned up some and contributions should be monitored. K-Mac 23:04, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

How to get wiki cap ( i need answers)

I have not only joined this for wiki cap BUT i also joined to meet people in the community. I was doing a little bit of browsing and i have ABSOLUTELY NO idea how you get the wiki cap.

I would like some answers on how to get it. I am quite low on hats. Please if you know or already have it please tell me how to get it. I NEED some answers as soon as possible. I really want to know because the hat looks epic. I love how Valve and Steam have made Team Fortress 2. I believe that they done a VERY VERY good job. --Veryrenwick 09:19, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Wiki Cap guidelines. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 09:21, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
We should also note that the Wiki Cap is a reward for a job well done for contributing useful and insightful information. In my opinion, you should be doing this to help the community, not only for the hat. K-Mac 23:07, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
The problem is that the majority of the new editors have registered to get the hat. You probably being one of them. There isn't anything wrong with this however. The point of the hat in the first place was to reward valuable contributions and attract editors. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 23:39, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
