Members of the Team Fortress community have developed and implemented a variety of slang terms for various circumstances for the game. Some of these terms are as follows:
Glossary
AFK
- Acronym for "Away from keyboard".
- Example: "I am going to be AFK while I let the cat out."
- Airblast
- Slang for Pyro's compression blast ability.
- Example: "Wow, you sure are good at airblasting."
- Bodyshot / Bodyshotting
- An attack where a Sniper deliberately disregards attempting a headshot and instead aims for an enemy's body.
- Example: "Oh my, a bodyshot.. How embarrasing."
- Buff
- Term meaning a change in a player's status for the better.
- Example: "Medic, I require a buff to take out that sentry."
- Cap, Capping, Capped
- A control point capture, the point itself or the act of capturing a control point.
- Example: "We need to cap the point to win the game!"
- Crit(s)
- Abbreviation of Critical hit
- Example: "How can one guy get so many crits?"
- Crocket
- A simple conversion of "Critical Rocket".
- Example: "Those crockets are wiping us all over the floor."
- DC / D/C
- Abbreviation for "disconnected" or "disconnect".
- Example: "It looks as though Bob has dced."
- Demo
- May refer to:
- A Demoman;
- A demo recording.
- Examples:
- "That demo has his Stickies all over the point!"
- "I will demo you if you use hacks."
- Engie / Engy
- Abbreviation for the Engineer.
- Example: "We need that engy at the point."
- FAN / FaN
- Acronym for the Scout's Force-A-Nature unlock.
- Example: "I dislike the FaN's lower clip size."
- G.R.U / GRU
- Gloves of Running Urgently.
- Example: "Trading my GRU for a Mad Milk!"
- Intel
- Abbreviation for for the Intelligence in Capture the Flag maps.
- Example: "Get the sentry in the intel room!"
- K.G.B
- Killing Gloves of Boxing.
- Example: "The K.G.B is my favourite weapon!"
- Mic
- A microphone, used for communication over voice chat.
- Example: "Your mic is of poor quality."
- Nest
- The collectivized area of an Engineer and his buildings.
- Example: "There is a nest around the corner we can attack with a couple of demos."
- OP
- Acronym for "overpowered", in reference to game balance.
- Example: "Wow your weapon is OP."
- Owned / Pwned
- A term applied a player that has been defeated such that it is humiliating to them.
- Example: "Hah! I just owned you!"
- Ragequit
- Slang for a player disconnecting from a server, presumably out of frustration, anger, or humiliation associated with a losing streak.
- Example: "Ha ha ha, we made him ragequit."
- Scrim / Scirmish
- A focused multiplayer match, often between clans.
- Example: "These two clans had a scrim today, I wonder who won."
- Spy-checking
- The act of "checking" teammates and areas where teammates are for Spies.
- Example: "I need someone to spy check around my sentry."
- Spy Crab
- A Spy that imitates the movement of a crab by crouching and looking up while having the Disguise Kit equipped. Also refers to the same taunt associated with the Disguise Kit.
- Example: "The Spy Crap is so funny!"
- Stickies
- Slang for Sticky bombs.
- Example: "Watch out for those Stickies!"
- Über / Invuln
- Abbreviation for ÜberCharge.
- Example: "Please Über me now Medic."
- Übered
- Someone who is being ÜberCharged.
- Example: "Oh no! That heavy is Übered!"
