— The Heavy running urgently on the battlefield
|
” |
The Gloves of Running Urgently (abbreviated to G.R.U.) are a melee weapon for the Heavy. They are similar in appearance to the Killing Gloves of Boxing, but designed with flame decals and orange rings around the cuffs.
While the Gloves of Running Urgently are the active weapon, the Heavy moves 30% faster; that is, at 99.67% base movement speed, which is a rate of 299 Hammer units per second or about 13 miles per hour (20.92 kilometers per hour). While this effect is active, the Heavy is marked for death, taking all incoming damage as mini-crits, and remains so for 3 seconds after switching to another weapon. This effect is indicated by a skull and crossbones appearing above the player, and further indicated by a skull icon on the HUD. The effect does not stack with other speed-increasing effects, such as from being hit by the Disciplinary Action or the effect from eating the Buffalo Steak Sandvich. As downsides, the Gloves of Running Urgently deal 25% less damage on-hit, and take longer to switch away from to other weapons.
As with the Fists and most of the Heavy's melee weapons, primary fire swings the left fist, secondary fire swings the right fist, and the critical hit animation is always a right-handed uppercut.
The kill icon for the G.R.U. was contributed by flutterravie.

Trivia
- G.R.U. is an acronym for the Glavnoye Razvedyvatel'noye Upravleniye, the foreign military intelligence directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (formerly the Red Army General Staff of the Soviet Union).
- Three variants of the Gloves of Running Urgently were featured in the closed beta, the attributes of which were leaked by testers. They did not have their own texture or taunt and instead used the Killing Gloves of Boxing's model and the Showdown taunt as placeholders.
- G.R.U. Beta 3 was identical to the weapon as it was originally implemented in the Mann-Conomy Update.
