The Heavy

Upon taunting with the Fists equipped, the Heavy mimics a quick-draw Pistol Showdown, resulting in crippling pain and death for those hit by it. Being a taunt, Showdown can be used to kill enemy players during Humiliation and Stalemates. It is necessary to kill someone using the Showdown taunt to gain the Show Trial achievement. The taunt animation exists in the 360 and PS3 versions of the game but does not cause any damage.

Community testing has found that the range at which this taunt will kill is actually pretty respectable for such a situational attack. The taunt can (and will) kill people who are standing the equivalent of 9 players (of any class) away from the Heavy performing the taunt (horizontally), or about the length of one of the storage units at Granary, and its vertical range is approximately the distance between the ground level and second floor ceiling of 2Fort, giving it the longest range of all the taunt attacks by far.

Trivia

  • Before the Heavy Update, there were three different lines of dialogue associated with the performance of this taunt. When it became a taunt kill, two of the lines were removed.
  • The Gloves of Running Urgently briefly used the Showdown taunt after the Mann-Conomy Update. They now use the same taunt as the Killing Gloves of Boxing.
  • Unlike most other taunt kills, the Showdown does not hit based on the enemy player's position relative to the taunt animation. For the taunt kill to register, the target must be on the line indicated by the Heavy's crosshairs at the start of the taunt. As a result, the taunt can be aimed in any direction, including straight up or down. The Engineer's Organ Grinder taunt kill is the only other taunt that functions this way.
