Show preview
Please make use of the Show preview button. It gives you a preview of the edit you are making, allowing you to perfect your changes before you save the page. You can edit the whole article by clicking the edit button at the top of the page, which is preferable to editing multiple sections consecutively. — Tark lm(pt-br) 13:31, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
About some of your recent edits
Greetings, Jan.
I would like to talk about some of your recent edits regarding Wikipedia links and Workshop names.
There is no practical difference between [[wikipedia:Article
and [[w:Article
. You don't have to bother yourself with editing an article solely to shorten "Wikipedia" to just "w"; it is hardly noticeable by readers and it is such a small shortening that it barely has any impact on the overall text.
We have actually been removing Workshop names from articles, the reason being that, since trivia regarding the Workshop ("The Workshop description is a reference to X", "This item was contributed as part of the Y set"...) is not considered valid trivia (you can read about it in the Trivia Style guide, right above "What is not trivia?"), it doesn't make much sense to mention Workshop names in the articles (specially since this is something readers can find out themselves by clicking the link to the submission page).
Cheers. - BrazilianNut (talk) 03:43, 6 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hi,
- Whenever I was translating something and I was looking onto the original page, I noticed a few of those [wikipedia:Articles], and since the newer iteration of this is just [w:], I fixed it. I knew it didn't really add anything rather than saving space (so practically nothing), but I still felt like doing it, sorry if it caused any troubles, I won't be doing it from now on.
- Regarding the Trivia stuff, I really just translate from the original English page. I do not make those up myself. I have read them guidelines prior, but as I stated before, I am a mere translator. (I know this doesn't really excuse me, but just so you know).
Milinary-Industrial Complex
Hi, Jan,
"Milinary" was intended, as Mann Co. is a Milinary Factory, but I have made the link direct to w:Hatmaking to make the point clear.
We know that Mann Co. also makes weapons for sale to mercenaries, but it is a fine point whether they also supply any nation's military, such is never mentioned, IIRC.
The history tie-in of Bidwell's Big Plan Page 6 is that hippies took actions against the Military–industrial complex.
If you don't like the play of "milinary" then remove the link, and just have the one link to Military–industrial complex. Even though in most other media, Mann Co. is described as making hats, one could argue that no reference to hats is made on page 6, and so, "milinary" has no bearing on page 6.
Thanks,

I had been asked if there was a "Military industrial complex" only in America?", that is, is explanation needed for non-U.S. editors? Eisenhower was specifically concerned with the potential for corruption in the relationships between the military and industry unique to the United States after WWII. I really don't know how such relationships panned out in the Communist Republics. I would say that the "anti-violence" Actions taken by protesters were unilateral, and, so, specific to the U.S.; while the "Hippies" (and later anti-nuclear protesters of the 80s) appeared in many countries, they seemed to only protest U.S. military and economic interests.

- Hi Mikado, I was thinking about that edit, but ultimately decided to "fix" it to Military, until now I have never really heard of the term Milinary, although I could see it's related to Hatmaking, and all the other facts you just laid down here. So ultimately, sorry for that edit! Thanks for explaining all of this as well, it's really interesting (I'm not particularly knowledgeable about wars and stuff like that..) and with that said I just wanna reflect on the "revert-edit" you did, restoring the Milinary terms- I love your big trivia additions and the so-called "complex pun-linking". Always see myself learn something new, so please continue:)
- Sorry for the trouble! Have a nice rest of the day.
- Hey, Jan! Technically, I didn't follow bold-revert-chat, but skirted good graces with bold-revert-(simultaneous re-edit/chat); so, fair cop. I knew I was pushing it, and and the replacement I did was not being the best example for the Wikiddies (especially almost on that very day I told 404UNF not to editorialize). Don't apologize for the edit, I am sure even a Cap would have (should have) thought about it. The point of my re-edit was to make sure it was known that my use of "milinary" was not a typo before proceeding; but, I could have done that just chatting. I planned not to pushed any farther if anyone then wanted to make it actually read either military–industrial complex or milinary–industrial complex. Use of "milinary" in the article is not really necessary and would definitely need some sort of explanation if used. And, honestly, I was never relly happy with the back-to-back links (not my best contribution).
- Now, proceeding. Really, IMO, what is needed in the article is only to mention of the historic context that is being expressed by Valve; that is, that Hippies were infamous for not only protesting the war; but, also protesting anyone profiting from the war. So, what do you, soudruh/soudružka co-equal collaborative co-editor Jan,† think the final form of the sentence should be? military–industrial complex? I am ready to comply.
- † read in the sincerest, most filial voice possible, please

- Yeah, go ahead and just remove the extra link and make it just the one link to the MIC. My original edit was poor linking form and a problem for translators. Valve never used the milinary pun anyway (not that they shouldn't have).
