Mashed Mediocrity audio

I see the name contains "cbt", remember to keep it SFW. If it's NSFW it will be removed.
GrampaSwood (talk) 09:34, 13 April 2020 (UTC)

Unfortunately, some of the mission audio contains some inappropriate content. Do I have to remove them all?
Wealthy Diamond (talk) 09:39, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
Could you link the files?
GrampaSwood (talk) 09:40, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
How?
Wealthy Diamond (talk) 09:47, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
[[Media:filename]], e.g. [[Media:Spy uncloak feigndeath.wav]]
GrampaSwood (talk) 09:51, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
cbt_auegh.mp3, cbt_battlefield.mp3, Cbt game.mp3, cbt_legocity.mp3 Cbt wave8 1.mp3, Cbt wave8 2.mp3, Cbt wave8 3.mp3, Cbt pvz.mp3
Wealthy Diamond (talk) 09:59, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
As far as I can tell, most issues might be with copyright. Although, Media:cbt wave8 2.mp3 is probably NSFW. I'll have to let staff decide for the others
GrampaSwood (talk) 10:09, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
I will remove it as soon as possible if it's unacceptable.
Wealthy Diamond (talk) 10:21, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
Hey folks, couple of thoughts about copyright first, then I'll touch on appropriate content:
With first-party content, we have both a fair-use argument seeing as we are a non-commercial entity whose purpose is to document Team Fortress 2, as well as a blessing from Valve themselves – seeing as they're paying our bills.
With third-party content, there are a greater amount of copyright risks with issues such as:
  • Asserting the true ownership of content: Is it original content from a community member? or is it a remix of other community content? other game content?
  • Properly understanding and adhering to the original licensing of that content
  • Whether we have a fair-use argument for the inclusion of copyrighted content. I.e. is it materially relevant to Team Fortress 2 itself, and are we doing no harm by hosting it?
Throughout the history of the Wiki (going on more than a decade now! holy smokes I'm getting old), we've always acted in good faith and been careful to respect copyright and make fair use of content when its appropriate. In fact I'm quite proud to say that, as far as I am aware, we've never received any reports of copyright abuse or DMCA notices. Regardless, it is an ever-present risk, and thus requires careful consideration about whether it makes sense for us to host this such content.
Looping back in that question of inappropriate content, that same sentiment applies. The general age rating of the game is "mature", noting the inclusion of cartoony violence and mild language throughout. We'd need good reason to host any content that ventures beyond the general maturity levels of the game itself, especially in the "official" section of the site.
Listening to the clips above, I think they fall under that "need a good reason" point. If these clips are materially relevant to our documentation of the Mashed Mediocrity event, I'd let the language slide. But if they've just been uploaded so we have an archive of third-party content? I'm afraid that's not what the Wiki is for.
I don't know enough about this event and TF2 nowadays to weigh in on these questions myself, but I do hope this helps guide further discussions. I'm entirely trusting of this community, so I'm sure we'll come to the right decision :)
Thanks all! -RJ 16:29, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Show preview

Pictogram info.png Please make use of the Show preview button. It gives you a preview of the edit you are making, allowing you to perfect your changes before you save the page. You can edit the whole article by clicking the edit button at the top of the page, which is preferable to editing multiple sections consecutively. In short - please do one big edit instead of multiple smaller ones :D Killicon flaming huntsman.png VasyaTheWizard (talk) • (contributions) 07:51, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Starched Silliness Audio

Hi, please add the prefix Operation Starched Silliness to your audio files. Fat impendingdoom.mp3 -> Operation Starched Silliness Fat impendingdoom.mp3.

I personally don't think we actually need to store files from custom MvM missions, I see no use for them, but as long as you follow our Images guidelines it should be fine.

Thanks. — Tark lm(pt-br) 14:57, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

Please do this with every file that's specifically and only related to an operation (For example, File:Tf mad milk.png, now moved to File:Operation Digital Directive Tf mad milk.png).

Custom MVM Tour Mission Tables

Hey there - it's cool that you're still working on pages for community MVM missions, and I see you're probably looking to do some for the new Peculiar Pandemonium tour too. Just wanted to let you know, since you seem to have edited in a bunch of red links on the mission table, the ideal practice for custom mission pages is to create pages for all the missions to completion inside your userspace, and then move them all to the main space once they're all ready. That way, there won't be a bunch of red links in the table. After all, these pages can take quite a while to finish, and those red links might be sitting there for a while. -ThatHatGuy (talk) 14:41, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

This wiki still allow custom mvm missions to have their own page? Wealthy Diamond (talk) 11:45, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
It does, but they have to all be made on user space first before being moved to the main space. Taking a look at pages like Operation Canteen Crasher, both the Map and Mission pages are not all made. This was an event taking place in 2018-2019, which is almost 4 years ago. Other examples include Operation Digital Directive's map pages, Operation Madness vs Machines's maps pages, Operation Mashed Mediocrity's map pages, Operation Memes vs Machines pages, Operation Starched Silliness' map and some mission pages, and Operation Titanium Tank's map pages. These will likely never really be finished, so they'll have to all be finished or not have links.

Mvm mission template

Hi there,

When making mission tables, please ensure that everything is automatically translated or uses translation switching. Certain sections of the newly-created table used several different common strings to form a sentence rather than using translation switching.
GrampaSwood (talk) 15:50, 27 June 2023 (UTC)

Please do this on new and old templates ^^, {{Mvm mission backwood blockade}} has several untranslated strings that will not show up on non-English pages.

Adding icons to {{Robot icon}}

Hey Wealthy Diamond, In order to keep template size small (which matters when templates get reused many times), we are not adding new icons to {{Robot icon}} -- instead, please use the custom-icon parameter, like so:

{{Robot icon|custom-icon=File:Leaderboard_class_heavy_shotgun_infinite.png}}
Leaderboard class heavy shotgun infinite.png

Thank you Darkid « TalkContribs » 18:16, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for giving us an easy way to add custom robot icon. What about the existing custom robot icon in the template? Would they get deleted? Wealthy Diamond (talk) 13:37, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
I would suggest that these should be replaced over time to prevent the template from being clogged.
GrampaSwood (talk) 14:40, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
And one more thing, {{Robot loadout}} using icon based on {{Robot icon}}, so if you all delete all the custom icon in robot icon template, then custom icon on Robot loadout would not usable, is it possible to fix that? Wealthy Diamond (talk) 14:53, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
Oh, and custom robot icon on {{Robot icon}} can't turned into giant and crit icon. Wealthy Diamond (talk) 14:55, 30 June 2023 (UTC)

MvM missions question

Hey Wealthy Diamond, quick question:

Since you're more familiar with MVM missions than me, do you think it would be possible to automate these mission tables somehow? As far as I know, the information on how a mission works is stored in a pop file, right? Do you think it would be possible to parse this pop file and generate a table based on that?

(I'm not sure if that's what you're doing already, but if not, I think it could save us a lot of time if we could generate them automatically and then just clean up if needed.) — Tark 16:34, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
