The Saxxy is a melee weapon for all classes with limited availability. It is an Australium-plated statuette of Saxton Hale set into a small plinth.

This weapon acts identically to the default melee weapon of each class, sharing the same statistics and abilities. As such, Spies can perform backstabs and Engineers can upgrade their buildings. Its distinguishing feature, however, is that enemies killed by it will turn into motionless golden statues instead of ragdolls, similar to the Golden Wrench. This effect applies to jiggle bones which freeze in place.

* After eating a Buffalo Steak Sandvich, a Heavy is able to switch from the Saxxy to his primary weapon.

This article is about the all-class weapon. For other uses, see Saxxy (disambiguation).
What we can tell you is that all twenty of tonight's winners are going home with a handsome 100% Australium-plated Saxton Hale statuette, which'll look great on your virtual mantle, and even better buried waist-deep in the skull of one of your enemies, since it's also an in-game melee weapon.
Saxxy Awards publicity blurb

The Saxxy is a limited melee weapon for all classes. It is a 100% Australium-plated statuette of Saxton Hale set into a small plinth.

This weapon functions identically to the wielder's default melee weapon, but with an added cosmetic function: any enemies killed with it produce motionless statues of pure Australium, instead of the normal ragdolls. Any jiggle bones on enemy ragdolls are also frozen by this effect. In addition, a special sound effect unique to this weapon, the Golden Wrench, and the Golden Frying Pan is played upon killing any enemy. However, unlike the Spy's other melee weapons, the Saxxy does not have a unique raising animation to indicate an enemy can be backstabbed.

Upon killing an enemy as Engineer, unique voice lines play.

The Saxxy was awarded to winners of the Annual Saxxy Awards, a filmmaking contest hosted by Valve. Saxxys were bestowed upon all contributors in winning entries created by more than one player.

Bugs

  • Switching from the Saxxy to another stock weapon and back causes the Saxxy to retain the attributes of the stock weapon, even after changing classes.
  • After being killed, statue versions of models still move their mouths while finishing their death lines.
  • Player statues produced on kill are sometimes an icy gold color instead of the normal gold.
    • This bug is shared with both the Golden Frying Pan and Golden Wrench.

Trivia

  • As with the Golden Wrench and Golden Frying Pan, in the event a Saxxy is deleted by its owner, a message is broadcast in-game to all players.
    • The message is "[Player] has destroyed their Saxxy, awarded for [Category]!"
  • The overall design of the Saxxy is loosely based on statuettes for the "Academy Awards"; prestigious awards for artistic and technical merit in the film industry.
