The Conscientious Objector is a community-created melee weapon equippable by all classes with the exception of the Engineer and the Spy. It is an uprooted dilapidated road sign, featuring bloodstains and nails, with a slightly crooked angle to its frame.

This item functions identically to the wielder's default melee weapon.

The worn sheet of paper bearing the Team Fortress 2 logo nailed onto the front can be replaced with another image by using the Decal Tool.

The Conscientious Objector was contributed to the Steam Workshop under the name "Pummeling Picket".

Update history

October 13, 2011 Patch (Manniversary Update & Sale)

  • The Conscientious Objector was added to the game.

September 4, 2012 Patch

  • The Conscientious Objector now uses Kukri sounds

May 28, 2013 [Item schema update]

  • The Conscientious Objector is now craftable and usable in crafting.

Bugs

  • The Conscientious Objector may have the incorrect decal in client view if multiple people have a Conscientious Objector on the same server.
  • Some voice commands with animations, like "Move Up", will cause this weapon to float in the air.[1]
  • An applied decal may temporarily disappear. This can usually be fixed by restarting Team Fortress 2 a few times, or simply waiting it out.

Trivia

  • A Template:W is someone who refuses military service for ideological reasons.
  • The description of the weapon references "Template:W", a protest song by Template:W.
  • Originally, the creator had designed a specific decal melee weapon for each class, however, only the Conscientious Objector was added to the game.[2] The Conscientious Objector was going to be Demoman's version, using his sword animations.[3]
